In my decades working in production I will say he was kind, jovial, but most of all a true musician who never stopped working on his craft. The world has really never been the same without him in it and I was truly blessed to enjoy his music, personality and incredible spirit.
what an interesting, intricate person. humble to the core, even kinda nervous on camera and this is after playing 2,000 shows. its bitter sweet to see these interviews, the comment that the sorrow is still fresh is right on. almost 15 years as i right this......we all miss the hell outa him....i love him like a family memeber, thats the only way i can describe it....RIP Jerome John Garcia
THE MAN!!! Who is this chump talking to Jerry as if He was being interviewed and not Jer. HAHA lol. Jerry is the best guitar player of all time. His worst solo has more soul than most's best!
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Jerry was by far the most intelligent man this schmuck Bob Goen has ever interviewed. And he was just a genuinely down-to-earth guy for a rock star. Jerry was one in a million. RIP.
i think people who listen to the dead A LOT understand what jerry is talking about here- the flashes of grateness bit.. if you don't or are just a part-time fan you think he sounds like a total space cadet.
jerry was the antithesis of a rock star. he never wanted it, but it wanted him. Nobody in rock 'n roll can say that they were more kind than Jery. I miss that man. Merry Christmas to all!
Why is that douche telling Jerr where to sit? Then again when he sits on the bench and not the table. God i would have shot that guy if i were near by. You dont take an oppurtunity like talking to that man for 5 minutes and poke and prod around dumbass questions and tell him where to sit for cameras.
Jerry was a ball of fur held together with kindness and chemicals. Music history will hail him as a 20th century master who elevated Americana, pop and rock. He what many greats didn't by outliving the initial mass-market hype and evolving as a musician, not just settling into being an entertainer. From New New Minglewood to ... Slipknot!
my father told me when he was a deadhead, his deadhead friend's and him thought jerry would never die because he was too much of a fuzzy bear.but when he did they all took it pretty hard
These were some hot shows, literally & figuratively. I remember the venue spraying a mist from a hose to cool everyone down. Every time Jerry would belt out "So Many Roads" during the song, a streak of lightning would appear in the horizon behind the stage.
I agree with some here, the interviewer is a twit. I hate these mainstream media that try to jump on the bandwagons of the people. They dont really know.
Be nice... They mention in Part2, Jerry has six years to make it through the millenium. So I am guessing this was done in 1994! Great interview. Great post.
I still miss him - wish he would have taken himself as serious as playing guitar. I can't think of any other famous guy I miss more - Bill Hicks is high on the list.
Tthe interviewer is some plastic tool-talking head from some moronic news entertainment show...Bob Gruen or whatever. He knows nothing except what his producer told him to say. Jerry had a nice buzz going allowing him to tolerate the dweeb's level of twitness.
He was so intelligent, that despite the interviewers tough questions,he handles them with grace. This interviewer who trys to paint Garcia as having an unchallenging career obviously had no clue about Garcia the man and the artist. He had this great sense of committment to many many people. The part I felt that was really rude of the interviewer is when he puts Garcia on the spot about what he does the day of the show. Busy preparing to put on a show, and nice enough to give him an interview.
is the cameraman high?

Awesome how he continues to play air guitar notes with his hands while he talks..... Sometimes you see him play threads with his finger like at 4:57.
