  • Interesting footage & commentary.

    What a bonding experience.

You have the perfect narrator's voice.

Eight people, twenty-nine porters, cooks, table cloths? Far more posh & pampered than I expected.

  • Hey how weird...I am the 19,340th person to view this vid....the height of Kilimanjaro...spooky !

  • ill love to climb kilimanjaro

  • schnee am kilimanjaro . ich will diese legende noch selber sehen . der ruhige vortrag passt zu diesem stoischen berg

  • great video, well narrated. just the right info as im planing a trip there summer 2008.

  • Kilimanjaro is in Tanzania not Kenya!!

To this day some people still believe that Mt Kilimanjaro is in Kenya or atleast half of it. These experts go even further to assert that the views are better from the Kenyan side as if on the Tanzanian side there is skyscrapers obscuring the view.

If the Tanzanians do not wake up before you know it the Serengeti and Ngorongoro will also be in Kenya soon!!

  • Nice mini Documentary, I climbed "Killy" last year very hard as it was my first excursion to High Altitude, But getting to the top made it all worth while. Your route looks a lot harder that the route I took.

  • Hey Kurt,

    very good video.

  • Thanks Alexander! I'm having a great time hanging with you guys! We need to climb Kilimanajaro someday. Kurt

  • Hey Kurt,

It was great seeing you to. yeah we should definitely climb Kilimanajaro someday. Anyway I can't wait to see the finished video that you took while you were here. I hope to see you soon. Alexander

  • Awesome, thanks for sharing Kurt! (p.s. my mom went to high school with you) LOL

  • Moving video. I'm 15 years old, and I'm climbing Kili on September, I hope I can get to the summit, I know it's going to be a really hard task, specially for what I've heard the last day of climbing, the day you get to the summit. Congratulations for reaching Uhuru Peak :)

  • Good luck on your climb. You should be ok as long as you drink a lot of water and climb (as they say in Swahili) pole pole! Let me know how you did... Kurt

  • I'll let you know, thanks Kurt ;)

  • Did it =D I reached Uhuru Peak!, I'll post the photo later ;)

  • looks quite different.. when i did it in december the entire mountain was covered in snow-made it very difficult got bad altitude sickiness at the top

  • ill love to climb kilimanjaro

  • flipping gorgeous.

  • my brother is climbing kilimanjaro in like 2 weeks

  • The meaning of Kilimajaro.

According to oral history from grandparents in Chagga, Kilimanjaro = "Kelema" in Chagga means "difficult" + "kyaro" means "journey". When great grandparents went to their agricultural fields, they usually wouldn't be able to go beyond "kelema kyaro" area.

Kelema Kyaro = difficult to go beyond.

With pronounciation from foreigners, KelemaKyaro became Kilimanjaro and hence the name till today.

  • I climbed only as a day trip which was right out of the rain forest and back...what an amazing and surreal experience just that trek alone gave me...I was so scarred doing it but I did it...hoping one day to make it further and maybe to the summit! Nice Vid :)

  • OMG! I Love your Music! Your song Sundancing from The Dance album inspires me everytime i listen to it! Thank you!

  • Great video! Kiliminjaro is so beautiful. My cousins did the climb last year, and said it was the best trip of their life (And they sailed around the world for 2 years!) Someday, I'll get there...better get in shape first though. LOL Great Job!

  • Nice video. We better get to Kilimanjaro before the glacier completely disappears!

  • Yeah - it's a shame. I talked to an older safari guide from Kenya who said they had to wear crampons the last day or so climbing Kili in the '60s. It's a lot different today, unfortunately.

  • @kbestor Man this is cool! me and my friend plan on going in a year and the only we are woried about is AS (Altitude sickness) we hear it isn't the funnest thing to experience in the world... Do u have any like pointers or tips on how to avoid Altitude sickness?

  • Awesome climb! I've been a big fan of your music ever since someone gave me the CD Innovators. The variety of styles there really blew me away. Made several converts to your music, too. It's interesting to know where you get your inspirations from.

  • In respond to kurts comment. hes not just some guy on the internet trying to makesongs for movies. this guys amazing dvanmoll! HES DONE ALOT!

  • Awesome video. I'm about to climb the Kili in 2 weeks because we're shooting a documentary about the trip. Hope we all will make it to the summit!

  • You'll be fine. Just drink lots of water and go "pole pole." By the way - I make my living scoring movies. Let me know if you need any music. I have some Chugga music as well (which it the tribe that lives around the mountain.) Take care - Kurt
