In fact, it's long been a tradition amongst Jewish performers to make fun of Hitler. Seeing Hitler and his evil emotionally defeated by little old jazz music actually reveals the power and freedom in the music, and Hitler's inability to handle a free individual. Okay, I explained it as well as I could, but honestly, i
And yet, they know that the music is powerful and life changing. The humor is in hearing the world's most famous asshole basically fall apart at the thought of having to encounter jazz. also, this falls under the great tradition of making fun of Hitler as a way to make him weak. This has been done more than once successfully by Charlie Chaplin in "The Great Dictator" and Mel Brooks in "The Producers. Also Spike Jones song "Der Fuhrer's Face."
eolake asked me to explain what I've experienced that makes it so funny. This is hard to explain. explaining jokes always falls flat. Having said that, my answer as best as I can express it would be that, though most jazz players feel that they are artists at heart, they have often been treated like garbage, coming into gigs through the back door, so to speak, or being treated like servants, etc. t either makes you laugh or not. I loved it.
hitler never killed anyone directly. He didn't have much of a sense of humour as we know it either, which makes this even more funny - James appears to share this quality with adolf...
Also, though I hate to explain a joke, look at it this way: For jazz players, the act of improvising is the ultimate statement of freedom. Hitler was the ultimate debaser and represser of freedom. Seeing Hitler humiliated by freedom is uplifting. And by the way, the Nazis hated jazz and legislated against it. All the more satisfying to see Hilter's little world upset by jazz.
I'm a working pianist. Musicians get the joke. It's brilliant. Non musicians seem to not get it. It goes right by them. They haven't lived it so they don't get it. Kudos to the film maker.
I made this film thinking it would be funny, the last thing on my mind was or is to hurt another human. Thanks to everyone for their support towards me and for enjoying this piece of comedy, that's all it is, but I have had to suffer personal insults from james that defy description and have been removed from this comment page, just unbelievable stuff he has written to me..............peace and respect to you all and thanks again
I found it extremely funny. I was a working musician. Was because of an injury but I made my dough playing jazz. I laughed till I cried. Excellent work.
From today's NYT regarding these Hitler parodies posted by ignorant bitches:
"Isnt that the outcome that Adolf Hitler, the historical figure, sought? Didnt he see himself as the brute voice of the everyman unconscious?
How grim — how perplexing, how unsettling — that after more than 60 years of trying to cast and recast Hitler to make sense of him, we may have arrived at a version of Hitler that takes him exactly at his word."
Why not reply to the point made, instead of creating a straw man of victimization? These parodies all place Hitler right where he wanted to be, and there is something very objectionable about that. Anyone who finds this funny, musician 'working the circuit' or not, should check themselves. And maybe read a book.
Hilarious!!

Does everyone actually WANT to be a victim here? It matters not who's saying it, for musicians working the function circuit this is hilarious!

Any book in particular? I've read quite a few. Please define also how I should check myself.

Hitler where he wanted to be? Being made to look and sound like an imbecile? The butt of a silly joke about booking a jazz band?
Check out Mel Brooks and "The Producers".

This is still a fun jazz-joke, no matter if it's Hitler, Stalin or Bush in the video. So think about what you write, James.
