  • Bruce, thanks a bunch for posting these up. I started getting serious about canoeing two years ago and I've watched your videos for pointers and they've been quite helpful!

  • gtfo it ain't rocket science

  • Not too clear with the explain. he's also ruddering a bit. i guess so we can see better the technique. the j could be explained more simply i think, but the guy can paddle a boat, thats clear.

  • damn, this guy is a good paddler. It's harder than it looks folks.

  • Paddlin' the school canoe? You better believe that's a paddlin'

  • I want to buy a canoe. Do you guys know a good brand of canoe? Is there a website of different designs? (eg. ferrari for cars)

  • oh god that nissan add realy freaked me out :O

  • Thats the longest paddle i've ever seen

  • @Antonyfw my paddle is much longer

  • @OgGz1 Know anything about power transfer? I seem to remember anything over the shoulder whilst kneeling can reduce J-stroke power. Proved on an Ergo Machine contraption I believe.

  • ♥

  • i found this video in the first video link of a kanu (soccerplayer) link

  • @MrRulingtheworld football sucks thats why

  • 67 people are justin bieber fans

  • @Zelda123Zelda123 How do you kno? It looks like a Real canoe and it looks alot like its in the water. and why did u have to say it anyways? Nobody really cares about the boat in the water.

  • @Zelda123Zelda12 sure?? it looks pretty real to me

  • so...i herd you liek mudkipz.....WELL I LIKE GETSUGA TENSHOU

  • This video would be a lot better if the text didn't cover it the whole time...

  • fuck the J stroke. use the K stroke. this guy doesnt know how to canoe at all.

  • thats a boring video

  • good shit! Appreciate it. I am going to the Spreewald close to Berlin tomorrow :)

  • Are you racing that canoe? If not, why not use a more leisurely stroke (less zig-zag) and simply alternate sides of canoe on each (or every other) stroke? This should require only minimal course corrections on rarer occasions.

  • @stewartx5

1 sec ago Im guess he's not racing this canoe. Its important not to switch sides while padlling because in white water you dont want to be letting go of the paddle what-so-ever. The last thing you need to to is drop the paddle in rushing water while trying to switch paddle sides. Its also less efficient. If you can master the J stroke you wont "zig-zag" at all

  • probably the most useful video expert village has.

  • he has no legs

  • zonelll:

Have you ever paddled a true white-water canoe? They weren't designed for flat water. No keel, no prominent keel-line to help the canoe track and tracking. Flat water boats are designed for tracking. White-water boats are designed with a rounded bottom for maneuvering. You don't want tracking while dancing your way through a rock-garden.

Ergo,no matter how good you are there will always be a little zig-zagging when paddling a strictly white-water canoe on flat water.

  • I just watched the video again because I didn't see the end before. With all due respect, your J-stroke is very flawed. In fact, you are demonstrating how it should NOT be done. I mean no offense by that. Again, you should not zig-zag at all when you do a proper J-stroke regardless of whether you are using long or short strokes. In fact, I would find it difficult to get the zig-zagging you are getting. I think your problem is in your transition phase of the stroke. Best.

  • Actually, the J-stroke, when done properly, should never make you zig-zag even if you are doing long powerful strokes. In fact, none of the basic strokes should cause zig-zagging ever. If they are, something is wrong with your technique. A properly done J-stroke does not put you back on course. It never takes you off course! You should not have to use short strokes to go perfectly straight although short strokes can be more efficient depending on the circumstances.

  • were goin der in 2 weeks=) as a class yaya cant wait=)

  • thats a bad ass canoe

  • Wow nice Canoe. Could go whitewater in that!

  • This guy is a master

  • Love this guy! He has great explanations. Now if you could just put out a video on the canadian stroke (knifing j stroke) and sculling!

  • What the hell is he talking about at 1:14. I mean really, it has to be told that the paddle needs to be in the water? Wow.

  • Pretty good now we need video for a practical application of it.

HOW to do a Jstroke without spilling your beer, dropping your fishing pole in the water whilst throwing beads at that hottie on the river!

  • do you use the gunwale as a fulcrum for the pry at the end of the stroke

  • No, but, the warp coils overload above 102% reactor capacity, therefore you should disable external inertial dampners before engagement.

  • wow hostility.

    i just asked a question.

  • for such big words you roll over and play dumb really quick

  • wtf are you talking about your still not answering my question.

  • Only in emergencies...

  • eeek:

    Rude dude!

  • Excellent series................!

  • Very useful clip! Thanks.

  • Impressive but for me complecated! hahahaha.I will just paddle one side to the other to keep straight :)

  • I love this vid but why does how you hold it matter?

  • It makes all the difference in the world...

  • Thanks for the lesson.

  • It's awesome to watch a boat like that go straight. I'm always blaming my lack of control on the hull design, while you're proving I just need to be a better paddler.

  • I've done the same for years, and now I'm finally learning how to do it =D

  • For a different perspective (literally) on using the J, do a YouTube search on "ctcboater" and look for Solo Canoe Technique: Paddling in a straight line.

  • nice boat, what's the name/ type of the boat, I need something like that for tandem canoeing with my wife. Thanks in advance

  • That would be an Esquif Nitro, but it's a solo boat... the Esquif Blast is more or less this boat but extended for tandem use.

  • I don't know the model but I think it's made by Mohawk.

Unless you plan on doing tandem whitewater I'd get another boat, one meant for calmer waters. Otherwise you two will wind up with a lot of sore muscles just try to keep it tracking a stright line.

  • Thx .. n i love canoening .. heheh thx

  • Thank you, that's what I need

  • Thanks for the insight!

  • I wish I had a canoe, and a place to use it.

  • TOM GREEN LOOK AT ME

  • TOM GREEN COME PLAY DOTA ! <3 kilowarning

  • lol this video saved me from a HUGE rock thanks man! =D

  • thank you

  • nice boat
