  • You all realise that what Grapes does on air is Schtick, right? On the ice he was a hard nosed no nonsense player(ex-Canuck too). On camera he's a Canadian Redneck. Off camera he's a very shy, gentle and caring person. The tributes he gives our fallen soldiers come from the real Don.

  • those were such awesome days. he would bring the place to its feet regularly.

  • Don Cherry said in his book that Pavel was actually a fan of his and came onto the set of Coaches Corner to say Hi to Don. Grapes was actually a fan of Pavel as well (it was the Churla hit that made him a fan)

  • I miss you to Pavel, where ever you are

  • Grapes is kinda right - he was 0 in puls/minius, but I'd really like to see what he said about his sophomore season, puls 35 and 110 points (60 goals and 50 assists) :D

  • I would like to see Bure get more credit for being the best player ever to play the game. Well he is in the top two players with Lemieux for the best! Best Canuck ever!

  • Best cherry picker ever!

  • who's the sports commentator at 2:15 ???

  • Comment removed

  • The most talented player ever to play the game. What hurt him was the same thing that destroyed Bobby Orr's career. A bunch of idiots making peanuts who have been long since forgotten by fans took out his knees so he couldn't play. That would have never happened in the 1980s. Then again, Gary Bettman wasn't commissioner in the 1980s.

  • @surfer53 The ONLY positive thing about Bettman is he protects the game's stars... All about the money though, not because they're a joy to watch.

  • Lol. 1/2 his of his best goals are against the Jets! Man even though they sucked, we still loved them.

  • Don Cherry is a mouthpiece for the Conservative party here in Canada. We've suffered through many Saturday nights where we he talks about soldiers rather than what is happening on the ice during the games.

He is not a sportsman, his rise to fame in Canada is due due to the fact he was fortunate enough to have Bobby Orr on his team during the early 1970s.

Please do not judge all Canadians by the actions of this loud mouth,.

Have you ever seen him on skates?...8D...LOL.

  • @mkcgoalie35

so what? he mentions fuckin soldiers who die overseas? he should mention them. I'm a vancouver boy born and bred, and don was an ass regarding bure, but the soldier mentions isn't the reason why he was an ass.

  • @cotillion You're missing the point. The CBC(funded by the government) is giving Cherry airtime on a non-hockey issue. No other sports network in North America uses an analyst's time to comment of the deaths of their Armed Forces, Police or Firemen.

I'm glad you enjoy Cherry, it's a free country. I've switched to NHL Gamecenter Live they have great analysis on the games.

  • @mkcgoalie35

Sorry but you are missing the point. It is a free country, and Cherry should be commended for using a small portion of his time bringing attention to something that should be in the minds of every citizen of this country.

  • @mkcgoalie35 It's amazing to me that we're so hyperpolitical now that a man is judged based on his political views and not on content of character or his hockey discussion. If people knew Grapes' story, they'd understand what a great man he is. I disagree with him politically (I'm a libertarian), but unlike some people, I can look beyond our political disagreements to enjoy a really entertaining man who has a passion for what he does.

  • Oh my god a country tribute song to a Russian hockey player, its so 90's I cant take it! YES!

  • Bure Bure! Who writes a song like that!?

  • cherry is so biased its not even funny

  • Watching this video makes me miss two things - Pavel Bure, and cheesy Canadian production from the 80s and early 90s.

  • Man im so happy that youtube is around so I can watch these great videos..oh the memories :) Pavel Bure was one of my favorite players growing up (him and Lemieux).

  • don cherry is a dumbass, the only awesome thing about him is his suits

  • looks like kid from 1st home alone

  • don cherry your 15 minutes of fame expired in 1979

  • im sure pavel was dishing what he received lol...

  • don cherry always has these stupid opinions, ignore him, he should retire now, doesnt understand the modern game and spends half coaches corner talking about troops in afghan

  • @sivaband whats wrong about cherry talkin about the troops in afghan man ?

  • @blackmoore24 because hes supposed to be talking about the games that night. i fhe mentiones the troops, then fair enouf, but he spends almost half of coaches corner talking about them. and bobby orr. get with the times donny.

  • Even though he left Vancouver, he was THE first Canuck superstar out there that entertained the crowd and they didn't call him the Russian Rocket for nothing. The caliber he brings out as a goal scorer is mind-blowing and had he been heathy and still playing, he could shatter some real good records.

I'm hoping for the Canucks' 40th anniversary, he would be one of the selected inductees as a shoe in for the Ring of Honour since he has done so much for us, especially the 94 finals.

  • Oh Don Cherry, you prejudice old fart.

  • the canucks fucked pavel over so badly he refused to play for them any more

and they still haven't won the cup

    can you spell losers

  • @lowaces Explain just how this happened. I am interested. Plese don't repeat the crap printed by Gilchrist and Gallagher. Tony is the worst sports writer in the business

  • @sparwood8 about pavel bure-- there is a RARE book about him called something like the mystery of the russian rocket, and it goes into great detail about a lot of things during pavels time in vancouver-- i read it in 2000 -- its a good book-- but they fucked him over--

    hope that helps

  • @lowaces I will seek it out. Is it in the Vancouver Library? Did he author it himself? I also do believe you and that he was stepped on by eg: Brian Burke. I remember when he first arrived in North America. He was in California. Only one Canucks staffer saw him in that 6 months time. Pretty cold if you ask me. I am also of the opinion that Messier had a hand in this. I don't like him and think he is sleazy. So wh is the author?

  • I miss Pavel and the Jets :(

  • I miss Pavel and the Jets :(

  • Yeah, and all don's 'buddies' are playin glike choir boys

  • In one of his books Don Cherry talks about one of the Bruin players who used to use his stick a lot on people. Cherry tried to get him to stop but the guy told him that he needed the stick sometimes because it was an "equalizer". Bure took that guy down by kicking the skate out from under him. He didn't knee him or spear him or hurt him. Kicking the skate from behind is a lot better than other things they do in the NHL.

Bure was great. One of the most explosive players ever in the NHL.

  • @ironpirites If you have ever played hockey you would know that a slough foot, or 'kicking the skate out from under him' as you so adequately put it, is one of the most dangerous plays in hockey and probably one of the cheapest and dirtiest. To be the great mediator all I have to say is that Bure was great, but cheap. Cherry is stubborn, but right... in this instance.

  • @DylanTownesDrake I have played hockey. We'll just have to agree to disagree on this. People can be hurt in any number of ways playing on skates, but I don't think that manouever is especially dangerous. I've had the skates kicked out from under me many times, mostly by accident, on the ice. I'm not saying one couldn't be hurt that way, but nine times out of ten one wouldn't be, if the intent was simply to unbalance an opponent.

  • @ironpirites i dont think slough footing is that dangerous of a play either but the only concussion i have recieved in hockey was from a slough foot.. although concussions as serious as they are, are not that serious

  • @DylanTownesDrake and Dallas Drake, Dale Hunter, Gilmour et al are angels. Right? Far more dangerous is head first into the boards, and that is something I saw those three guys do.

  • @sparwood8 I don't recall mentioning any of those people in my comment, I'm pretty sure all I said is that a slough foot is "ONE of the most dangerous plays in hockey". Hitting someone head first into the the boards is more dangerous, I'll agree to that no problem. My point is that a slough foot is almost never accidental and always dangerous. You can hit someone into the boards head first when going in for a clean check and having them turn on you, makes it accidental, occasionally.

  • @ironpirites Grapes said in his book that Pavel because he slew-footed Cam Neely and that's the reason Don called Pavel a weasle but he also stated that he had a different opinion about him after he elbowed Shane Churla in the 94 playoffs, Don actually liked Pavel after that hit.

  • Cherry calls it like it is!

    that's what critics do!

Pavel because he was small was a pussy.. there were a number of times he pulled some dirty shity... But That's Hockey!

  • THE LEGEND

  • i cant belive bure beat lidstrom to the calder trophy!!

btw don cherry sucks...how can u hate on great guys like ovie and bure

  • all don cherry does is rip the russians and swedish peoples.

  • Cry about it.

  • i miss you pavel

  • what a lame ass song... shoulda been deathmetal

  • Don cherry is an idiot! You north americans must know it too. I mean, he always talks shit about the russians. grow up don cherry!

  • when you are forced to listen him to consantly, you learn that he's an idiot, but sometimes makes really good points. But mostly yes he's an idiot. He hates russians, and he hates the Canucks, and loves Toronto and Detroit. Once you know all that, you ignore everything he says about all thiose teams, and just listen to other stuff. Its Don Cherry. Take it for what its worth. haha

  • In the 1979 playoffs, up a goal with 2 minutes left he put too many men on the ice and lost them the series. I don't even know why people here in Canada watch him, Ron Maclean's so much better.

  • ....... youre an idiot

  • @capsfan7 Yeah but without Grapes coach's corner.. CBC rating on HNIC plummett

  • @capsfan7 I could not agree more. Also what number did Bure use most of the time?

  • @capsfan7 Here's what: check out the 'grief record' between Russians and their respective team managers. Then do the same for guys from the WHL, CHL, and the OHL. See who has the best track record. HUGE difference. Russians have greedy managers and are greedy and selfish themselves. Half of them are piss tanks

  • @capsfan7 Holy crap ! A Canadian that hates Cherry too ! SWEET !

  • @capsfan7 Don Cherry is just your typical older die hard Canadian hockey fan. He reminds me of how my grampa used to be (even though he hated Don)... Critical about Europeans stemming from the 60s and 70s... He is just outspoken about it, but he has tamed 'er down a bit.

  • @capsfan7 Don Cherry's the man. Not everything he says is correct, like the rest of us, but he's awesome and the league would be better off if he ran it instead of Betman.

  • @tjcurrie Actually I've started to like Don, even though he talks a lot of crap. I'm swedish and a caps fan so when I'm sitting up al night watching the caps play, it's really funny to switch game in the intermission to hockey night in canada and listen to cherry:P

  • @capsfan7 Hes definitely entertaining. But he also knows the game the way its meant to be played.

  • @capsfan7 we do, trust us lol

  • @capsfan7

Yes he hates Europeans. Its a given. However he is a little more liking of them today as he was back then. (maybe because CBC gave him shit lol)

  • @capsfan7 Don Cherry is 70 something and I think he's done his growing up.....I agree with you though....even though I am a canadian, Cherry has this bias with Canadian players........He takes cheap shots at russians for no legitimate reason.....Bure, Ovechkin and i can go on and on.........CHERRY IS A TOOL.....you don't take him seriously, you just laugh at him!!

  • @capsfan7 he is an arrogant SOB...but he knows hockey like no other

  • @capsfan7 ... capsfan. figures... yer an idiot.

  • @capsfan7 Totally agree, hes just rude in general. I never really relate or like what he says.

  • hes soo cute when he talks =P

  • his song is vey very very....musical

  • Wood and composite both have disadvantages, i prefer my sticks a little stiffer and i find that composites snap easier, but wood sticks get soft and lose their snap pretty quick. i need a composite every 30 or so games, and a new wood one every 10-15 gams

  • it is also alot harder to find decent wood now a days so they have alot cheaper wood sticks, just to throw my 2 cents in.

  • haha i remember that hit a 5:14. I dont think it deserves bein called a weasel though

  • i like how he stood up and started walking towards the stage even before they announced his name for the Calder.

    cocky bastard haha.

  • what car is it at like 3:30 lol

  • Hard to tell but to me it looks like an Eagle Talon Turbo.

  • yeah it does. or a dodge stealth

  • i like that second bure song

  • does it have a name like where can i find it

  • i got to know bure two weeks ago and he is already my all-time favorite...

  • I loved bure and i will never blame him for leaving Vancouver or Canada Because of the joke media and all the FAGS in vancouver that did everything to Run him out of town. Don Cherry ripped BURE and today he rips the best player in the game Ovechkin for......Hitting people. Fuck the Media in Canada bunch of low class fags who cost the canucks a CUP in the 90's.

  • yup. I hate to admit it but I like Ovechkin a lot more than Crosby :P After the hat trick duel where Pittsburgh lost Crosby said something whiny about how it's bad news when a guy from the other team scores three. Bure made a few cheap shots but you can't say that about Ovo, he's a rock 'em sock 'em player.

  • I wish he played today, honestly i wold do anything to watch him play another game with the canucks

  • fuck i miss bure. I wish he played one more season with the Canucks with Sundin, and the sedins... it would be a treat!

  • i think bure is better than ovechkin. Maybe not. its close, but bures numbers were soo damn consistent no matter where he played and no matter what his condition. Even his last season he was putting up amazing numbers and he was ridden with knee problems. If he never had knee problems he could be up there with gretzky.

  • lol i think its just the sync of the video

if you look at the ppl behind bure, they were clapping even before the announcement was made

Even so, Bure was always full of confidence, I cant decide if Ovechkin is better or Bure lol

  • bure. he played in a tougher era. if he played now with the game more centered around offense shit he would probably get around 65 goals a year.

  • He would but Ovechkin would get 80 in the early 90s. If Hull hit 86 and Selanne and Mogilny got 76 then it wasn't a tougher era for goal scoring at all. 65 in today's game is simply jaw-dropping. Since 1996, only one other person has scored more goals in a season than Ovechkin this year and last and it's Bure (58 in 99-00 and 59 in 00-01 while missing games too both times).

  • hahaha buddy ovechkin has better training. better equipment. please dont start this bullshit that ovechkin would get 80. i can tear that apart quickly so just end it.

  • In that case, a guy like Hull today in his prime would not even score 70 because of that. Nobody can put up 80 today, not even Bure. I was just saying that if Hull, Gretzky and Lemieux could all top 80, Ovechkin could come close to that mark i wide open, high scoring 80s hockey. A lot of snipers today would be getting 50 if the games were as freewheeling.

  • yea but ovechkin has better training and actually trains for that matter and has better equipment.

its like saying that guys back then for a fact wouldnt dominate. im pretty sure if ovechkin was in the shape he is in now and had the same compo sticks as now he would dominate but those guys then had shit equipment to todays standards and barely trained see what i mean?

you put those guys in todays game with the same training they would still dominate like they did then. just not as much.

  • Well yes I agree then. If Bobby Orr had today's training and equipment, not only would he still dominate, he'd also have the medical technology to keep playing instead of retire at age 31. Yet he also wouldn't average 35 goals, 120 pts. every year either (maybe 30-70-100 though, which is still incredible).

  • i think he might stay near the 35 goal mark and 120 pts since he was basically the whole team and was like a 4th forward.

  • Barely trained? What the fuck are you talking about? You're making the NHL in the 80's sound like a beer-league pickup game. It wasn't 100 years ago. Workouts existed, you know. Mark Messier in his prime was one of the most strong and cut players to ever play. He worked out like a fucking bodybuilder. Bure himself was built almost the same as Ovechkin. Wood sticks are actually better for shots and don't break nearly as much. Defense and goalies sucked back then, not the workouts.

  • Dude SOME PLAYERS trained you dumb fuck. They did not train like they did today. Wood sticks are not better if they were more people would use them.

Goalies then were hit or miss. Defense was harder to get around since they could grab you as well as hit.

    So want to continue?

Go listen to Gordie Howe they never lifted weights in his day. Tony Espositao, We trained the last week of our break.

    you moron.

  • Well, "dumb fuck", last time I checked, we were talking about the 80's-90's, not the days of Gordie and Tony O. Fucking idiot.

And you are basing the quality of a stick on the popularity of it today? So you're a follower. Just because the pro's use $200 composite sticks that break when you receive a pass, they are better? Al MacInnis shot over 100 with a wood stick and scored over 100 points. He barely broke a stick.

  • It's marketing

  • What is?

  • How manufacturing are pushing prices like 200bills with the claim of better performance or what not while a 40dollar wooden stick would do.

    It's marketing

  • Oh yeah exactly.

I can't believe people fall for it, even after they save up for 3 months to buy a new stick and then it breaks on a backhander after 3 games.

That's why I buy Sherwood 5030's in bulk. I can get 4 for like 60 bucks. Not a single one has broke.

  • you need to actually play in a game and be able to lift the puck off the ground and bend the stick to break it.

you are such a moron. 5030's are a great stick but they break way to easily.

    stop bullshitting bro.

  • What the fuck are you talking about? I have played in a game and broke a stick. I got a one95 and i took a backhander and it cracked. The next pass I received broke the stick.

And I've had many 5030's and ZERO of them have actually broken in a game. I've only grew out of them or they became too whippy.

  • Yea bullshit bro.

    The One95 sucks complete ass.

Woods break just as easily .

  • Woods break as easily?

I think you better go back to science class. They are not hollow, therefore, are more dense. Which means they take a lot more to break than a hollow stick made of cheap carbon fiber.

  • they break easier bro. plain and simple. the blades break about 10 times more easy then a composite blade. you want to continue to argue? i do not need to go back to science class (horrible chirp btw) i have used wood sticks alot bro. I played Major Juniors used wood in practice and have fucked them up more then composites.

just because you do not have the strength to break one in house league do not try to say they are better because you have NEVER broke one.

  • You like to use the word bro a lot, eh?

Well, bro, just because you think they break easier doesn't mean they actually do, bro. Bro, many tests have been done comparing the strength. Woods don't break NEARLY as much, bro. Composites are not truly one-piece. They are fused at wherever the kickpoint is. This alone makes them very flimsy. Either you take slapshots all game, or are a fatass who uses junior sticks, bro. Oh, and bro, for the record, I play juniors. Junior Pirates. Next year, Boston U

  • Whats your name then buddy? Yea I'm not fat buddy. I'd run your show and fuck you up. I do know they are fused bud. Personally I like two pieces the best.

btw junior Pirates does not really mean a thing. What league NAHL? Congrats on saying you are going to BU. Means nothing to me.

  • Don't really know where you ended up with this debate, but i think its just common sense that wooden sticks break more easily than composite. I mean, no offence, or actually yeah offensively i have to say that the one of you who said wood overlasts composite is a fucking tool :D

  • I did not say that. I said they break easier.

  • So I guess the 10+ composite sticks a game that break every single game don't really count?

And yeah, I bet you make a real convincing argument, saying that it's "common sense" that wood breaks easier than hollow carbon fiber and that people who disagree (they are correct by the way) are "fucking tools".

You're not that smart of a guy, huh?

  • Actually no...they dont.....Composite sticks do break easier than wood sticks. To elaborate on that High end composite sticks break easier than lower end composite sticks.....hence a 30 day warranty on composites. edumacate yourself before you slam someone.

  • Actually wooden sticks won't totally fail or get all broken so they can no longer be used legally. They will break small piece by small piece from the inside first. This means the stick can be used to shoot, pass and everythign as normal, but it won't react properly and will affect your shots.

In this sense, carbon fiber and composite sticks last longer as it takes more shots for them to affect your game. But, you may play with a broken wooden stick without anyone to know.

  • It may happen the same with composite, but the higher resistance to impact and the engeneering behind it makes them more likely to fail totally rather than partially like wooden sticks.

    They break differently.

  • congrats on playing in the AJHL. Any plug can play in there.

  • I was going to play in the Q, and then broke my femur in a game. It took about a year to rehab and heal, and then I went to the Junior Pirates for a rehab season. I have a full scholarship to BU. Have you ever broken your femur, or anything else major like that? Probably not. Where have you played?

  • I played in the O. Wow dude the Q really a tough league.......... only pussies play there bro.

I played in Sarina, Kitchener, and Belleville.

  • I'm not disagreeing that wood sticks are a little more durable I use a 5030 with a coffey curve myself. But calling Mash fat when he is in amazing shape is just retarded.

Composite sticks are better more durable wood.

  • Who is mash?

  • Mash is Brandon Mashinter the person you are going back and forth with.

  • Most hockey players from that area came from farming families, working on a farm makes u BEEFCAKE! :)

  • why did bure leave vancouver?

  • his ego,

  • it was their head coach at the time, Mike Keenan. Keenan was a fucking prick anyway, Trevor Linden never forgave Mike was trading him

  • lmao at his sweater

  • Get your facts straight there buddrive, Bure was a 6th Rounder to the Canucks in the 1989 draft and was taken the year he became draft eligible. And yes he should definitely be a hall of famer.

  • True: Pavel Bure was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in round 6 as #113 overall in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft.

  • He was a 4th rounder because no one thought he was eligible for the draft. He also does not belong in the hall of fame. There are guys who never will make the hall of fame that deserve to be there more than him... he does deserve an honorable mention however.

  • did not have the longevity. Was fast and nifty but did not have the intelligence and skill like 99, 66, and Larionov

  • suck a dick

  • bure should be a hall of famer, considering he lost a few seasons due to injury, easily in the top 3 of most electrifying players ever to play in the sport

  • And who are others two?

  • to think he was a 4th rounder... LOL

  • 6th Rounder.

  • wtf devils should have got him lol

  • Laffs

  • Well at that time it was a high risk to draft soviet players because it was hard for them to get out of the soviet union. Fedorov, Mogilny, Bure, Kamensky, etc... were all late picks.

  • No one thought he was eligible for the draft or else he would've been gone in the top 10 and since 6th round picks are usually a waste Pat Quinn took a chance and drafted him.

  • boy was he smart =/

  • He should be in the hall of fame, and have his # retired by the Canucks. He's the best and most talented player we have ever had.

  • Comment removed

  • @perfectofc Yeah. Why did he demand a trade from the team that brung him to the NHL??

  • @perfectofc You can have the next pavel. I will tak ethe next Cam Neely

  • as a die hard nucklehead ,

i had to wear the golden "Vee" ugly pajams outfit

and the black "Vees" were called the Halloween unis

because this jersey had some success, it's held in higher regard

than mere appearance value would merit

  • not the jersey. the sweater pavel is wearing as he's getting out of his fancy car

  • I wish they wouldn't have got rid of the old uni's. I liked the ones from the early 90's the best with the Orange,Black and yellow with the Skate that said Canucks..

The new one with the Whale is weak compared to that, I had the Old School White Bure jersey and I still have it framed on my wall

  • I completely disagree, I want to see those sweaters return

  • Lol it was awesome when Bure stood up before he was announced winner of the Calder. Most exciting and best Russian player ever.

  • cherry hates anyone that not canadian

  • except for crosby haha hes a little bitch

  • Pavel Buureeee, the man can shoot the puck

    Vancouver's number 1 rookieee

    Common lets go Canucks

    Bure burreeeee, bure buree

    bure bure

  • Cherry hates anyone who isnt Canadian. Hes just an idiot with a big mouth. He hates the way Detroit plays the game. He thinks trap, dump and chase hockey is more entertaining. What a moron crappy teams play dump and chase hockey.

  • he hates on french canadians too

  • i couldn't have said it better myself :)

  • How i miss going to see bure beat up my Jets in winnipeg!

  • pavel bure-the best/greatest russian hockey player of all time.

  • Fuck - has anybody skated that fast that he did against the Winnepeg in his first NHL game ever? When he for the first time enter the ice and go end to end...there is anohter clip here at Youtube where you can see the whole clip - listen to what Cliff Ronning says lol. We miss you Pavel - you would put Ovechking and Crosby in the shadow if you was playing in the NHL today. The fastest and most explosive player ever to play hockey.

  • oh my God, that first song was hilarious but the second one really took the cake! Ahhhaahaha aaahahhahaha Bu-re Bu-re Bu-re wooh!!

  • By far the best offensive player ever to play hockey. And the coolest to watch. Very handsome to. To bad he had to stop playing because of his knee injury. I wonder how big he would have been today with all people having acess to internett - youtube --he would have been like a big big hollywood star. Thanks Pavel for all you gave us

  • I like how Bure was gettin up even before his name was announced for the Calder

  • somewhat wrong there. He lit it up in Flordia my friend.

  • whats the name of the song ?

  • god fuck that sensless bitch named Don Cherry that fucking pussy should get his head out of his ass and learn real hockey.

  • amen

  • I love Bure hes my fav hockey player of all time and Cherry I also happen to enjoy but I think he is out of line he was just jealous of Bures talent level.

  • don cherry is nothing but a canuck hater, that fucking old faggot is junk

  • Don Cherry was always known for hating European hockey players

  • Don cherry hates everything that does'nt speak english, see how retarded he is

  • Don Cherry is irrelevant !

  • fuck cherry he brings up pavel bure had a minus season but doesnt bring up the fact that so did joe sakic in the beginning and many others
