  • I didn't appreciate this song until I woke up one day and found out I was old.

  • Bravo! What a beautiful translation and interpretation of my favorite Grand Poet Jacques Brel. Thank you for sharing!

  • Makes me feel old. But I'm always complaining.....

  • The first half of the song is a very very good adaptation of the original Brel's song - the second part which is beautiful too, take some distance with the Brel's words that are may be more cruel and sad. Anyway, it's a pleasure to read a translation that respect the Brel's spirit.

  • This is the the English adaptation of Les Vieux by Jacques Brel from the Broadway and off-Broadway play "Jacques Brel is Alive and Living in Paris" by Mort Shuman and Eric Blau from 1968. It was one of the more faithful adaptations. To hear the Brel perform the original of this, search YouTube for "Jacques Brel Les Vieux" and add "French and English subtitles' if you need them.

  • jammer dat het niet in het Afrikaans is

  • I love this song, but it is truly the saddest song I've ever heard.

  • Thank you for posting this song. It reminds me of my mother.

  • I didn't think much of the lyrics at age 23, but now I'm 60 the words are sadly prophetic. Hug the ones you love today.

  • laurika heeft wel zo'n mooie stem, ze raakt ons elke keer weer diep in ons hart, geweldig. Astrid en Kees

  • Just so beautiful

  • That is simply brilliant

  • I think this must be my very favourite interpretation of a beautiful and moving song. It is beautiful. Thankyou so much for posting.

  • Brilliant and poignant. Thank you for posting. This recording and the artist is very true to (Jacques)Brel's original intent. Powerful stuff.

  • Laat my sodink aan die tyd toe ek in die oue te huis gewerk het, hulle gesiggies so hartseer maar met soveel trots...hulle gedagtes altyd verlore in dae wat veby is....

  • I am trying to find a song that I think Laurika sang, some of the lyrics from it are.....my oom se motor is n ou masjien, hy maak dit vol met dieseline........en seen my ma en seen my pa en my oom op sy plaas in Afrika. If anyone could help tell me the song is I would be grateful.

  • You are thinking of "Stuur groete aan Mannetjies Roux". I have it... I'll try to put it up for you. Watch this space :)

  • @Tintalasia

The words spoke to me. My parents are spending much of their time sitting in a chair, looking out a window. their bodies feel like lead. They were once known to sing and play on Sundays, at churches and rest homes. So much of this song fits. It made me cry. Thank you for posting it.

  • I am heading in that age direction, good lord, I hope I don't have this song on my mind when I get old, how morbid, but sooooooo true.

  • This is so sad, but unfortunately true about sooooo many elderly people.....

  • I have included in the response videos on this one

  • is er ook een video van Moenie weggaan nie?

  • I don't have that one, sorry. Jammer... ek het dit nie.

  • dis so mooi en diep sentimenteel...albei my ouers verloor...mis hulle baie maar God gee my krag..

  • Laurika come to Holland this what they want please love..... Henry Greenway

  • I wish she would come to Brazil too, but there are few here who will listen to her and understand her. Dankie vir die kommentaar!

  • Kom naar Holland this is what they want Laurika please ...... Henry Greenway

  • Its on youtube with english subtiles just type (Jacques Brel Les vieux) I assume that Laurika has something with Jacques Brel as she sings a number of his songs. There used to be a theatre in Jo'burg that used to host musicians that sang his songs.. I think it was called "Tuschlicks". Nonetheless Laurika is an excellent singer... you wouln't happen to have her"Stuur groete aan Manetjies roux" to post?? Cheers

  • That is interesting. I don't know Jhb well enough. I'm from the eastern Cape. I'll look up the song later. I do have "Stuur groete aan Manetjies Roux". Perhaps I'll put it up sometime today if I get a moment.

  • A very good version but I will say that the original french Jacques Brel version is better

  • I will look for that version, but seeing as I don't speak or understand French, I'll stick to the very well sung English version :)

  • Makes u think doesnt it!

Enjoy life while and until u can, u as old as u feel!

I`m 34 and feel like a teenager still!

    :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

    Good meditation!

  • Great song! Talking to your soul. Well done Laurika.

laat dink my aan my eie ouers.
