@theatreofpain270 if you get a chance listen to oldies 98.1. it is a philly based station that still plays this song and genre. only the hits from the 50's 60's 70's and a little bit of the 80's. I know you can listen online. So don't jump the gun about how fm sucks. Philadelphia still has plenty of good stations
I was probably 2 when I first heard this song (16 years ago) and I've not heard it for a while, but it brings a lot back.... one of the best singles of the 20th century.
The SECOND I hear that certain style of old keyboards, Wurlitzer I think, that WAS that seventie's sound I'm hooked. Those old electric pianos create SUCH a great groove.
Hmm! I am 61 now, but remembered my 65 Blue VW and use to hear this song on AM/FM in LA..1975 that was a good time to live in LA, or Southern Cal back then..many nice memories..Thanks for the song.
Weird, when my brother and I were 6 years old we really thought "Ace" Frehley sang this tune! I was really disappointed when I got his solo album and this song wasn't on there... :) That's when we found out it was the band "ACE".
@TheJackie2112 He didn't do this song. It was a group named "Ace". Lead singer is Paul Carrack who also sang lead on "Tempted" with Squeeze and "Silent Running" and "The Living Years" with Mike and the Mechanics to name a couple of his projects.
I can't help to think way back when, when this song first came out, AM radio was a big deal for Rock..Now! What's AM? or for that matter even FM..times do change!
Ace were a British rock music band, who enjoyed moderate success in the 1970s. They are notable for their part in the early career of Paul Carrack, who later became famous as a solo artist, and as a member of several other groups. Ace are best known for their hit single, "How Long?" which was a UK top-20 single in 1974 and a US top-5 in 1975.
Probably my favorite dance song back when it came out dancing at the Dome in Kent Ohio to LIVE music. ACE was really a one hit wonder with this awesome big hit. Then dancin to it again at Bucknell in Lewisburg PA... a local band would play it.
Probably my favorite dance song back when it came out dancing at the Dome in Kent Ohio to LIVE music. ACE was really a one hit wonder with this awesome big hit.
@bullshipus123 it says in the description that he knows its not the same ace as in kiss.. why don't you issue a comment apologizing to the poster of the video and apologize for calling him a dumbass.. ya dipshit.
Reading through the comments, we never learn why Mikedeviant decided to headline his post with a picture of Paul Daniel "Ace" Frehley, formerly with KISS, while we listen to the clean, simple haunting voice of Paul Carrack sing "How Long?".
For those wanting to know more about "How Long?" and the attractive voice of its recording artist as I did 2 months ago, you can save yourself the confusion it's caused so many others.
@Netspin1 really? cause in the description this is what i see from the poster of this video.. maybe it was not there when you viewed the video? but he has this posted...
I know that Ace isn't Ace Frehley, but I used to think they were the same thing in elementary school. So the pic stays.
Yes, It's about the bass player playing with another band on the sneak. When he tells Ace, they ask him 'How long has this been going on?'. The payback is that they get another bass player, then come up with this cool bass riff and have a hit without him.
It's just that KISS is so bad, and this song is so good! I mean KISS is really bad, I'm talking very bad, like painfully bad, like so bad they had to put they're makeup back on because their only draw was the circus that is they're act, not the playing. Why else did they tank when trying to go legit (very loose analogy)?
@dartheric I know the truth hurts, but you must face the truth KISS are clowns, though I do enjoy Gene Simmons "Family Jewels" show. It's not reality, but still some what intertaining.
@jcfan42 God, I love ACE! ACE in the 70's and me being in kindergarden in 1979 and me wanting to be Ace...and this song playing in the background as well. Ace is great, Ace I love ya...and this song is timeless....Yea...Ace and the other Ace rock!
@ImNotYourFriend212 This is actually not a song about infidelity. Its a song about a band breaking up. Sounds plaintive and melancholy enough, but its not about love. Its about a business relationship falling apart.
ACE was a britisch group around the genius Paul Carrack, this song was a number one song in the US, but not in the UK. It is one of the all time classics and one of my favourite songs. Great.......
i like ace - and I like kiss - its just a picture anyway - why get so worked up! we know ACE ( paul Carrick) was a lead singer for the MOR rock band from the 70s.
Cathy, my beautiful rose the enduring, everlasting love of my life , where have you gone? A world now gone forever which only exists in my heart and memories, a world in which we never grow old or apart. You will always be young and beautiful and I shall love you forever, my love shall never die. Even after I am gone my love will transcend all of time and being and shall remain always although silent and invisible, as is love itself, silent and invisible.
"How Long" — a song about Terry "Tex" Comer leaving the band briefly to play with the Sutherland Brothers and Quiver, and his subsequent return — was released as the first single. Most listeners interpreted the song as an ode to a crumbling love affair.
