  • You're a national treasure Gord :)

  • anyone else feel like the hip are you friends?

  • Seems to really be tripping, what's he high on?

  • @coughlig

    Probably music...just a guess.

  • @MrPoopMeister i love u mrpoopmeister i talk about you at school 24/7 my freinds love your vids pleas make more

  • seems like gord was even stranger back then

  • I instantly thought the same thing in regards to the sheldon cooper comment! haha. how bizarre.

  • Whenever I am forced to listen to Nickelback, I think of how we, Canada, actually produced one of the coolest bands of all time, the Hip

  • three people were not armed with grace

  • gord says nothing by mistake. its his own free-form art. nobody can do it like gord.

  • @clavin747 jim morrison

  • My favourite part of this song is the solo at the end and this version is such a disappointment. That being said, it is great to see the Hip playing such a legendary venue.

  • CANADA!!!!!!!!!!

  • Keep on rockin' Gord!!!

  • Gord's the fucking man.

  • Sheldon, yes!

  • IIIIIIIIIII come from downtown!

  • DOWNIE IS THE MAN KEEP ROCKING IN THE FREE WORLD!!!!

  • This is where my daughter got her middle name.

  • I miss the 90's

  • I still get goose bumps when I hear the opening to this song

  • Gord with hair.

  • LOVE The HIP!! Even though I am a Yank, ha! Great performance, thanks for sharing it.

  • great band, love the bass player

  • There's something about this song, that when I listen to it I think about how proud I am to be Canadian.

  • Great version, always been my favorite Hip song.

  • fuck gord is awesome

  • Just under 60,000 views?

    Oh, if 'they,' just knew.

    Peace.

  • best canadian band still performing and making music. gotta love young gord haha

  • hip rules f yea !!!!!!!

  • Here's some cool info for Hip fans, Gords god father is the former president of the Boston Bruins Harry Sindin! I thought that was pretty cool when I found that out!!

  • Gord's like a Michael Stipe you don't want to beat the crap out of.

  • @platypusrex exactly! =)

  • @platypusrex No more like David Byrne,

  • Goota Love that CANADA shirt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • his many hand gestures make the song much more enjoyable than it already is.

  • I found it weird that Dan mentioned he was from Kingston when He's actually from Ottawa

  • @TAG037 he was born in ottawa and grew up there but he lives in kingston

  • @TAG037 same shit diffent pile

  • All I can say is that I saw the Hip (first of dozens) in 1985 at the Horseshoe in TO and man, Gord was never going to leave my life after that experience I can assure you.

  • And speaking of Canadiana, Gord's got a Gretzky tuck goin at 3:33.

  • Its not Gord Sinclair you moron. Its Gord Downie. And in this form he has hair

  • @MattyKB Gord Downie is the singer. Gord Sinclair is the bassist to whom NattiveBoy referes at 2:26.

  • Kirk Muller reference FTW!

  • No he didnt screw it up - He sings it with Tragically Hip in the place of fablously rich in all their live concerts...

  • haha at 0:55 gordie screws up the line he says tragically hip when it's supposed to be fabulously rich. look at his expression after he just shakes his head and finishes the song flawlessly, i can't get enough of the hip

  • @G0JETSG0

It's amazing how people can make something out of nothing. That was not a mistake.

  • @NoUniEst ya he sure is a genius, i got tickets to seem them in july!!

  • @G0JETSG0 FUCKING RIGHT JULY FIRST TORONTO

  • @G0JETSG0 He starts Grace, Too off like that all the time, switches the lines.

  • @CoheedMars90 funny, because i saw him on a radio interview and he did say he screwed it up

  • @G0JETSG0 There are like 5 other videos on here where he makes the exact same "mistake."

  • @CoheedMars90 ok this obviously is a stupid thing to be arguing about, bottom line, we both love the hip, that's all i need to know.

  • @G0JETSG0 I'm honestly not arguing dude, I'm just trying to let you in on a little bit more of the hip mythology.

  • @CoheedMars90

He talks about it in his interview on Q radio.

  • @CoheedMars90

The guy's made the exact same "mistake" at every Hip show I've been to since '98.

  • @Fakename70 I don't know if you're agreeing with me or think I'm the guy that's saying he made a mistake. In any event, I agree with you.

  • @CoheedMars90

You & I are on the same page. Gord's fooled many over the years into believing he says that by "accident".

  • Tie your hair up, Bobby.

  • THANKS FOR THIS! Precious!

  • This is perfection...

  • THE PRICE IS RIIIIIGGHHHT!!!

  • gord looks like sheldon cooper

  • @longboardWPG Take it back.

  • @longboardWPG Holy crap... Gordie really does 0.o.

  • @longboardWPG Troof.

  • @longboardWPG right? That's weird....

    GO JETS GO!

  • @longboardWPG The Canadian Sheldon Cooper

  • @longboardWPG **** sheldon cooper looks like gord

  • hereee noooooo, nooooooo! hipppp, hereeeeee noooooooooo!!!!!nooooo!!!!!

O ya, The Hip Are the shit. No questions please.

  • I think he's having acid flashbacks at 3:07.

  • Gord sounds great here.

  • still no dislikes sunshine....its like you are not ever here and we can`t see you...

  • still no dislikes sunshine....

  • Broad had an awfully good Showcase Showdown, didn't she? 36K?

  • they are just that amazing

  • this is to good to be live

  • He was a loon even back then! Good on ya, Gord.

  • Wow. For a guy with Down Syndrome, he sings pretty good. I'm impressed. Go Canada.

  • @Rosemarieplourde....what kind of shit comment is that??? Remember this Rosemarie!!! When you plant shit seeds you get shit weeds!!

  • the one dislike is me, fags

  • 0 dislikes. Nice.

  • Holy shit. Up for two years, and no dislikes. Tragically Hip are amazing.

  • I've heard the shows are good when Gord can get up on stage sober.

  • @JexiesGhost no no you have it all wrong. Shows are bad when Gord gets on stage sober.

  • Gord has hair!! Great performance, never knew they were on SNL before this. Thanks for posting

  • In a word. Gord~

  • Love love how the Hip RoCK ThiS!!!!!!!!!

  • Genius is right they are playing in bobcaygeon this summer I can't wait

  • anyone else think Gord looks like Sheldon from Big Bang Theory in this clip? LONG LIVE THE HIP!

  • @Zuma44 Last week, I sent this to a buddy, who loves both Sheldon and The Hip. Good to know it wasn't just me.

  • @Zuma44 that was my FIRST THOUGHT. glad I'm not alone in that!

  • LOVE The Hip!!!

  • the world just witnessed genius

  • How tight is that- and kicking ass on SNL no less? I have seen lots and lots of concerts in my life and the TH shows I saw were the best very concerts I've ever seen. The band is so tight, Gord is electrifying, and I just found myself blown away. If you have a chance, please check them out.

  • WOOOOOOOOOO from Kingston Ont canada on SNL baby!!! thata boy Danny!

  • Epic. SNL always brings out better than studio quality in all the right bands.

  • he does look like niles

  • Back when Hip was King!

  • I've heard the hip on the radio for so many years. I've never really seen them play live though. One of the most unique, and awesome, bands out there, especially in this video. :)

  • oh ya , That what am here for , I come from toronto , born and raised , And the hip is what am here for

  • Comment removed

  • no dislikes, because thats how it should be, HIP ALL THE WAY

  • seen the hip several times...cuz its the hip!!

but their golden heydays were from 89' to 97'.....after that, the classic hip style disappeared and evolved into something else. Still very cool and awsome to experience....but you'll never see the "road apples" or " fully completely" hip ever again.....:(

  • You guys don't know what you"re talking about. Gordon is an amazing singer. And the Tragically Hip is the best band that Canada has seen so far.

  • @amcartt agreed

  • canadian shite

  • Stil have yet to see this band live but every live preformance i see makes me wonder what would be more entertaining watching the entire band live or just gordie when hes on stage he looke possessed lol

  • gord almost looks disapointed that no one aplauded the lyric switch of fabulously rich to tradgically hip lolz

  • sweet

  • Johnny Fay is the fuckin man! Smashes his left drumstick to bits at the end and tosses it, ha! Powerful drummer.

  • Thanks man, awsome score.

  • mankinds greatest musical achievement

  • amazing. amazing. amazing.

  • Ahaha, at 2:26 look at Gord Sinclair, Just Awesome!!

  • love the hip, is that sheldon lol

  • @itsalargeworld .........no doubt!! That is Sheldon!!

  • @Sheldon66 ahaha HIP are great long live canada

  • THIS is why I don't bother with SNL musical guests anymore. Look how simple the stage design is. It looks like it's just some dudes jammin' in the attic. The focus is on the incredible performance. As opposed to now, where every guest perfoms on a set that I guess is supposed to replicate an actual arena-sized concert experience. But, visually, it's always so incredibly overblown that it's really nothing more than a distraction. Even the 'Stones didn't need any visual fluff for their SNL gig.

  • Love the Hip but, is it just me or does Gord look like Sheldon from Big Bang Theory?

  • @twopie2 LMAO i was just about to say that, then i scrolled down to write it and saw your comment!! haha HIP 4 EVER

  • I remember watching this live in a friend's basement drinking rye and pepsi's out of plastic cups. CLASSY.

  • Its almost like he's a little more subdued for SNL and the national audience. Usually he rambles, curses a bit, and goes all out on stage. He is an entertainer.

  • @freeyourmind9708 lol yeah hes quite the performer usually

  • love the hip, but a very shitty performance from gord. sheldon from big bang and niles crane mated and this came out

  • my ap euro teacher showed this to me....changed my life.

  • He's cute, funny and a good singer too! Hahaha... just watching him is making me laugh hard... what a character lol LMAO Music great and Gordie's performance is a fully great entertainment

  • Comment removed

  • rep300 well done. I have often compared the two phases but you're correct...it occured during Night and Day. All said...they can always claim four of the best albums in Canadian music and in mind opinion rock and roll.

  • Ok, this is so wrong, but Gordie totally reminds me of Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory in this video. WOW. That said, Holy crap! LISTEN to the BAND. This is why the Hip are still the best in my opinion. Four guys who are so tight lead by a complete mad man simmering under the surface.

  • Awesome, huh? And what's with these comments "sounds flat" ??? Get real you dummies and go back to watching america's got talent. THIS IS THE BEST ROCK BAND IN THE FREAKIN WORLD.

  • @buceintoronto Being a fan of a band does not deny anybody the right to criticize them when they see fit.

  • Queens UNIVERSITY'S finest

    FROM KINGSTON ONTARIO

wat more could label them canadian boys

  • @COLR13

I'd leave Queen's University out of it. Queen's is a disgrace to our fine city.

  • tragically hip canadian legends

  • Gord just wants to freak the f**k right out! u can see it!

  • first time he said the lyrics " she said im tragically hip!" live , said it ever since , you can see , hes like .. fuckk lol UNREAL gordie for prime minister

  • You know what I find awesome about this video. Not only the performance, but the fact that there's 24,981 views on it. And then their second performance "Nautical Disaster" has 24,500 views... Which means that most Hip fans view this video, then go right to the next. You don't see that with many other bands. Way to go!

  • Good for you scat, mispelling S-n@ L so they can't find it, fuck them greedy bastards!

  • i also wish he always sand like this.

  • Man, Gord was on for this performance! I forget how great they used to be. The nostalgia!

  • tite but didnt do justice to what the live venues were like at the time....there is a reason theyre as popular today as then ..the live shows were something else entirely"greatest show youd never remember was the hip back then

  • Gordie is such a spazz when he sings. I love it.

  • haha I fuckin' love that little body shake that he does at 3:14 haha... greatest shit ever. what an entertainer!

  • you would never know this was live if it wasnt for the video

  • @RiRa211 ...except for the fact that he screwed up the first line, while trying to remember a promise to flash his two index fingers together as a signal to his nephew on his eleventh birthday...and the mental "Oh Shit" reaction....

  • Gordie looks a little like Sheldon from Big Bang Theroy here :)

I'm glad i think he's really rad though. Awesome and the Quintessential Canadian band.

  • @triphendrix lmao !!! no doubt he does

  • Gord's such a spazz. I love it..!!

  • sick

  • this album is there best by fair

  • Gord used that same opening line to Grace, Too at Woodstock '99...

  • I've seen them live a few times and he's used it a couple times before.

It's a pretty standard live adaption.

  • An opportunity lost.

  • Gord is the fuckin man

  • Thanks for posting - great performance! I remember hearing Gord say that he was so focused on remembering to flash the "11" sign for this nephew's 11th birthday (which was that day) that he blew the first line of the song!

That said, except for that 1/2 second "OMG" facial expression you'd never really knew it phased him. What a pro!

  • @glsgtp

He often signs "He said I'm Tragically Hip" live. Was this the first time he did it, and is that why he does it now?

  • @Lagerhog16

I believe i saw him say in an interview that he messup that line and blurted out Tragically hip. You can see it in his face lol. "wtf was that"

  • @crazkurtz he said it was his nephews 11th birthday and thats why he hold up his two fingers to represent a 11 for him, he was so intent on not forgetting to do that he screwed up the line.

  • Awesome....great expression Downie!

  • I used to equate Downies onstage antics to those of Mick Jagger. Then I remembered that Jagger was just annoying to watch whereas Downie is both comical and entrancing.

  • Gord being a spazz is a big part of what we love about The Tragically Hip. Right? It's absolutely engaging to the one listening and watching, and it helps to relay the message he's wanting to get across to us all. Brilliant recording artists all 5 of them are!

  • I love Gordon's face right after he got the first line wrong. It was like "Oh crap" to "yeah, I meant to do that" in half a second.

  • God. Downey is always so cracked out. Puts on a good concert though.

  • why does he dance weird i dont know but i love the tragically hip my now boyfriend asked me out when 38 years old was on and he was 39

  • @sexygirl30010

so you're like 50 now? eeeeww

  • Saw them at Art Park this past June. It would have been so awesome if they had played this, one of my all time favorites. I had someone special with me and she would have just loved this song. Lar

  • I've watched this so many times!!!!

I've never thanked you for posting though!

    So THANK YOU!

One of the best performances I've seen on SNL, silly americans don't know what they're missing!!!

So much better than some of the garbage they've had on SNL in the last few years, a venue like this shows whether a performer/s have any REAL talent, and as always The Hip has it in spades!

  • niles? niles crane? is that you?

  • @helloyou64

    heh . . so true - Gord looks a tad nerdy here - but in a neat way . . .

  • where can I buy that shirt?

  • god bless the hip....=)

  • GREATEST BAND IN THE ENTIRE WORLD!

  • they sound so good.
