Just because you can move your legs at the time of the injury doesn't mean you won't become paralyzed. They keep moving him around improperly. Damn, that was a spine snapping move if I ever saw one. That rattles me to the bone. I have broken my back and I know what it feels like.
Was his own fault. he went for a kneebar without letting go of his full guard. He took away the other guys leg. He could only fall that direction. by keeping his guard close, it kept his legs wrapped up, and bent him in half. Terrible luck, but not the guy on tops fault whatsoever.
No comparte este tipo de disciplina, hay que tener contacto físico....., prefiero el karate, golpeo y rompo, no tengo contacto más que con mis nudillos...jajajajajj
That sucks. As someone who studies BJJ, when someone is going to put me in a position like that, I know whats going to happen next, that way I can position myself if needed. Sometimes that doesnt always work, but we know that accidents happen, and we all train safely, but when something goes wrong, we know its not always the other guys fault. Today someone fell on my leg, and ankel, hurting me badly. Its black and blue, and im going back tomorrow. No pain, No gain!
I don't know anything about rules but that was about as intentional as you could get. He had to set him up for it. He doesn't look paralyzed because his legs seem to work. Hope he came back and whipped the tar out of this guy.
@rwsmith29456 it wasn't intentional. his foot positioning was wrong and he slipped. this happens. people get hurt when they train combat sports. its the risk you take when you decide to undertake such a sport.
in BJJ even for a beginner, if they lock something in, it will hurt, if they over extend in training on something as simple as an arm bar, they will break you're arm. this stuff happens. its unfortunate, but true. unlike boxing, everyone is friends after a BJJ match, theres no bad bloos
Brutal,t hough i respect at 4:07 that Anthony Scales knelt down an said a prayer for him. Much respect for his opponent and did not intentionally hurt him; just part of the sport.

@AboveEmAllProduction Yah, you are missing something, it's called a fucking brain. I guess one day when someone chokes you out or leaves you lying twisted like a pretzel on the ground you'll look pretty gay. Or when you're lying in the hospital paralyzed from an inverted gogoplata you'll think back to the guy that "hugged" you into paralysis. Don't talk shit about a martial art you know nothing about.
@AboveEmAllProduction Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a martial art. Not a Gay sex porno if that's what your looking for it's not on youtube and I apologize. A real martial art and unfortuantly for the fighter a dangerous accident
Whoever it was who got injured put himself in that position. He arched his back and posted on his head. I would say in a real fight the winner obviously did the right move and was not his fault. He took advantage of the situation, even if it was an accident, and I say bravo.
Karate is from Okinawa. Ju Jitsu is practiced in "mainland" japan. It is a Martial arts perfected on the battle field. Their are many forms of Ju Jitsu. Helio as mentioned practiced and perfected the ground game or Ne Waza. Judo was created by taking all the throws from ju jitsu and making it a "Sport". That is why although some Ne Waza do exit in Judo it is almost all throws.
@knukles64he was closer to to leg then arm, he was in guard and looked as if he was trying to kick his leg down ,and flip onto his belly, like what could happen in a arm bar.he ended up in a boston crab like position, and the other guy just guided him then went to the ground ,spine breaker ,back breaker.dont leave your neck in this way ,a bad wrong move.i have never seen this ,dont no what he was thinking ,
What happen is the guy in the bottom try to do a sweep. You have to put your arm around the opponent leg and push and pull in order to make the opponent fall. The thing is the opponent did a move to break his sweep....and the result is a freaking bad accident. I do bjj and i had a neck injury too....very painful.

In judo you would be disqualified for this.
Perhaps a 2 year ban, depending on the injury and intention, we must all take care not to break backs/necks.
