Alvaro - if by Hawaiian you really want to say "Polynesian" it's like calling a rectangle a square (all squares are rectangles, but a rectangle isn't a square). You'll find there are many similiarities in ALL Polynesian dances & costumes (Cook Islands, Hawaii, Tahiti, etc) & with their seafaring culture it's difficult to say exactly what came from where & when because they all borrow from each other...

A check with Google Earth reveals the following.

Easter Island is 2400 miles from the coast of Chile.

The Cook Islands are at a further 3230 miles from Easter Island.

New Zealand is closer to the Cook Islands at a mere 1800 miles than Easter Island.

Is not much left of the original people of the island. The current "natives" of the island are mostly of other Polynesian or Chilean descent. The culture, likewise, is more influenced today by outside polynesian culture that it is by its original culture.
