@no1butmeau I searched for info about it in Google, The news as of November 2010 (That I read, at least) Was that it was put in storage due to a lack of funds.
cant help but point out the fact that in another video when they buried the car..an old guy said when they get the car out..it wil be in pristine condition and that someone is going to be a lucky owner!! words to that affect anyway....big huge LOL from me..shame really..like someone said..maybe they should have buried it in oil!! then it would be in the same condition 50 years later..or near as dam it!!.. :-)
"It's gonna be a little rusty but that's ok"...lol yeah more like the car is so rusted the doors don't open anymore and the body is weakened by the rust and rot. Not to mention both leaf springs were busted in half and the interior is non existent.
Sadly this car has already been determined to be non-restorable. They were going to replace the frame with a stronger one until they found the body was too fragile from all the rust to separate. So this will end up as a museum piece.
it wasn't just the car. it was a time capsul filled with items placed in it 50 years preveous. None of it was supposed to get damaged, so I'm sure the idea was they would have this "brand new" car and letters written from 50 years ago. Without the exposure to the elements it would have been really cool. the papers wouldn't be yellowed... good idea... bad design :)
wow cool, i heard about this.. and then i heard about the water.. too bad, but i think its better if its rusty.. if it would be in mint condition it would be like every restored 50's car today, now you can acctually SEE that its been underground for 50 years, and that is cool ! :D lets do it again,
with a chevy colbalt... then in fifty years people will be like, so wait, technology moved forward for a hundred years since 1900, and then they made this? whats next for us, the reinvention of the horse and buggy?
Oh, btw, just let me say that the Tulsa World newpaper, when you go to their website the url you can guess... you have Automotive ads screaming out of your computer speakers. I know its common on newspaper websites, but damn I click away so fast to.... audio ads make me jerk off so fast.....
It describes their city best bury it and it will come back rusty. What a waste of a car and a shame of the people living there.Thats why in NY we dont do stupid shit like that
In NY it all ends up in the river before you can remember where it came from. Then you build upon that. And, thats all fine, no one will give you shit about it but me. It might be a rusty piece of shit, but you dont have one. Check craigslist, under the heading "history we dont have".
what history are you talkin about i live in vages and cant stand what they did i guess they never herd of museams o wait they dont exibit shit in museams
and to think people back then thought we'd be a civilised race flying around and whatnothow wrong was that generation on predicting the future, they sure didnt see the hippy generation coming.
Anyway its a nice thing to do.. Keep doing it, and personally i think the important part is the newspapers, magazines, photos, and those things we use everyday, like telephones, mobile phones, memory sticks, cds, clocks, clothes, jeans, digital cameras, pc, portable computers, pdas, jeje, so in 50 years from now people see those things and say my god look the size of this cell phone...
Officials took different precautions for the car in the 1998 time capsule. Encased in modern plastics and stored in a vault above ground, a 1998 Plymouth Prowler was entombed at Centennial Park. The Prowler's time capsule won't be opened until 2048. Instead of being lowered into an underground vault like the Belvedere, the Prowler was driven into an above-ground mausoleum, which was then welded shut and presurized with Argon gas and partly covered with dirt.
You lot amaze me, aparent car enthusiasts and global masterminds as you claim to be. Your all missing the point, As thick as Tulsans may be (I've never met one !) What they've done is make a rat rod ! Duhhhh ! Just pray Boyd Codington Dosen't get his greesey hands on it !Jarrod
Even though Miss Belvedere didn't look as good as Tulsans hoped after a half-century underground, everyone was really glad to see her again and that's really the point. Even all rusty and moldy, look how many warm, fuzzy memories she evoked! It's almost like finding your old teddy bear in the attic.
anyone see that lazy ass deputy? looked like he would rather be at a quiktrip or a donut shop. tulsa offocials deserved everything that happened to the car. they thought about nothing but money. and looks like its appearance hurt their ticket sales. and as soon as their done making every red cent theyll prob put it in a salvage yard. TULSA SUCKS!!!!!!!
You can all go to hell. Odds are they have all accomplished more than you assholes! It was 1957 what do you expect! You should all be ashamed of yourselfs for making fun of a beautiful although rusted piece of history. She should go to a museum where she won't be insulted by a bunch of stupid ingrates like yourselves! Oh thanks aeroduro for the info.
it was water tight some crooked government worker swapped their shit box for a brand new car n wrapped it in cloth before they buried that fucker !

Its like they went out to any ole dump and picked out a good for nothing rusty old heap. This had to be the biggest hick town bloopers of all time!
I mean really!
Its like they dug up a dead rotten corpse from the city graveyard, dressed it up and pranced it around as if it were in a beauty pageant.
OOOH the humanity!
And then they tried to play it off like "Look! SEE... its alright...its fine..yeah..heh..fine"
Maaaahahahahahaha!

@CIRS26 A shiny new Plymouth was buried there in 1957. And it was unearthed in 2007. It had lots of stuff from 1957, and it was like a time capsule.
