  • Me and my mom have been going there for there whole life and now to see that is gone and it is so sad My mom has been there for 50 and my grandparents 70 i couldn't think that this would happen but it did

  • How come so many other states grow and improve their State Fairs and ours "peters out"? Sad and disappointing. Great singing btw.

  • Just watched your video - COOL and CLEVER! We agree about your thoughts on the fair leaving town. Too bad, we've been going since the 60's & 70's! Not sure if we'll drive all the way to G.I., but we may perhaps give it a try once. We'll definitely miss the great food and free concerts. See you on the flip side, Tom! P.S. It was good to see you the other day, looking forward to getting together with ya. KV & MV

  • Thanks, Tom...enjoyed the video. I don't have any hope that the decisions made by the The Powers That Be will be overturned, and so fully expect the Nebraska State Fair to struggle to survive in Grand Island. The song captured my feelings about the whole idiocy. And for those who keep blindly supporting the University's plans for the State Fair property, all I can say is...oh, yeah, they did SUCH a great job with their existing Technology Park. Ha! It's heartbreaking to see what's happened.

  • If Lincoln Loses I will cry!

  • This is an EXCELLENT video. THANKS ALOT! It was well done and I am going to subscribe to your videos.

  • My personal opinon is that it should stay here in Lincoln, however I think it should be up to the people to vote on. If they vote to keep it in Lincoln then it stays, if they vote for it to go to Grand Island, then that's where it should go.

  • Good tune but the State Fair will be more appreciated in a town like Grand Island. The fair Grounds (property) in Lincoln will finally get some use! (more than 10 days a year) Still a good tune though! Thanks Tom

  • Pearlman here- parking garages up, tenure down, Solich out- Callahan in,

wishes fair gone-dreams research park here See a pattern??

satbility quality, values and tradition pushed out, power , risk, appearances, and anything goes coming in Hope stopped. Citizens need heard!

  • Right On!!! One year we wtold to count all people enetering the gate -as it had been done for years. Paper reported great turnout. After Pearlman we were told to count number of cars entering gate only-no surprise-paper reported decreased numbers that was used to justify the move. Shady and inaccurate- NOT faor!

  • It'll be interesting to see what the supreme court says, cross our fingers i guess, Keep the fair in Lincoln!!!

  • Love this song and the video. If you can't count on tradition, what else is there? Regardless, the NE Supreme Court will hear the case and in any event, we need to more closely examine the choices that we make when we vote people into office. They make decisions based on what they stand to gain, both politically and financially. Nice job, Tom. It is okay to be passionate about things. It's what makes us real. Thanks and I applaud your energy and your enthusiasm on the issue.

  • passion? try self promotion.

  • What else is there? Creativity, imagination, inspiration, new opportunities, growth, change, diversity, equality... I guess there is a lot beyond the simple notion of tradition. Many wrongdoers have justified their actions based solely on "tradition."

  • oh my... I'm of an era of protest songs by the likes of Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, and the great Bob Dylan... this "protest" song (a grown man - or is it Peter Pan - perched atop his own childhood memories) is pathetic.

As the Great Bob Dylan continues to remind us ... times, they are changin'...

Thanks "Cavegod1970's" ... Grand Island, here comes Tom Roth!

  • amen? which is it---did you like it or not---be a man and stand up---you want them to take away the fair like they took away COOLCREST----nice empty lot there now--do you get it ? or do i have to sing it to you osmond brothers style---

  • ridiculous.

  • yeah you are---get a life

  • You will probably attend the Supreme Court hearing. I hope you follow-up with more intelligent rhetoric.

  • no i dont have time like you do wasting it on youtube----i have a representative on retainer and he takes care of my political agenda----do you need a job mr youtube---i dont have any positions right now for polishing my shoes but stay in touch

  • You are correct about one thing - this video is a complete waste of time and space on Youtube.

  • do you work for the university as their lobbyist on youtube---i heard your full time job is cleaning the swine barns after the state fair---guess youll have to find another job now but with your credentials im sure its a piece of cake for you

  • I believe in equality. The good people of this State will support the State Fair - here or there. UNL is a 21st Century learning institution that serves to enhance and enrich this great State - from the likes of Willa Cather to the bright minds of the future. Long live the University of Nebraska - Lincoln.

  • the poll taken at the state fair said 80% of the people wont go to GI ---i wont be either---youre right about unl------they are 21st century---liberal and ungodly like all higher education institutions have become---our god here is football----who is your god sir

  • You are hurling insults in every direction which renders this exchange unproductive. May I leave you with one rhetorical question... Why is it that the fanatics always think God is on their side?

  • thanks for the compliments---thats my nature to do those things and the bible says that if god be for you who can be against you---thats me the fanatics---now please dont talk about the bible because i will have to condescend more---more to your level

  • save the fair i knew the owners from last year thay cant take it away from the place where it belongs

  • YES!!! nicely put Tom!! The State Fair belongs in Lincoln where it has been!

  • Ummm. . . No. This guy could ONLY get a gig at the State Fair in Grand Island.

  • so what---its probably a better job than you got :)

  • "than you have" would be the proper grammatical structure.

  • Great job Tom, I haven't been to the State Fair since I was a kid, haven't been in Nebraska during the fair for 30 years. I have great memories of the fair and hope it continues to make great childhood memories.

The question isn't about where the State Fair should be, but should the University steamroll it's way to everything thing it wants and not care what the community thinks.

  • The community thrives largely because of the University.

  • I can't decide if this is a clever satire or for real.

  • good riddance

  • awesome music

  • The Fair should stay. Is this going to happen? Don't know, I have traveled this state from North to South East to West. West of Highway 81, most people want the easterners to stay away. Everyone from the East think that these folks milk cows all day. I see a much bigger issues regarding this fair. How does moving this fair from Lincoln make this One State? Maybe the media is right we are just hayseeds. Ill go to the fair next year be it in Lincoln or Grand Island, Why? I love this state.

  • What a cry baby!!!!!

  • you pussys.....if it is OUR FAIR....why not put it in the middle? it's only fair for the rest of the state...oh wait, you Big city folk don't even realize that there is anything west of Lincoln....jeeze....all these years and all the sudden you have to be the ones to drive?WAH, WAH, WAH,about time, the road goes both ways! I think it was a Great Idea. Just remember it took what, 120 years or whatever to get the State fair to what it is today, so don't go sayin it failed in its FIRST year!

  • Mr. Masternate (do you really want such a name?)

the Ideal is a monorail system that will take tourists from the Kearney Arch to the Lower GI State Fair Grounds to Harold Warp's Pioneer Village. This will become the hub of Nebraska tourism. For an extra ticket, visit Red Cloud, and get a free booklet about Willa Cather. Don't forget the deep-fried twinky and the onion blossom!

  • paaaaaaaaalease get a life

  • The State Fair - indeed. Change is good.

  • I appreciate this comment - with family and family farms from one end of the state to the other, I know the move is appreciated.

  • Good job Tom!!

  • Such a lame video. That fair in Lincoln has always been a laughing stock. Hardly anybody ever went there. It's not much better than a county fair. A lot of people are supportive of the move from those I've talked to.

  • Your argument makes no sense. If it was "lame" and no one went to it, what makes you think people will go to it in GI? Why are people supportive of the move if its so lame? Whats so lame about the fair? How is good food, good shows, good rides, and good concerts lame? You must be from GI... its absurd to move it to grand island.

    Keep it in Lincoln.

  • Thank you for posting. I agree.

  • dega you obviously don't know the facts or even have a hint of a clue

  • I love the song and the video! Thank you for expressing our feelings Tom! You are awesome! We need to fight for OUR State Fair! Dianne
