That thing looked huge.How long would you guess that it was?Maybe it was just cause it was kind of standing up or whatever you call it.But it looked like a big snake.
I have caught & released hundreds of them in Canada on the Georgian Bay.They call them mississaga rattle snakes up there instead of pigmy or swamp rattlers. I have pictures of them all. The place I camp & fish is full of them. The largest was 3/12 foot long & real fat.
I'm pretty sure it was not a pigmy. I have some high res photos of the same snake and it has been looked at by biologists and they said it was a typical western diamondback. Shoot me an e-mail and I'll send you some of the pictures if you want.

I know the feeling.Rattlesnake encounters always make me a little jump afterwards too.lol

I ended up walking (the long way) around it. I was spooked all day. Every rabbit and mouse I saw and heard had me jumping.
