when i had the orginal when i was little i couldnt figure out how to open the first temple so i just randomly killed monster in the beach area then i get the red tunic
now older playing it on the 3ds i was wondering how i didnt get the tunic being half way in XD
I've been using this glitch since the first time I played this game, found it out myself. Although I thought you needed a piece of power or guardian acorn to do it. About 90% of the time I got the color I wanted though.
Anyway, according to the theory in the description you would lose your color if you stay in the overworld for too long and kill 90 enemies. You would probably get a 0 and turn green again. This has however never happened to me. Could you explain that to me?
duuude when i had the emulator my strategy to get money was to go to the place where the monkey trows coconuts over you and suddenly i became red! i though it was an error with the emulator
@petrie911 Thanks, I figured it out earlier. Are we sure this is actually a glitch? It seems pretty consistent and easily achieved without any special conditions.
I am about to try this for the first time. What happens when you have infinite enemies (like the spiders out of the hole or the graveyard dogs)? Do these count, and how would you determine the index in this instance?
I played this game the whole weak (for the first time) and had the red tunic even tho i had no idea why i got it lol but mine is still there even after saving and quiting the game like 30 times. And i've never been to the "color dungeon"? Just found out it exists because ive seen a video of a blue tunic and didn't know how to get it. Really strange. So keeping the tunics seems possible.
The only thing you can tell a priori is that the index of an enemy will be less than the number of enemies on the screen. The only exception I've found to this is the urchin by the sword, which is index 02 despite being the only enemy on the screen. Otherwise, it's mostly trial and error, though a memory viewer speeds up the process enormously.
indices 4 and up are more alternate colors. 04, 05, and 06 are black with blue, green, and purple highlights, respectively. 07-0E are blank, 0F is Green again, 10 is gold, and 11-1F seem to be the same as 01-0F. After that, I'm not sure.
They all give different palettes during photo ops, though, and I don't know what boosts, if any, they give.
Cool! I need to play through with the damage tunic now. I've been looking for a new way of playing the game after playing with both color tunics so many times, doing 0-death runs, and abusing the screen warping glitch in the non-color version.

If I constantly switch between tunics, will my photo data be overwritten by the damage sprite tunic every time I get that one?
Shoopman47 8 months ago
@Shoopman47 yes. Unfortunately, pics 3 and 4 can't be gotten after the Marin event, so it's best to do this before then.

This is awesome! Just curious, what tunic would link get if he killed actor #04? Or does that never appear in-game?

I'm a tad bit confused (have not tried this yet) To perform the glitch, you just kill 90 enemies on the over world? Do you need to do anything else?
KitBikyuu 1 year ago
@KitBikyuu Nope. Just kill 90 enemies without leaving the overworld. The 90th enemy you kill determines which tunic you get.

You might have noticed that, in the video (at 1:04), I specifically say that you keep the tunic after saving and quitting.

How do you tell the Index of an enemy?

ok, it took me two tries, but I learned that
A) you can do it at any time. just go indoors to restart.
B) killing multiple enemies at once is fine
C) the enemy you kill for 90 doesn't have to be the only one you kill on that screen
D) bushes don't count
I don't know how it decides which enemy to use for the sprite if you kill multiple at once, or if knocking them down holes counts or not
Nilaky 2 years ago
Yes, all of those are true. I don't remember ever saying otherwise.
Anyways, if two enemies die on the same frame, I would guess it writes the lower index first. This is rather unlikely, though.
Knocking enemies down holes does not count.
