  • She's so graceful.

Love this song so much yet aching in my heart.

  • Pacing on this song is magnificent. Not hurried, but not late...

  • One of my fav Bonnie Raitt song....seems to take us back to a certain

time and place....You all should hear Nikolas Metaxas version of this

    song.....very powerful

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

  • Tearjerker...every time.

  • Some of Regina Spektor's songs dig this deep. So do "Dido's" If you don't know those artists...check them out. They are profound.

  • just too beautiful....!!!

  • Beautiful breathtaking song..

  • I've felt the pain this song explains ... if ever there was a song where the music, the melody, and the lyrics fit so perfectly, this would be it... I close my eyes to this and it conjures up the memories ... sometimes it's good to remember that kind of hurt.

  • Who are the 2 goofballs who don't like this song!

  • WHAT A SONG!!! And Bruce Hornsby, one of the most underated piano players of all time..

  • She isn't losing the person she loves, she is letting him go.

  • awesome song, agree with the below.

  • For you young. I once loved a girl. I let her go. I married another. 21 years later the marriage ended. I looked for the 'true' love again. Only to find she'd just died of cancer.

Don't let the special one get away. X

  • @niptodstan that comment made me cry really bad, i feel for you man.

  • @niptodstan There is nothing worse then losing the one you love forever.

  • @pansyinthegarden She isn't losing him, she is letting him go.

  • Breath taking!

  • Love is immortality

  • Man! If there was a contest for what beautiful things we can make out of our pain - this song would win! Song is great, she's great - perfect match.

  • The first time hears I was speechless. Every thing from the piano to the backgroud singers were perfect.

  • @1966kdickson If you don't feel this in your heart you're not human....I really like the Jesus comment above. This is probably how God feels about us.......the problem is God is the only thing that really fills that emptiness we all try to fill in all sorts of ways and it has to pain Him watching our efforts in futility.

  • Beautiful!

  • Truly beautiful song sung by a beautiful woman, rejection so hard to bare at times, but makes one stronger in the long run. Love Bruce on the keyboards. Great Post.

  • I keep coming back to this beautiful song each time I log on. Outstanding performance. Even the high note was reached without the slightest strain. Few artists can match their original studio version. Ms Raitt effortlessly surpasses her original recording.

  • Don't even have to have gone through the emotions to realise what a beautiful song this is. Seen her a few times and its great how she sings this with so much feeling.

  • Been there.

  • I do not think you could say this any better, the pain will always be there.

  • Incredible Performance and band!

  • Is this Bruce Hornsbury playing piano? I think it is :) Double brilliance :) x

  • @Ellie9691 Indeed it is. I can't imagine this song without Hornsby.

  • Absolutely phenomenal!!

  • Great song. Great singer. Great post. I love Youtube.

  • My god, Bonnie Raitt, she is such a good singer. How she stands there quietly and offers her whole life, love and pain in this song. Thank you so much

  • I've always loved this song. :) a song that I can totally relate to. thanks for posting this video.:)

  • Piano, so cool!!!

  • I live, feel, love, embrace and wrote this.....

  • i really love this song... someday i will upload my video singing this lovely song....

  • From a spiritual point, I could see how Jesus must have felt, especially as He went to the cross.

  • @soap1919jt - I agree....how his heart must have broken knowing this. :( it's very heart wrenching. :(

  • @soap1919jt Wow! I didn't think of that...gives it new meaning for me. Thanks.

  • @soap1919jt Oh Pleeeaaaassseeeee...........

  • @soap1919jt Any connection to this song?

  • This has got to be, arguably, one of the most hauntingly beautiful, ageless songs ever written -- a song that transcends all generations, tastes, preferences, etc. This is the type of song almost anyone can relate to in some way.

I personally don't know of anyone who doesn't love this song.

    Now this is music!

  • Best song ever.... never felt emotions through a song like this one. Bonnie you you have a true gift!

  • sooooooooooooooo sweet

  • is that bruse hors by on the 88,s??

  • True words. But I can love ;) Wspaniałe słowa.

  • Beautiful.

  • OMG, thats Bruce Hornsby on the keyboard...winna, winna...

  • Who is the pianist, famous in his own right?

  • @rhurt87058 Larry Bird....lol, he's nice though, REAL nice

  • It is still nice to be in love...........getting a little misty eyed though

  • Probably had the worst night in my life. She left me because I closed her out. Im not perfect. Oh well. Healing process begins now.

  • to J-bird again.....i see... on a back porch in July...sanctified on 17..... truth....

  • How can you touch this? Really? I mean... I am a feeler.. an emotive conseuqeunce to myself... a retributive concept ion love's honor... Thank you a thousand times over for this song... To J-bird...... From L-Pop... FOREVER>.....

  • man she sings this song!!! This is a very sad, but honest song :-/

  • What an outstanding and magical performance

  • brilliant

  • Every time I hear this song I get misty eyed! Can't help it....Mz. Raitt expresses such a warmth and devotion to the power of love........For me it is her signature song!......It doesn't matter whether you're in love or out of love...if you have ever experienced the disappointment that love can sometimes bring then you can relate! ....

@fredfredvid Thank you for this awesome upload..it is truly a gem!!!

  • Good god. How does one human being have so much soul?

  • I shall never tire of this song! It's timeless!

  • What do you guys think about Tanks version of this. I think he did ok but I'm not a true bonnie follower. I just remember hearing this all the time on the """smooth jazz""" stations as a kid.

  • Well said, Crest7878 ...... no one could own a song, heart and soul, like Bonnie ..... I have heard this version probably 500 times, and it STILL gives me gooseflesh, shivers, and the ultimate " musicgasm" ~

  • words can't even express how great this song is. a true classic. and no one, absoutely no one sings it better. And who better than Bruce Hornsby to accompany on keys...WOW

  • You had me @ "You". I still get inspired and a little choked up by this song, this performance and what Pure Talent looks like!

  • Shes hot

  • So many people have done so many shitty covers of this epic song. None can come close to the emotion in Bonnie's voice and the skill of Bruce on the piano.

  • i could go to sleep to this song every night... so beautiful.

  • Is that Bruce Hornsby?

  • I like this song a lot bein licening to it for a long time, a few years ,

  • Great perfomance

  • 2 people are def. that's the only reason not to like this. She is so amazing. I love my dead great grandpa's cousin. She has such a beautiful voice. I hope to be as good as her someday. =)

  • This is truly a great perfromance... thanks for posting.

  • Shes so talented. At sixty one shes still as talented as she was back then.

  • 2:59 - 3:09...is absolutely spell bounding, soul wrenching, and hauntingly beautiful!!!

  • I am overwhelmed by this talent - Bonnie could have me as her eternal slave - I would crawl over broken glass just to feel her smile!

  • it doesn't get any better than this - if you think you can sing/express/emote then watch this and think again!

  • I listen to Death Metal and this song moves me like nothing else,

  • i can't make Hornsby love me if he don't

  • I 'Ive had this happen to me its a hard realization when comes then you just got to move on.

  • there were times when i just put this song on repeat and cried myself to sleep..

  • Goosebumps!

  • Brilliant!

  • This is just totally awesome. She truly has soul. You can just feel it. The musicians are playing their buts off. Her phrasing, um.um.um

  • Wow, just short of 48,000 views.. cannot believe that.. I know I've listened to this song at least 47,000 times and still love it everytime...

  • This has got to be the most heart wrenching song ever recorded.

  • this was the songs I listened to when I broke up with my man of 6 years. I just cried more than ever but at the end of the day, it made me so much stronger. The part when she says "I close my eyes and I wont see, the love you dont feel when your holding me" made me break down everytime I heard it but the end when she said "No use of me trying" made me wipe my tears. you can only give all of you. If its not accepted, then least you kno u gave ur all.

  • @salaxxx21 You are so right, same here I can honestly say I gave it al I could, but It just wasnt enough, after all these years , how could anyone want more than i gave ? Well Ill be just fine, Ill close my eyes and I wont see either, but thats that .I really loved her with all my heart and soul, but it wasnt enough. happy trails .

  • @soggybuilders Ill tell you. Ive been thru so much that now when i listen to this song, I can smile. Actually, alot of songs, I can smile & just enjoy the music. I used to listen to music & it would break me into tears. I hope you get thru your pain because i know its not easy to get thru. :-)

  • @salaxxx21 You are so right, same here I can honestly say I gave it al I could, but It just wasnt enough, after all these years , how could anyone want more than i gave ? • The sad thing is....if you play this song for anyone you love and are about to lose...you will feel the power...but they won't....no they won't........

    >.<

  • Bonnie is absolutely amaizing!!!!!! She is so truly and simple in best way... She is the best!!!!

  • Loved this song since it came out in '90 or '91. True classic!

  • I know this song all to well in my heart!

  • I felt this song last nite all ovr again. felt the love wasnt reciprocated....such a sad song

  • OMG, while Bonnie Raitt's original version is a wonderful song and wonderfully done....George Michael's version just blows everyone else's out of the water....including Ms. Raitt's. You will appreciate Geoge's version even if you were never a fan of his or Wham UK! (LOL)

  • Bruce!

  • Every time I listen to this song, it helps me peel another layer deeper into the onion of my life.

  • @Prometheus1st

    I like your usage of

    metaphor...lolz.

  • Awesome performance!

  • Incredible!! A Classic! No one has a voice like Bonnie that matches the depth of the song so amazing.

  • ONE SIMPLE WORD. UNIK.

  • One of my favorite songs ever and two of my favorite artists - Bruce is also incredible, this song is so emotional

  • Does anyone knows who the woman playing percussion is?

  • Man, when this song came out, i bought the cassette and played it in my car so much that my toddler son started singing it because he had heard it so many times!

  • this song must bring a place back for everyone

  • @madmanmillett

    so true....

  • @UltraReviewer2 i remember talking to a girl at a bar who was crying to this song cause the guy she was with for 7 years was calling it quits.i could tell it hit her the way it was suppose to her just like this song

  • @madmanmillett Never do anything to a girl like that except listen. That is what she needs. If you do that...you may miss on a 'score' but you will gain a friend. We all need more friends. I have none, no family, no friends...so,..yeah. Cherish and hold what you can.

    PEACE

  • I remembering my mom listening to this song when my parents split, some eighteen years ago. I love this song. It is just so sad!

  • She is wonderful great backup on piano Bruce Hornsby

  • beautiful subdued performance

  • lightning strikes my soul everytime I hear this, ultimate love-blues, Ms Raitt speaks for many of the heartbroken... including me

  • I will always be moved by the lyrics of this song , I feel sad for the all the people that left the love that they dont see behind ,

  • one of the saddest song ive heard, and one of the only ones that move me to tears

  • oe of the saddest song ive heard, and one of the only ones that move me to tears

  • every time I listen to this song, I get chills

  • "I can't make you love me if you don't You can't make your heart feel something it won't." --- What else needs to be said?

  • She didn't need a controversial outfit , an amazing stage , out of this world rifts , all she needed was this song.

  • Bonnie, Bruce Hornsby and a gut wrenching song ...what could be better!

  • @Sameold2009 hey i THOUGHT that was bruce on keys!!! amazing

  • This song is so beautiful, and really speaks to me at this particular time in my life. What a lovely voice and song. Thanks for posting!

  • This song is so beautiful, and really speaks to me at this particular time in my life. What a lovely voice and song. Thanks for posting!

  • Actually, the title and subject of the song were taken from a feature story in the Nashville Tennessean newspaper--an interview with a man who had lost his home, lost his automobile and just lost his wife thru divorce. The reporter asked him if he felt like he'd been dumped on and he responded, "I can't make her love me if she don't." The story was spotted by songwriters Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin--and the rest is wonderful music history. Many thanks Mike, Allen an Bonnie!

  • George's cover of this song is one of my all time faves. But I am afraid it doesn't shine compared to Bonnie's original. Must be one of the most beautiful and saddest song ever written.

  • nice song it very good

    im like it

  • My eyes well up everytime I hear this beautiful song...one of the greatest songs ever written. 10/10

  • Mesmerizing!

  • I have tried many times to ad this song to my repertoire, but have never been able to get all the way through it without this huge lump forming in my throat. How Bonnie can sing it so beautifully and clear as a bell,I will never know. She and this song, meant for one another. You're both beautiful.

  • Great music, Great Song! Awesome! Strong words to consider in that very tough time when deciding to let go.Thank you so much for this song it has helped me in so many ways. Always brings tears!!!! Somebody got it right. Incredible.

    dante star

  • Have been hearing and knowing this sentiment for many years. Thank you for giving me a place to go to remember the simple truth. What a beautiful song, and hearing Bruces' amazing accompanyment just caps the evening off.

  • Good music, is GOOD MUSIC and this song by MS Bonnie Raitt, is DA BOMB. No matter what race, religion or personnel belief. If you understand GOOD MUSIC or performance, YOU get this video and song. And I BETCHA................

  • Maybe the best performance Ive heard. She is so sweet and blusey. I love her.

  • Absolutely incredible, beyond what words can describe. What this song does to me and for me; Bruce Hornsby performs beautifully alongside the blues songstress herself; awsome. This performance, awsome! Can't wait to sing with both of them. Signed, The Crosseyed Cat!

  • his it one of the best songs ever written. Maybe the best! - And she does it best!!

  • No one can make some one feel something that is not there in their heart. Even if an unplanned child is involved. Women tend to think getting pregnant will tie the man to her and her child... He will walk away from her and the child at his first chance out.

  • @pieces141127 ...and the opposite holds true for a woman too, certainly not as often, but it was with me.

  • Goosebumps every time I hear this song...

  • You know, I write songs and when you write songs its easy to feel like success comes down to a cosmic lottery of having the sound that people want to hear at the time. But this song disproves that. This song couldn't have been anything but one of the great songs of modern music. It's message is so simple and so universal, and yet it's original. Who else has expressed this idea so eloquently? I can't make you love me if you don't. What else needs to be said?

  • @Crest7878 I could not agree more

  • @Crest7878 really well said. and i think thats the root of all good music, like music that is actually good, that is pure and honest and is made out of necessity instead of just desire. the blues made an example of that--those cats didnt make music to get famous, they did it because it helped them get along thru life, it helped them heal. thats what musics about.

  • @Crest7878 - Oh God do I agree with your assesement of this song. Kills me everytime I hear it and I can start to actually cry and I am no sensitive guy - it also gives me the chills...

  • @Crest7878 Indeed. What else needs to be said ? This is the saddest song I have ever heard. But sometimes it is the absolute painful truth that must be accepted. And move on. I wish I had never needed to say or feel the words to this song, but I did once. This is still a beautiful tune that so many of us can relate to at some point in our lives. This is what makes it so great, I think.

  • @62view Oh yes, powerful indeed...The quintessential song for being in complete love, but realizing too late it's not mutual. Then, just wanting that last night together, no words, no explanations... no bullshit excuses to cheapen it...Feeling you must have that final night, in the darkness, with the one you know you'll never stop loving..

  • @TheAlysheba :'/

  • @TheAlysheba i think you and i have felt the same pain about being in love with someone who doesn't love you and never will.

  • @midatlanticcycle We probably have.. It's one of the worst feelings when that person acts as if they love you in return..and they do...to a point...for a while.. Then, for some reason, it fades.. You feel like you'd try to get them to feel it again, or try doing things to rekindle it all.. You then realize they just don't feel the same and you have that final night, sharing what you do have, and it's still like it was. It seems like a misunderstanding, but it isn't..that simple.

  • @TheAlysheba well said. it is one of the worst emotions known to mankind. has nothing to do with death and destruction...more along the lines of a total loss. fortunately the human mind is resilient and recovers fairly quickly from something like that.

  • @Crest7878 Absolutely true and well said.. So simple, but no one had thoughts of this until Bonnie.. You feel like saying "yeah, that's exactly how I feel, why didn't I think of this?" You can't make the heart feel what it won't...don't patronize..perfection! So very true for many people and the pain of rejection is so difficult to understand, sometimes..The rest of the lyrics are the frosting on the cake.. Beautiful...

  • @Crest7878 Very well articulated!! Blessings

  • A very good piano man with Bonnie!
