Zhuge Liang knew Guan Yu had to be the last to ambush Cao Cao because he knew his code of honour would require him to let Cao Cao pass. It was all part of his plan to create the Three Kingdoms. If he had killed Cao Cao, then Wu and Shu would have turned on each other and Shu was in no state to stand on its own against Wu at that point.

Liu Bei's forces were still vastly inferior to Sun Quan's at that moment. Had Cao Cao died the Shu+Wu alliance would've ended immediately since Zhou Yu saw Liu Bei as a threat and wanted him dead.

Cao Cao is blessed with unyielding loyalty even though Cheng Yu and Xun You were upset when Guo Jia was still favouritised even after his death. i too will lament the loss of Guo Jia too.

Cao Cao 's failure in Chi Bi main reason:

-over confident after gain a lot of victory in last battle & gain many army.

-Cao Cao & his advisors not fully understand enemy 's characteristic such as Huang Gai Zhou Yu(example,Huang Gai 's level loyal to Sun Ce)

- easy believe enemy

I am sure Guo Jia can stop this all because he understand enemy 's characteristic (example :understand Sun Ce is frivolous unready,impulsive & shallow with only reckless courage(ROTK EPISODE 20 (PART 3 OF 5))

@jangofett333 Guo Jia was one of the Cao Cao early advisors, alongside Xun Yu, Cheng Yu and Xun You. Throughout the Civil War years to the Unification of the North, Guo Jia greatly aided Cao Cao in his conquest, always giving good advice, the advice that helped Cao Cao defeat opponents like Li Jue, Guo Si, Yuan Shu, Lu Bu, Yuan Shao, and the Yuan brothers. Guo Jia was like a close brother to Cao Cao.

guo jia is slightly better than zhou yu and sima yi and a little worse than zhuge liang in plotting and planning military strategies and playing mind games. I think guo jia is the only one that Cao cao thinks is better than himself among all his advisors. As you can see, when cao cao said hes crying for guo jia, cheng yu doesnt look very happy cos he advised cao cao before about the potential dangers of locking boats together but cao cao didnt listen to him. Hes jealoused.

Yes, he would. Guo Jia's level of intelligence can be almost on par with Zhuge Liang. Maybe even better than Zhuge Liang.

@dx4lyf1 Well, you can really see from earlier Episodes of Rotk, that Guo Jia's intelligence helped Cao Cao to defeat many powerful enemies like Zhang Xiu, Lu Bu, Yuan Shao

@dx4lyf1 Gua Jia was one of Cao Cao's most valued advisers. He planned the flood attack on Xia Pi against Lu Bu and orchestrated the defeat of Yuan Shang and Yuan Xi.

@LordMaChao176 I do agree with you. But we dont have true known knowledge on Guo Jai like we have on Zhuge. We dont know if he knows anything at all about sea battle. But i gotta say, Guo was a big help to Cao Cao, and he probably would be here as well.

@KingBowser2008 Oh yes, majority of his career was spent on Cao Cao's land battles. But never at sea. After all, Naval warfare is much different from Land warfare

I don't get it. Why did Zhuge Liang want to kill Guan Yu? Didn't he realize what kind of great asset he was?

Or did Zhuge Liang intend to let Guan Yu go free, humbled and/or grateful? In that case, why does he make a hand motion as to ignore everybody's begging, and only orders the lictors back once his master Liu Bei kneels in front of him? Is he that vain?

guan yu letting cao cao free is part of zhuge liang's plan, thus he expected this to happen. but he doesnt want to let guan yu and others know that he purposely arrange guan yu to guard the last line of ambush and knowing he will let cao cao free cos of sympathy. he expected liu bei would come begging him so he just ignores everyone and wait for liu bei to come beg him and then let guan yu free.(push the blame and responsibility of obeying military pledge to liu bei)

Guan Yu serve Cao Cao and Zhuge Liang know that. when he command guan yu to attack Cao Cao and kill him he know Guan Yu will not kill him cause Guan Yu not forget Cao Cao generus... etc. So he want to be sure that Guan Yu will not have any good thinking about Cao Cao. it's a zhuge Liang and Liu Bie tric.

@Sprachprofi Zhuge Liang was waiting for Liu Bei to beg for Guan Yu's life, so that Guan Yu will feel even more grateful for Liu Bei. He wanted to give the credit to Liu Bei, not to the others or even to himself. Zhuge Liang's goal is to strengthen the brothers' bond even more.

Yeah..and but though Zhang ZiBu was not a good advisor, he was indeed a senior advisor of Eastern Wu. Anyway..yup.., those 4 can be considered as talents for Eastern Wu...
