  • Johann (Voice of Darth Vader): Carl, I am your FATHER!!!!!!!!!!

  • Aw the speech bubbles are so cute :D

  • 0 dislikes :)

  • @Sviolinist Do you know why? I feel like if he's a transitional composer, between baroque and classical, then why don't period performers play his music in the tuning of the time? Or was the tuning of the time still 415?

  • typically our dear CPE!!

  • A quand une intégrale ?

  • What harpsichord is the one playing? French perhaps?

  • @UKpatriot90 no german,haas.

  • @TheGravicembalo Thanks!

  • Qué magnifica música componía este gran maestro!

  • Does anybody know why this is being played in Baroque tuning? Is that standard procedure even for a classical composer?

  • @dbrcarson Yes, it is standard procedure, even for a classical composer. CPE Bach isn't exactly a Classical composer, though. I would say he is right in between Baroque and Classical. Some of his music has Classical elements, but not quite Classical. I don't think anyone will argue that.

  • Hermosooo!!!

  • Hermosooo!!!

  • Does anyone know what tuning system is used for the harpsichord in this recording? As a person with ears adjusted to 12 tone equal temperament tuning, I am hearing a slight dissonance, especially when the harpsichord is playing solo on this piece, and I am really liking it. It's almost like hearing music for the first time again.

Then again, I suppose it's possible that I'm just not adjusted to the timbre of the harpsichord's overtones.

  • This is some great, great concerto music. I love it! Nice going Emmanuel.

  • incredible.... so strong, shows alot of vitality....

  • Just curioused: what does Allegro Spanyi mean?

  • @Ch3ckm4t3 "Spanyi" is, I guess, the Harpsichord player. True? Love, Esmeralda.

  • @Esmeraldaviolin Yes, the harpsichordist is Miklos Spanyi. He's engaged in two massive recording projects, both of C.P.E. Bach's music. The first is all the solo keyboard music: hundreds of pieces many are multi-movement sonatas. He's playing different clavichords in that series. He's up to 20 volumes. The second is all the keyboard concertos. C.P.E. Bach wrote about 70. He's at 21 volumes and plays various harpsichords, tangent pianos and fortepianos. Strongly recommended!

  • @mostlyclassics Do you know anything about Concerto Armonico? I read a little bit about them, and it looks like they're a student orchestra. But they're fantastic! Except that may only be on this recording. I heard them on another of the C.P.E. Bach Keyboard Concerto volumes, and it doesn't sound nearly as good.

Who are they? Doesn't look like they have any other music out on CD.

  • @dbrcarson Concerto Armonico seems to be one of Hungary's best original instruments ensemble and has an extensive discography, some out of print. Don't mistake them for Concerto Armonico Freiburg, which is a German semi-professional (but usually very good) chamber orchestra. In addition to them playing in the first half or so of Spanyi's CPE Bach concertos project, I have them doing JC Bach symphonies (best Op. 6 #6 I have!) and Mozart's opera "Ascanio in Alba," K.111. Worth searching out.

  • @paopaomanalasan

    Yes of course, who else?

  • I want my wig back after you're finished being painted son.

  • He had a good teacher

  • @stargirlsusan His father?

  • Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach is without doubt one of the five great classical composers. The others: Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert.

  • @seabird22 You forgot Bach, certainly the best, Vivaldi, and Haendel.

  • excellent!! and the conversation between father and son is crack :]

  • I like the "Hello Carl", "Hello Father" bubbles that pop up. But the one coming from J.S. is pointed away from him. Just that I'd point that out.

  • Fantastyczny koncercik. Dawno nie słuchałem tak wybitnej muzyki. Wielki szacunek dla Carla Filipa.

  • That is what it's all about...if the music hits that spot in you, what more do you need.

  • I had never even heard of CPE until recently. His music blows me away. I've heard some say he is even better than Mozart. I like his music better, but don't pretend to know what it is I am listening to. It just hit me right...

  • @TravelerDiogenes

"He is the father, we are the children."

    --Mozart (speaking of Emanuel Bach)

  • @TravelerDiogenes I'd even say he's better than daddy.

  • @LiberateEireIRA

Yah? What makes you say that?

  • @gr0mithtimon CPE has more romantic expression (characteristic of sturm und drang) but without losing the contrapuntal complexity that JS Bach perfected. His melodies are just better too. Although Bach was amazing at making all these multi-voiced fugues, I find that CPE Bach's fugal subjects (and Handel's for that matter) are actually more melodically appealing than J.S. Bach's. He's fat, basically.

  • Indeed, CPE Bach rocks ;)

  • I know this is probably irreverent, has anyone notice the # 420for this piece; just a coincidence
