• Awsome vid and killer song!!! I am hoping tpo learn the basics of cob building and such to start building a house of my own this year. nAn Ambitious goal but I'm ready for a whole new life.

  • Looks fun!

  • Woah, I just got back from a cob workshop where I heard Michael Franti's music for the first time. Spooky. ;)

  • IS IT WATER-PROOF?????

You were spraying water onto it and it was soaking it all up...what will happen to the house when it rains or snows?

  • they are fine in rain and snow. the building walls are meant to breathe. this is new tech in the US, but old school in the UK.

  • I love cob dancing!

  • Cool project..I'd like to have seen more of the 2 chicks...looks like alot of fun...JAG ON!!

  • Search: Children of Sodom - Needled 24/7 on youtube!!!

  • It's *Children of Bodom* from the research I did.

  • Michael Franti the man!!!

    Thanks for your support...

  • This is awesome.Power to you and all you do.I love that song too.Who is that?

  • Nice job!

  • GOOD

  • Whats that song? Its great!!!

  • Michael Franti, my friend!

  • How did you keep the gravel from falling out of the bags if they break?

  • Your chicken coop seems awesome! Lucky Chicks!

The sand bags are made with strong "plastic" fibers but are light sensitive they would breakdown in a few months of sun light, so in any case they have to be plastered, and when they are they hold the gravel. Some builders believe the can keep their purpose for very long period of time but has never been tested due to the novelty of the technique.

    Cheers,

    j

  • Thank you Jacques. I once built a chicken shed out of cob. Stood up to some pretty heavy rain for quite a few years with minimal damage.

The hole that the mud came out of made a great water hole for the chickens too.

Nice video and the wall in the background looks great.

    Kindest regards,

    Andrew Cavanagh

  • This is a great video. What are the foundations made of?

  • Hey,

The fondation is rocks in a 1 foot tranch, and the white sand bags are filled with gravel, to avoid using the "bad" concrete.

    Cheers thanks for the comment!

    Jacques

  • old tyres filled with gravel make a great foundation also.

  • Great to see some cob on YouTube; thanks for the mini-tutorial. Cob-power!
