  • They had Pembantu / Babu, lol! Some things never change ^^

  • I saw the "B" letter at the number of car sign. Did the film take in Jakarta? Where had this place really taken?

  • Menteng I'd say. In any case it must be around Central Jakarta as back then the city hadn't exanded this far south.

  • Wow, a precious documentary. Thank you for sharing!

  • Interesting, where did they live in Indonesia back then ?

  • its more lovely by music illustration with indonesian folk music, like gamelan or suling.. try it!

  • If you go to Ngawi, East Java, certain corners of the town still have this kind of ambience. In which town was this footage taken, if I may ask?

  • Were there many Germans in Indonesia during the Dutch colonial time there?

  • I don't know if there were Germans in Dutch Indonesia but there were many Germans in South Africa

  • Not sure but there were Germans in the time of the Dutch Cape Colony in today South Africa.

  • People of German descents comprised the second most europeans who lived in East Indies then. However, according to law most of them gained dutch citizenship. There were prominent persons who had German blood/nationality, i.e. Junghuhn, Reinwardt, Walter Spies, and Ernest Douwes Dekker.

  • love the video

    very peaceful

  • very nice footage! i have a few relatives who were in knil and merechaussee before the 1945 independence, and i always wonders how was it to live back in the colonial era... thanks for sharing :)

  • Thanks for sharing. I'm an Indonesian, but the Colonial era fascinates me because it's such a mystery to me. I always wondered what it was like living in that era.

  • Look up "Batavia 1939", it could answer some of your questions

  • the dutch should bever have left. it's all gone to the dogs now

  • it's already 250 years already

  • well this will be lightly different story, but my great grandfather was in KNIL as a mechanic. My grandma was married to the local royal blood. my mother married the local engineer, so technically I would be 1/4 dutch. :) I speak no dutch other than what has become Indonesian vocabulary like as, rem koelkas, knekker, oom, tante, oma, opa, etc

  • well..well, if you are a girl, you'd be an "indo", usually very beautiful girl!!

  • I speak, but will not write, Lingala, Kikongo, Swahili and Kinyarwanda.

  • its very amazing u know soooo many languages as i know your age in your subscribe.well done. btw how old r u actually..

  • I grew up as a white boy in a colony and I have been very happy there. I am very proud of it and I do not have the slightest remorse.

  • For the one onthe movie, yes those where the days...

without any post-colonial anti-western sentiment: for the other part of the populoation, those where not the days...

  • ah those were the days look at the country now!
