I heard Chris had no other choice but to change his singing style. He majorly screwed up his voice singing like he did for years. So he was told, change your technique or you may not be able to sing at all one day. So he can't go as deep or scratchy as he used to. Agree definitely preferred his voice from Through Being Cool and Stay What You Are...but still think he's amazing.

@Dan8118 C#m, B, A, E... that's really it... their live stuff is at least a half step down cause he can't hit those notes anymore... the tab on ultimate-guitar is pretty right on.. the only funky part is right before the chorus... where he's playing like just the 1st fret on the D string then to the 2nd fret. And the picking in the 2nd verse is just arpeggiating the chords

i think its changed for the better. We've all grown up, so why shouldn't our music. I think he has a stronger, more mature voice. I dont think i could continue to listen to high school voiced songs over and over. You have MTV for that. Chris still kills it. End of story.

I remember seeing them at the Manville Elks lodge in jersey and being like, "whose this little kid dancing around and singing?" I'm not a scientist or anything, but from what I understand when your balls drop your voice gets a pinch deeper.
