why are the classical guitar players always left out of the top 100 guitarists?? i mean they include MacLaughlin and Paco in the top 100. are they better or what???
@heavyrules6699 Because the people who make the top 100 guitarist lists are elitist assholes. Hendrix is always number one, never mind Segovia, or other virtuosos like Alex Lifeson, John Petrucci, Jason Becker, or Joe Pass.
sheracad is so completely right. @Flatted357 my dear idiot moron friend what progression are you talking about here ? you comparing hendrix to bach ? really ? is that what you're doing ? from one Bach's prelude you could make about 100 van stinkin halen songs you ignorant fool.
@Flatted357 Lmao. I-IV-V-I? In the key of E major, the chords would be E major, A major and B major. Unless you have found some new way to simplify the harmonic complexity of Bach to 3 chords, you should learn some more theory before you write. This is Segovia, well past his prime and even then, he's done more for the guitar than all of the aforementioned names combined. You should audition with some "Purple Haze" at Peabody Conservatory nah mean son?
Does anyone have a clue where I can find a guitar tab of this piece in E, the way Segovia plays it? Everywhere I go, the only tabs I can find are in C.
And God said let there be good music through guitar for people to enjoy, and there was Segovia! .If you listen to the audio alone its difficult to believe that theres only one man playing.
I have the transcription for this in E by Andres Segovia but it starts with a bar at the 4th fret and just dosent seem to be as flowing as what the man plays here himself. And from this video he's not at the 4th fret as in the sheet. Has anyone any insite into this particular transcription that he's playing?
Ora so con certezza che al mondo esistono "almeno" 31 idioti certificati: quelli che hanno fatto 'pollice verso' a questo capolavoro. Stendiamo un pietoso velo sulla loro disperata condizione: per loro non c'è alcuna speranza!
Bach is so good, ans Sgovia plays it the wonderfully. awesome!!! Just the mix of two very God blessed men of different times brought together by one's compostion. The guitar so small to the piano yet, Segovia makes it sound so big. good post.
@damanfrom808 Your so right on all your comments. One time after finishing my guitar lesson had the privledge of standing next to and hearing such beauty, classical guitarist playing Bach!!!
@toasts7 And also Bach was all about GOD. all of his work was for GOD"S Glory!!! That's why his work stands just like the Holy Bible..The grasses wither but GOD's word stands forever.
Would it be too late for me to become a classical guitarist? i already play electric guitar and lolly i can play hard death metal songs technical wise. and i know about emotion because of black metal lol. i just need to learn how to read notes, right hand finger technique and more about classical guitar it self...
o and if anyones interested in my oneman band project please do see it. /watch?v=Nh1V_PBjTss
@BMSiren yeah, you can, i started on steel string acoustic, then got an electric guitar, THEN i found a teacher for classical guitar (because its really hard to start classical on your own, you need a lot of discipline to read the technical aspects of it in the books) but the hardest part is definitely reading the notes, at least thats what i found.
@jdouglas9494 I can relate. I just started music composition in college at age 38. Learning to read music has been a muther fracker! But I had an epiphany after struggling with it for 2 and 1/2 years. A trick that I learned that has greatly helped me is to read the interval distance from the root note, NOT the note itself. So if Im playing in the key of E, I find all of my "E"s on the staff, then all of the other notes are some interval distance from E. I hope this helps, PEACE!
Rest in the knowledge that Segovia is the master, and the dislike votes come from nothing more than contrarians doing what they do best. The best thing to do is to ignore them.
What you are seeing is the Newton of the guitar. A man who invented a new way to play and rewrote the book on what was humanly possible, a man who saw so far into music and his instrument that it took decades for the rest of the world to catch up. @NoFearOfGod --- I was fortunate enough to see & hear him perform 3 different time when I went to Kent State University ! There aren't really any words that I can think of to give justice to those opportunities I had except to thank God for allowing me to have been born when I was & to be WHERE I was when he played ! I used to watch his " Master's Class " on PBS on a old 19" black & white TV in my parents basement, but I had hooked it up to our old MONSTER-piece-of-furniture stereo in the 60's !
@NoFearOfGod Segovia was not the first great guitarist, there were many others before him with such skill. he is credited with bringing the classical guitar to the big stage.
What do you know about midrange, TELEdude1? I'm guessing you're a tele player, so go beat off to your ear-liquefying treble while I listen to some beautiful "midrangey" Segovia
why can't people dislike something?? what's the freakin big deal? Just give people space to breathe and make a choice on what they want to listen to. That's why we have freedom of speech here. They're not harming anyone by not liking a piece of music. It's when they get berated for trying new music and forming an opinion that doesn't make any sense.
Someone may 'dislike' it simply because the music does not turn them on. They may have no clue about guitar playing skill. They just are not turned on by classical guitar and that's their right. I don't think that anyone can argue with his skill level on the guitar,he is widely recognized as a music legend. However, that doesn't mean everyone has to listen to his music 24 hrs per day either. Have you ever heard the saying, "no one size fits all"? Music listening is totally subjective.
I'm thinking back when I was a child taking guitar and he would come on The Ed Sullivan Show. Three times my mother woke me up to see him play. She never did that for any other musician? And I would sit there watching a monaural, black & white TV, aghast in the perfection of his talent.
Does anybody have the Segovia recording of the Courante from this suite, BWV 996? It does not seem to be available anymore. Segovia's recording of the e min suite's Courante is the only one I've heard that is at the right tempo. I will explain why if somebody can post it !
@earcandy1231 I think all those stupid brainless comments would disappear if Youtube would hide the number of dislikes and only keep the ratings bar to show the ratio of likes and dislikes. Even better but more drastic would be to add an optional hide button for all comment sections. It would discourage people from copying things from other videos just to get attention they should be searching for in real life. People might even be able to concentrate on the videos again.
What a beautiful song, I almost go the tears, I can not stop listening, fresh air into my life, Andrès Segovia thanks for letting us hear this song played in your own hand.
This video has probably never been disliked, this video was uploaded in '07, which means it spend a good couple of years under the star system, so if anyone voted it 4 stars or under at all during that period it got added to the calculated average of something probably like 4.8/4.9 stars, which got transferred over to a ratio of like:dislike leaving many thousand "likes" and a few dislikes".
This may sound overthought and sad, it's just I'm really sick of "x people missed the like button" posts
I like his sound, and guitar; he just makes it singing or whistle ! He had an original approach to the work of Bach the first and only ''Segovia'' odds sound !
Fantastic. I had the privilege of attending one of his performances many years ago. Thank you for posting this. I enjoy the recordings but it's nice to have a visual.
@DaMetalBeast Maybe because the dislike button are so close to the another, or maybe, when i was young i listened to segovia, and to be honest, at that time i couldn't understand his music, maybe for many person is not dificult to understand, is beautifull and you just need to hear it to know what wonderful that can be, but for another maybe is not so easy, thank of God now i can listen and say Beautiful!
@DaMetalBeast maybe because they expected dolby soround and hd 1080p quality..or maybe because they dont understand this is the guy who made guitar mostly popular.
I have played guitar for years - mostly electric and accoustic. Took some classical guitar lessons - it is the HARDEST form of guitar to master - the finger picking is a real challenge. Segovia is a MASTER and a Genius.
perfecto! really touched my heart! segovia is such an underrated guitarist! Im a big rock fan and usually listen to english and american music. but i wish that then people make best guitarist lists they wouldnt just include british/american rock guitarists.

@earcandy1231, I dislike the dislikes!
guitarslim56 6 months ago in playlist Andres Segovia
@earcandy1231 I think all those stupid brainless comments would disappear if Youtube would hide the number of dislikes and only keep the ratings bar to show the ratio of likes and dislikes. Even better but more drastic would be to add an optional hide button for all comment sections. It would discourage people from copying things from other videos just to get attention they should be searching for in real life. People might even be able to concentrate on the videos again.
Great video, thank you

@markus0neill
Only guitarists like Batio's music, when everybody likes Segovia's music.

dvadesettochka20 10 months ago
@DaMetalBeast Maybe because the dislike button are so close to the another, or maybe, when i was young i listened to segovia, and to be honest, at that time i couldn't understand his music, maybe for many person is not dificult to understand, is beautifull and you just need to hear it to know what wonderful that can be, but for another maybe is not so easy, thank of God now i can listen and say Beautiful!

I have played guitar for years - mostly electric and accoustic. Took some classical guitar lessons - it is the HARDEST form of guitar to master - the finger picking is a real challenge. Segovia is a MASTER and a Genius.
socalsun7 1 year ago
@socalsun7 i think finger picking is easier than learning the quick chord changes and difficult chord shapes in classical

perfecto! really touched my heart! segovia is such an underrated guitarist! Im a big rock fan and usually listen to english and american music. but i wish that then people make best guitarist lists they wouldnt just include british/american rock guitarists.
