  • Lucy & Desi were both good ppl & have done good things in their lives. They always loved each other no matter what/

  • Just b/c Desi did some bad things doesn't mean he was a bad or mean person. He was a good guy & he was so sweet & soft he was sweet to Lucy. Some say Lucy was mean but it doesn't mean she was always mean. I've read somewhere someone knew her & said she was a giving & caring person & loyal.

  • i hate them being divorced & married to other ppl i wish this never happened. I wish we could go back in time & change it & they be married forever. They always loved each other no matter what.

  • workaholism.

  • Yeah she was tough on the Lucy Show, she was so mean to Joan Blondell, Joan in front of the studio audience said "Fuck you Lucille Ball"... what a shame she couldn't learn to relax.

  • this makes me sad, it seems like such a tragedy in the end

  • is this from the biography channel???

  • It is so sad. I didn't think they were bad mouthing their mother either. Actually, I felt there was a lot of compassion and sadness and that they knew they were loved just that their mother's drive to succeed was so overpowering and there just wasn't room to be the mother that they wished she was.

  • Lucy was a born entertainer. What other people put first in line (their marriage, children) weren't as important as her. She was never as happy as when she was doing what she loved.

  • Hi, may I know the title of this documentary please? Thanks! :)

  • @Iggieee Lucy and Desi- the Home movies. Made in the 1990's by their Daughter Lucie Arnaz.

  • My moms cousin met Lucille Ball on a plane she was a flight attendant and said she was really rude and that she wouldn't talk to my moms cousin she said servants talk to servants so it makes sense to see this. I'm still a huge fan of Lucy though I'm sure the fame and all that was hard on her.

  • who is that lady with red hair being inteviewed? no not lucy ball the other one

  • @Crys24 Carol Cook.

  • thanks for the post!

  • i just adore them. I was sad to find out that Lucy wasn't the Lucy we saw on tv. I still love her regardless. But the way they describe her...really makes sense. You can tell that she was very off and on...

  • This is really sad :( Desi and Lucy forever

  • How many siblings does Lucy have?

  • Whoa 0.0

  • How come you ever filmed this didn't get the focus right? It's such an informative/fascinating Bio. Thank you for posting this! :-)

  • Did Madeline Pugh have an affair with Desi? I read somewhere they did.. This amazing couple even made the headlines when they divorced over the Cuban Missile situation! That is how popular and Important America felt they were. They are really Genius together and a part.

  • Gosh..this is heart breaking!! I'll never watch the show in the same way again!

  • This is incredibly sad...maybe you should put a disclaimer on this video warning people that this will burst their "I Love Lucy" bubble. I never really knew this about Lucille (at least not to this extent)...and I didn't know Lucie felt that way about her mother.

"So, they made this show that took off like 'Gangbusters', and now the rest of the universe has it...and they never had it. They never got what they wanted." -Lucie Arnaz

    ...how incredibly sad...

  • This documentary aired on NBC in the mid 1990s... it was called Lucy & Desi: A Home Movie.

  • what a sad ending

  • Anybody have the whole documentary?

  • and for all you people who say that it was all just an act it wasn't an act b/c you can tell they loved each other so much much on the show. also i think it's the most obvious in season 2 during the pregnancy episodes, especially in "lucy is eciente" (sp?) when desi sings "we're having a baby, my baby and me" to lucy. you can very easily see their love for each other, especially since their both crying with happiness. either that or that's the best acting i have EVER seen in my life.

  • OMG I feel so bad for lucy and desi!! the thing that they thought would save their marriage and allow them to have a family (i guess it did for a while) was the thing that pulled them apart in the end. now i'm gonna feel super guilty the next time i watch a show other than ILL that they produced b/c i know that their marriage was torn apart by the pressures of running desilu studios just so they could let the world watch a 30 minute episode of some series. and i am right there with 4everdarling

  • Thats what hapens with divorce. The children feel pressured to take a side and it seems in this case that the kids took their fathers side and shared his resentment of their mother.

  • Why does it seem like the kids are dissing their mother? Are they jealous of their mothers fame?

  • evadanca777 - Lucie and Desi Jr. are not DISSING their mother. If you listened to what Lucie, Desi Jr.,many family friends, and employees ALL said Lucy's work came first. Not her children, not her marriage, her work. They are not jealous of their mother's fame, they are likely hurt because they were NOT her priority when they were children, and therefore, missed out on the feelings of having a mother.

  • They looked so cute on the I Love Lucy show..

If you, like me, didn't know they were married you would've probably guessed it by watching the show..

It's hard to take in that their marraige ended I mean it seemed like they were doing a great job on camera..

I guess it was all just an act...

    Near the end I mean...

    Still love both of them!!

  • I do not like the last one because the first time I saw it I cryed and fet very sad for Lucy and Desi because they wanted it to work so much

  • This video is an eye opener. For any Lucy fan to think she was perfect in everyway just because they refuse to believe anything negative about her, is very naive. Lucy had her own flaws just like we all have. Love you Lucy!

  • Lucy was an incredible comedienne, but she had her faults. She was no prize to live with, but then, neither was Desi. I believe they truly loved each other, but their faults were too many to overcome. Desi's alcoholism and gambling addictions especially made it impossible for anyone to stay married to him. As she aged, Lucy became bossy, unemotional, even hard. It was a tough road for both. Life and the pressures of success essentially ruined these people and their relationship.

  • everybody has a different side of their life that hardly anyone ever sees...I believe that they still loved each other though out the rest of their lives and they probably still do now.

  • Okay, No offense, I Am A HUGE LUCY FAN..but This makes her look like a bad person, and she wasn't she was an amazing person!!!!

  • Lucie and her brother are the only two persons to know and linving the thrue.

  • LUcille ball was a great women...i wish a ha the chance to meet her but when she died i was born until like another 20 years which is kind of sad.......

  • Willie Mae (sp?) was with Lucy from the time Lucy was new in the business. Sad to hear Lucie say they were never as happy with their children, etc. than when they were working. I would venture to say it had to do with the fact that when they were home, they were in an unhealthy marriage...nothing to do with the kids.

  • I don't think they really spent time with their kids, and when they did, they struggled to deal with the responsibility.

  • I hope they are together in heaven too. I also wish they could have made their marriage work. So sad.

  • i cried after this. its so sad but i believe they are together now in heaven.... finally at peace

  • I almost cry everytime I think about the divorce. Especially when Lucy said "Kids......it's too late..."

  • @4EverDarling Wow me too...

  • i love lucy so so so much

  • this makes me sad at the end

  • desi is the reason they owned there own studio and he also instituted the three camera angle that they still use today. give the guy some credit. she was the talent he was the business guy.

  • Actually, it was LUCY that insisted on Desi getting top billing. CBS didn't want Desi on TV at all because he was Cuban and felt "nobody would understand him"

  • I guess that everyone who was a fan of I love Lucy wished that they had gotten back together, it's sad that they didn't. Seeing Desi with another woman and Lucy with another man just seems really wrong.

  • I don't think that they were ever really as happy as they were when they married.

  • so did desi ever cheat on lucy?

  • Yes he did, but I wouldn't put the blame all on him for them breaking up. They had a lot of problems.

  • who did he cheat on lucy with?

  • everyone lol

  • Awesome! xx

  • how can all these people criticize the arnaz/ball family for their perceptions on their mother and father?

They lived through it, not us.

We don't know what really went on.

Lucie and Desi Jr. know how they were really like behind the scenes, because they were there.

Which was the whole point to the "behind the scenes" video.

  • LOL lucy's mom and nearly every other women has red hair like lucy did..all except the servant aka nanny

  • I don't know if you saw the documentary but Lucie was definitely not a bitch. this was the most beautiful and real documentary i have ever seen. the main reason why Lucie even chose to make it was because she was trying to defend her parents from all of the demeaning and false stories and films made about them.

  • i DON'T KNOW WHAT U R TRYING TO TELL ME BUT LUCY IS MY IDOL!!!!!

  • SAME HERE!!!!!!!

  • i also don't like that red-headed chick bad mouthing Lucy..she's dead..how about u let her rest in peace

  • All of the people in the documentary were close family friends, and family members of Lucy and Desi. No one bad mouthed anyone in it. All of them were telling their personal experiences with them. This was an amazing documentary. Lucie did a phenomenal job in bringing out the truth in Lucy and Desi's lives, something she wanted to discover on her own after all of the negative and false accusations made against them.

  • That red haired woman said Lucy was incapable of being a good mother, thats not the best complement.

  • well that was her close friend. she appeared on several episodes of here's lucy and the lucy show. lucy was the maid of honor at her wedding. i think she would know if lucy spent time with her kids or not.

  • i don't like lucy's daughter.

  • the used-to-be-hearthrob desi jr has gotten chunky

  • oh but that's the way it is! everybody who's gotten big become big-headed, bitches and snobs , duh!!!

  • don't really believe what these bitches say.

they can be exagerated and based on their own perceptions only...but most of all these bitches just got to have somethin to say for this documentary!!

  • It really is sad that Lucy and Desi divorced.

but If they were not happy then it was a good thing. But the kids werent happy Lucy was a good mother because she provided for them yes she wasnt really taking care of them but if she didnt find servants then the kids wouldnt of been cared for.She was a well loved women and I hope she rests in peace.FUCK YOU ALL WHO SAY NASTY NEGATIVE THINGS ABOUT HER TO! I would of been proud of her and Desi for there hard efforts to pull the family together.

  • Even though her daughter expressed herself as her mom not really being there...I believe there is no such thing as a perfect parent, Shit I don't care how much she worked I would've been damm proud of her.

  • uh...she made a point of saying that there are no perfect families in the documentary

  • What documentary is this from and who's the red-headed lady who seems to be interviewing or talking to Lucy and Desi jr's? I'd love to get it and see the entire thing.

  • This is from "Lucy and Desi: A Home Movie" put together by their kids in the early nineties. I think the red haired lady is a family friend.

  • the truth is sad. One of my good friends was actually on the show many times, she played one of Lucy's girlfriends in the Wednesday Afternoon Fine Arts League episodes. It's sad to hear that in real life Desi and Lucy would fight with each other, get drunk, etc.

She will always be missed and loved.

  • Desi was a machista, a typical hispanic man who grew up with different morals. The show in many ways portrayed his ideals where the woman had to clean and wash and do as she was told. Typical hispanic man full of machismo.

  • Typical hispanic man?....wow....educate yourself

  • I am educated, have you been to college, probbably not.

And yes I do know what I'm talking about.

  • Watching thousands of youtube videos does not constitute an education. Don't bother replying because you'll further prove just how uneducated you are.

  • don't bother replying? uh stop being the pot. I don't need to justify myself to you, so fuck off in the first place Karen Cunt Walker.

  • ha u just proved his point..moron

  • whatever loosers

  • ur making the arguring on here worse

  • 1st of all the last comment was posted over 3 months ago, long forgotten

2nd of all, I really don't give a damn what people write to me or about me because bottom line they're a bunch of knuckleheads living day to day high on prozac, just because Lucy portrayed a wonderful life on tv, doesn't mean she lived it in real life, because if that were the truth, why did they get a divorce in real life?

why is it so hard to believe that Desi and Lucy were not what they seemed?

  • it's like ur calling lucy and desi fake or sumthin and that's not nice.

  • oh no no no, definitely not, I adore Lucy, in fact I'm watching her right now as I type this, I get up on the weekends early enough to watch I Love Lucy on TvLand and on the weekdays too. See I use to be caught up in the general consensus of what we thought her real life was like, but then I got to know actual people who worked with her, and who knew Desi, and watched several documentaries on her, and unfortunately it WAS all an act. Watch the movie "Lucy and Desi Before the Laughter"

  • hav u saw that movie?

  • have I seen that movie, of course

  • do u hav it on dvd or sumthin

  • they have it on Amazon and/or Barnes and Noble, I saw it a few years back on PBS and they also aired it on CBS as part of a tribute to Lucy, it was actually made back in the 80's before she passed away, so she played herself, and Desi was portrayed by his son, it shows the autobiographical life of Lucy and Desi during the time they were producing I Love Lucy, they show their ups and downs just like what I've been talking about

  • wait....... i went to amazon and lucy is played by frances fisher

  • okay

  • y r u so mean?

  • I'm not mean, I just abhor ignorant people

  • im not ignorant

  • yes u r

  • what the fuck! i dont go on ur comments and reply!

  • actually u have

  • leave him alone

  • I REALLY THINK U SHOULD GO AWAY BECAUSE us Lucy Fans DONT WANT A MUTHER FUCKIN LUCY HATER ON HERE GET A LIFE AND STOP COMMENTING AND RESPECT LUCY MORE!

  • NICE FREAKING STATEMENT!~!!

  • YOU'RE not ignorant, and I'm not being mean to you, all those other people who have posted all those stupid remarks against me, assuming Lucy lived a wonderful life r the ignorant ones

  • it's amazing how its so hard for many of us to accept the realities in people, like for example, and I know this is off topic, did you know that Matrin Luther King wasn't even born with the name Martin, he was given the name Michael, he changed his name to Martin to be more Christian-like like the Martin Luther who founded protestantism, secondly, he borrowed the I have a Dream speech from another evangelical who had spoken it 20 years earlier, he was a drunk, a womanizer, a beater too

  • *Martin btw

he lived a life much like many other men before he became a born-again christian. But see my point is that we depend so much on what we see on tv, what we hear in the news, what popular culture tells us to think, but there is always a hidden underlying truth to everything we know, Desi was a handsome, womanizing, drunkard, what kind of behavior would you expect in a man who was like that, and MLK was just another man who took the spotlight, read Coretta Scott King's autobiography

  • another example, you know that comedian Carlos Mencia,ok it's been proven that he has stolen and plagiarized many, many of the jokes he tells in his acts, in fact he makes fun of Hispanics, but it turns out he's like only a quarter hispanic, he's more German than anything else, and he's jewish, yet he's always talking about growing up going to catholic churches and stuff like that, at the moment I forget his real name, but trust me, it sounds nothing at all like a Hispanic name, like Carlos Mencia

  • yeah you're right tedbug Carlos Mencia's real name is Ned Holness and he's always making mexican jokes about his mexican upbrining and mexican peoples, and he's not even mexican, he's like half honduran and half german, MLK Jr, yup that's also true, I learned about that from an African American history teacher at USC where I attended, and yeah, I've also watch documentaries about Lucy and Desi, it's true what you said, Desi was a beater, a drunk, and he cheated on Lucy numerous times

  • I've watched 1,700+ videos and that constitutes as 'thousands'? gawd are you fucking pathetic!!

  • since when did desi ever beat lucy? yeah he was unfaithful and became an alcoholic but it was never reported that he hit her. she was so serious she would never stand for that. if anything Lucy reportedly knocked him out cold by hitting him on the head with a hammer and would throw things at him. they both had a lot of problems but they still managed to be really close at the end of it all. none of their personal problems should take away from both of their brilliance.

  • Keep your opinions,

I know real, actual, living cast members of the show, I know people who worked with Desi Arnaz and who knew him as he really was. If you truly believed that Lucy and Desi lived a happy harmonious life, because after all that's what you saw on television, then explain to us why they divorced? Why they would have angry tirades on the very set where they filmed the show, why Desi was abusive husband.

Stop living vicariously through a television show, because that's all it was

  • All their hard work did pay off in the way of it being, still to this day, the greatest TV show of all time. I really can't say that any show compares to "I Love Lucy"...but in the end, it was just a show. And who can know what really happened except the people who were there.

  • thank you stillnerdy, I'm not here to lessen the notable, incredible, talented stars they were, but unfortunately what's portrayed on tv doesn't necessarily portray real life. People should watch "Lucy and Desi Before the Laughter", it's a film depicting the actual lives on Desi and Lucy

  • just so you know tedtug their daughter lucie said that the movie "lucy and desi before the laughter" was a highly inaccurate film about them. that's the reason she made "lucy and desi a home movie" so that people would know the truth about them.

  • thanx for your reply from my comment I posted a year ago.......

anyways, if you had read all my comments you would have seen that I get my resources from actual people who worked and knew the Arnaz family, I don't need to base my opinions on movies.

  • you attended Yale.............

ok give me your address and I'll send you a packet of magic beans

  • attend not attended and stup being such a dick

  • you're the one being a dick assuming that your opinions are more valid just because you ATTEND Yale (what's the point of your adding that to this convo, little insecurity?)

    so?

and its S T O P, not stup Mr. Yale

look my comments are not meant to appease anyone, particularly not you, and most people object to my comments because they disagree with their perceptions of Lucy's real life, so they disagree with me and attack me first, who's being the dick?

    just ignore me

  • i miss lucy

  • sad they looked so in love
