Dare I say, this movie is fantastic? Its humor is certainly not “someone farted, that’s funny”, perhaps that’s why many people loath it. I’m not trying to sound like an elitist at all, but we can agree that modern comedies are photocopies.

They did the research nicely. MacNicol definitely studied Dwight Frye’s Renfield.

I’m not a comedy lover, but this gets an 8.5. I surely recommend it if you are sick of the pretentious Hollywood of today that feeds garbage to their audience.

thanks for posting this film,I am a big fan of Mel Brooks and this is without a doubt one of his very best. Regardless of what others may say, unless you are not familiar with intelligent, vintage, eastern european, Leslie Nelsonish type of humor, one cannot help but laugh. Next to Young Frankenstein, this films use of actors and the type of bizarre comedy mixing a horror story with humor ranks it amoung his top 3 best films. Sadly this was Mel's worst movie. It just didn't work at all. What a travesty. Even pulling out the only 8 minutes of comedy makes it look boring.
