  • My father was on HMS Indefatigable all through the Pacific and Japanese Home Island Operations and was part of the shore party that went to Hiroshima and i've inherited a large amount of prints from that time. I only discovered them after he passed away as he never spoke of the shore party, only of his time on board and ashore in Australia, New Zeland and Ceylon

  • My Grandfather served on this ship. His name was Dennis Dalton and he was the Photographer for the ship. We have a book of all the original prints at home. I recognise one of them from this. He also did a number of pictures of the crew. He also took photos of Hiroshima a couple of days after the bomb, and also of the Japanese surrendering.

  • Yes i'm sure Albert would have remembered him, he had a good memory for names & faces.

He was in a "home" for the last couple of years of his life, & I took all his photos in for him to see, wasnt sure if it was the right think to do, in case it depressed him, but it gave him a real buzz, and he chatted away to us about each photo , it brought him great pleasure.

    Thanks for posting the comments.

  • My dad, George McLelland also served on Indefatigable, unfortunately he is no longer with us to see all of this but it has "made live" so many of the stories he told us when we were growing up! Good to see at last! Also my partners dad, Bill Francis served with the MONAB 1 aircraft which linked to Indefatigable and the other carriers of the Pacific Fleet - their paths must have crossed and we never knew it until recently! Small world ......................................
