HI , very good videos. My Name is Beatriz im teaching english in Chile , individual lessons. I have a question, why do we use sometimes the expresion . I do love you. ?
@ModeloMenina That's the important thing to point out. That 'Do you got' can be heard in American slang or even overall relaxed speaking. The important thing is to know what is used informally and what is correct grammatically.
I think both expressions are used in both British and American English. I think that another difference (apart from the ones you explain) between both expressions is that "Do you have..." is more polite or formal than "Have you got..." Do you agree?
I just say "you got" like.. example: "you got any smokes?" or ""you got a pencil?" if im asking people if they have any of these things in an informal setting. im american, by the way
I dont know english. but as possibel as i want to learn english. because in my relatives are insult me, my fatherinlaw my daughters study MBA, they know englishwell,u dont english,, u study aftral Bcom so they treated iam a vast person. i study Bcom., in my mother toung.now iam in USA so i am facing problem to mingile to with others, and i need a job to do . i have a kid of 6th month. so i want to learn english at home in online. so please can u sugges me.and i want to learn vocabulary.

I find it shocking how many videos online there are that teach English in English! It's absolutely ridiculous and sad to see such an inefficient method being used in the teaching profession. How can someone who is learning the difference between such a simple basic topic as this one , ever be able to understand what you are saying, you completely contradict yourself !
I´m an English teacher in Brazil, and I´m playing your videos once a month to my students on public school here. They´re loving! I´ts someone different than me speaking to them. Thanx for your videos!!!!!
Do you got? I can't recall ever hearing this question! To me it's simply bad and incorrecet English. Where can I find examples of this construction in use!
I'm english & i have to point out! English & American is very different! Such as Tuesday. People in england say Tuesday as (chuseday) Americans Say TUesday.
So if you want to learn English, learn it from a English speaker.

Because I have a friend of mine that is an english native and likes a lot spanish and I have told him several times to help me with my english he does it sometmes but we mostly speak spanish.I speak english on my job all the time and he espends a lot

@werminy Without a doubt the influence of American English on the British is incredible! For sure these two traditionally British and American structures are starting to mix. When I saw Prince William in a recent TV interview, I nearly fell off my chair when he said 'gonna'. So here is another prime example of how 'gonna' went mainstream. You might find some Americans who use 'have you got' but I don't think it would make much difference in terms of level of formality in American society.
Hi, I have been to the United States about 3 years now. can you tell me what is the different between excuse and excusable? can you exaplain what is adverb and give a couples of it please, I don't really understand it.
Hi, my English is not the best. I know that! Therefore I do not understand that a "peppy questin" a "fast or quick question" is. Peppy means "full of verve". Who is able to explane it to me? PLEASE. GIVE ME A PEPPY ANSWER.
You will see that I have focussed on the definition of 'peppy' as something 'brisk' with 'speed' : 1. Possessing, exerting, or displaying energy: active, brisk, dynamic, dynamical, energetic, forceful, kinetic, lively, sprightly, strenuous, vigorous. See action/inaction.

Thanks, they are good and useful too,but i still like to use the correct way of using grammer ,as u said ,it is grammatical wrong when we say "do u got"??
I have aquestion, I had an exam last week and the teacher asked me
Are you done?? is it grammatical right?? or not ,if i wanna correct it i will say " have u done ?? or have u finished am I right or wrong??
I am referring to informal speech in North American English which uses 'Do you got' as a informal variation of ' Do you have' ( American) and 'Have you got ( British).

Sorry Steve but I have never, ever heard anybody ever say "Do you got," and I have been teaching in Japan for 7 years. I work with Americans, English, Canadian, Australians and New Zealanders.
hi sir steve.. my name is mark.. i am a filipino and ive been here in america for a year . yet i cant speak english pretty well. i just wana ask you to teach me how to use HAD, HAS, HAVE... please sir steve.. it confuses me a lot.. tnx sir steve... tnx so much..
In general, "have..." and "have got" (often contracted as in "I've got, you've got, he's got" are almost perfectly interchangeable phrases. I have a book = I've got a book; I have a headache = I've got a headache; etc.
As a native speaker of English, I cringe at someone trying to make sense of all the ungrammatical and poorly pronunced phrases that we use. dear teacher, i am from cambodia and your englsih teaching online is very useful for me, now I just finished Learn English with Steve-Business English 10 , and i cannot find Learn English with Steve-Business English 11,.... thanks for your help
I hope you are enjoying my videos! Business 10 is the most recent video of my Learn Englisg with Steve- Business series! I should be releasing my next Business video soon!
I would like to follow lessons with a canadian accent too, I love the variety and flexibility of english language, canadian, british, american, and australian or newzed english.
Is canadian a mix between british and US english? I found some words which are very specific to Canada as "couch" by example.
I am a very happy french man, I found another excellent teacher on the Net and Youtube.
This video arose from my experience in Brazil where there are schools which are based on British English and across the street you have schools based on American English. Imagine a student's confusion when he/she would study for one semester at the British School and then cross the street and study at the American school for the following semester. This is my job sometimes, to untangle what my student's have learned at different schools.
Thanks for the comment! We use "I DO love you" to give more emphasis to love. In grammar terminology it is called "emphatic do".
For example:
Mary: John you don't love me anymore.
John: That's not true Mary! I do love you.

@2010bettyrodriguez Good question! It's called "emphatic do". We use it to give more emphasis to a sentence:
Mary: John you don't love me anymore
John: No Mary I DO love you. ( I really love and you are wrong to say I don't love you)
I hope this helps!

In England we used to say: YOU GOT TO GO NOW when speaking fast.
But that's what Steve mentionned above:
YOU'VE GOT TO GO NOW.
But I've never heard DO YOU GOT? Sounds very awkward to me, or maybe too slangish. You'd better avoid saying that when tested in English.

Thanks a lot for your Portal.
Thank's a lot

This video arose from my experience in Brazil where there are schools which are based on British English and across the street you have schools based on American English. Imagine a student's confusion when he/she would study for one semester at the British School and then cross the street and study at the American school for the following semester. This is my job sometimes, to untangle what my student's have learned at different schools.

Steve

I see. I had some courses with different variant of English. It was confusing for me.

Not to worry!!!! Spoken like a true native would informally!!!!!!

Not to worry, so many native speakers in North America use this too. We are all in the same colloquial boat!!!!!!!
