I must say I like chubby cats. I took care of a half starved cat once and it's not a nice feeling petting one of them feeling every single bone.. sure the cat is chubby but atleast it's not like 25kilos like some people feed their cats till they can't even walk anymore by themselves. this cat can still take care of itself just needs a little bit more time, give that person a break. he actually gives the cat a warm and dry home and food while others starve or get killed outside <.<

Erm... it actually looks PREGNANT - but seeing as the original poster said in the video info "it got huge after they got it fixed", a hormone imbalance as well as inactivity post-op would likely be the culprit. Cats are self-regulating when it come to food. That's why my fiancé's parents will leave a heaping bowl of food for their cats when they leave for a week-long business trip. They eat what they want and go. They came back to a lot of food left and not-so-fat cats. :P

My cats have been on controlled portions of high-fiber food and ONLY hairball treats, and the older they get, the fatter they get. They're not going hungry, they go outside and graze and exercise, they just have metabolism that is slowing down. They never get human food or rich/fattening cat food, they're just FAT CATS. Just like some people can diet almost to death, and their metabolism never gets "right." If the cat is loved, safe, and taken care of well, leave 'em alone, "health" nazis.

Actually, they are both abusive behaviors. When you take in an animal or have a child, you accept responsibility for that life. Animals and kids do not have the same understanding that you as an adult have. A parent must take control in a situation like this. I have four cats. 3 free feed fine but the fourth will eat all day. Therefore, I don't free feed them and they are all in good health. Most people do blame the parents of a heavy child the same as they do the parents of a heavy animal.

Actually, cats & humans both have the ability to know when to stop eating. It's called feeling full.

Humans get fat because of what they eat, or bad snacking habits. Cats always eat the same thing, and they do not simply over-eat out of stupidity. Most cases of cat obesity are due to depression, lack of exercise, spaying/neutering decreasing energy needs, or thyroids.

Underfeeding your cat is never reccommended to help it loose weight. If it has a thyroid problem, you could be hurting it.

I couldn't have eaten junk if I wanted to as a kid. My treats were carrots and cucumbers. I didn't have snickers around to snack on.

Trust me, neutering does not cause obesity like this. His grandparents may think that just because he gained weight after the surgery, that it was caused by the surgery, but this is not the case. The cat needs to be put on a restricted calorie diet. I'm a veterinary nurse and deal with people every day who continue to over feed their obese animals. They are the ones who put the food in his bowl, it's entirely up to them to get him back to a normal weight, regardless of him being neutered.
