  • Gloria is so smart and eloquent. The progress in the Philippines since she's taken office is absolutely amazing!

  • She who is MAKING BIG DIFFERENCE !

And NOT a POLITICIAN but a LEADER!!

and SHE will be REMEMBERED for that..

  • verdad! ella es buena presidenta! me gusta mucho, ella trabajar mucho y muy inteligente,

    tambien, pueden hablan bueno espanol.

pagpalaain nawa ng panginoon ang ating inang bayan

  • Let me correct myself, that's actually 7.3% GDP growth rate in 2007 (not 7.1). Global credit watcher Standard & Poors (S&P) says that Philippines remains one of just five Asia-Pacific economies that is expected to grow this year (2009). Those expected to contract this year (negative growth rate) are Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia and Thailand. -Business World, May 1, 2009 issue.

  • I think President Arroyo is unfairly portrayed by our local media, they focused to much on her negative side rather than her positive achievements, with issues and allegations presented in daily news as if they are already facts.. in 2007, Phil economy grew 7.1%--the highest in 31 years! the peso is hovering back at 40ish per dollar... Phil economy is still growing in 2009 while most of its neighbors are already crashing down bcoz of the global recession..

    GO Philippines!!! =)

  • The reason is simple.

    (1) Your economy is basically "remittance economy". You make monkey by collecting from low-paying pnoy workers from all around the world. Most of pnoy workers abroad are housemaids, babysitters in rich families that are less affected by slow economy.

  • our economy is 37th largest in the world (in a list of 200; not bad; it's an NIC -Newly Industrialized Country along with Thailand and Malaysia).. GDP per capita is low because we have a 90 million population which i blame to the Catholic Church for not allowing condoms and pills. GDP breakdown: Agriculture: 13.8 %; Industry: 31.8%; Services: 54.3%--yes remittances contribute 10% of this but does not define the entire economy.

  • I don't buy your own p-fantasy. You're totally wrong.

    (1) Your GDP is 47th(IMF), 47th(World Bank) and 46(CIA), not 37th, owing to your relatively big population, just as China and India are high rankers.

    (2) Your GDP per capita is simply miserable.

    (3) With respect to your unique remittance economy, you're totally wrong. Even though the proportion is "merely" 10% of your economy. It's as big as your agricultural sector, it provides you with 'pure' cash even if your economy gets slow.

  • GDP (Purchasing Power Parity or PPP) of the Philippines is 320.38 Billion US $ - 37th in the world -wikipedia. anyway, is there something wrong with remittances? is it our problem if our relatives send us money because we have strong family ties? is it our problem that most of us speak English that's why we get hired easily? anyway, is there something wrong with Filipinos being nurses? are you belittling the nursing profession? Use my brain? how about u use some "respect"? oh..u don't have 1.

  • You don't try to see other side.

    (1) Well, you'd better learn what PPP means. It just tell you your country is cheap: basically labor cost is cheap and workers are exploited. When you change 1 dollar to Chinese yuan in the foreign-currency exchange market, you'll be given 1.5 yuans(Norminal GDP), but with 1.5 yuan, you can purchase goods and service(mostly service though based on cheap labor) that's corresponding 7 dollars worth in the States(PPP GDP).

  • Yeah, like duh, my professor from the University of the Philippines is like a graduate of Harvard University, and was the former Dept of Budget Management (DBM -Prof. Emila Boncodin). Yes, comes with cheap labor are cheap cost of living; that means instead of paying 4-5 dollars for a McDonald's burger, it costs only 1-2dollars here and that goes the same with the basic needs and commodities. That's why it is called: "PURCHASING POWER parity"

  • (1) And that's only when you spend 1.5 yuan in China, where cheap labor is available. GDP PPP just tells how living cost(in other word, labor cost is cheap) is low in a certain country, it doesn't tell how big is your economy. If you want to tell someone how big your economy is, tell him Norminal GDP at which your country is ranked 47th or something.

  • (2) Remittances can be negative, if you see it from the view point of the country where your money-sending workers and mail-ordered wives are. For them, it's a outflow of their national wealths.

    (3) I don't think you're easily hired than any other Asian people by English. You're hired easily owing to the fact that your labor is cheap. In Japan where English is needless, you are easily hired coz you're willing to work at the least wage level where most of Japanese rather don't work at all.

  • mail-ordered wives?--yes there are some who do that, but i think that's quite unfair as that is not solely limited to the Philippines alone, take a look at our neighbors (no offense meant).. Look, if America hires Filipinos and they send money to the Philippines, who is benefiting there?--"you are easily hired coz you're willing to work at the least wage level "--oh cause we are not CHOOSY and we are FLEXIBLE, unlike you who commit suicide when you lose your "HIGH-paying" jobs.

  • don't go emotional, i just tell you the truth.

  • Mail ordered wives are not confined to your country. I just want you to accept the realities and make a correction. Mail-ordered wives must damage your national image. Yes, pnoys are not CHOOSY and FLEXIBLE for some dollars. That also degrades your nationl status in the long run.

  • oh well, when your down, there's no way but up, the country has been reconsidered as an NIC-newly industrialized nation or the NEXT ELEVEN nations alongside with Malaysia and Thailand.

Say whatever you want to say, I still love my country and I work hard everyday to uplift our meager lives as you've said.. I would have not been emotional if you've been impartial and respectful with your words..cause you seem to have a lot of hate and discrimination in your heart.

  • (3) In the States as well, Japanese don't work at McDonald's where its hourly wage is less than a dollar. A dollar per hour is a big money for pinoy university graduates, but undereducated Japanese earn more than that.

    Think objectively, pnoy.

  • First, what's wrong with working for McDonald's? Don't tell me you don't eat there. and what's wrong with being baby sitters and nurses? you owe to them and entrust your babies to them while you're at work; so hey, have some RESPECT for honest and decent jobs u'll otherwise not do. Btw, all of my aunts and uncles who are university graduates work in the likes of Bank of America... managers at that.

I use to like Japanese, but I think i might reconsider. You are mean and racist , tokyosanmachan.

  • japaneese are racist especially there goverment and since there imperialistic tendecy in the past. Beside most philpinos work hard given there unfortunate circumstances

  • HEY Japaneese Imperialist stop using racial propaganda , understand the history and circumstances, Japan is ageing and ur welfare state is collapsing . Double standard of Japan wont work anymore lol

  • (3) So even though it's "only" 10%, your economy is heavily dependent on remittances. It largely define your economy, because without it, your economy can't be explained.

  • how is it "largely" defined? when it's only 10% of the "services" sector which is 50 % of the GDP.

  • If you know more about what cash or cash flow means, you'll realize the impact of the cash influx(10% of your GDP) on your economy. Use your brain.

  • (2) Your economy is too small to contract. When GDP per capita is smaller than $5,000, it's hard to be contracted by nature. Note that most of your neighbors accomplished double digit growth when their GDP per capita was similar to filippon's. 7.1%....... it's a joke. Take a look at China, they're also doing double digit growth.

  • And btw, not all are low-paying; Filipino Americans have the highest income average among all US immigrants. How about the Business Process Outsourcing industry; we've been compared to India already, and some are transferring here from there. it employs 600,000 Filipinos (who do not have to migrate for bigger pay).

  • (1) I know the poll that made me laughed. You're 2nd highest family average income, next to Indians, according to "The American Community—

    Asians: 2004". Not the highest.

    (2) I don't believe in the poll, for I've seen lots of chinks, gooks and Jews in the States who run their own businesses, while most of pnoys are low-paying employees. There are tons of chinks businessmen who drive Mercedez while they are classified into the poverty class and get some free medical services.

  • well, i forgot about the Indians, well they have bigger population than us, though

  • (2) Well, I'm sure, Indians and pnoys have better chance of being hired in MacDonald's since they can better speak English since they both were colonized by English speakers, unlike any other non-English speaking Asian immigrants there.

I've seen lots of chinese, korean and Vietnamese doctors in the States, but pnoys are mostly nurses. it's funny.

  • You are very racist, shame on you.

  • (2) Just an illustration for your better sense of scale. Japanese GDP is $4,923,761 mil, and filippon GDP is $168,580 mil. Your economy is 3.4% of that of Japan's. Got it?

When Japan grows just 3.4% a year, which means filippon-size economy is added to existing Japanese economy.

Your economy is still toooooooo small to talk about.

  • Yes, as I've said, Phil is 37th (or 36th) and Japan is 3rd in GPD list of 200+ countries. So yes there is no need to compare us with you cause Japan is SO GREAT, a great empire to begin with. we were number 2 to Japan in the 1960s and early 70s (as history and even my Korean boss has told me). then MARCOS came... and there goes our number 2 spot... i bet you know that...oh well our former president, CORY Aquino just died, the symbol of Asian Democracy...

  • So you compare yourself to korea instead? : ) I hate koreans either, but I'm a man of objectivity. You can't be compared even to korea. Sorry, my saying is truly based on stats or sound references only.

You were temporarilly #2 in Asia for a short period of time in 1950s and early 1960s.

Google "United Nations Statistics Division - National Accounts". and go objective, typical silly pnoy.

It says korean GDP is 30%, GDP per capita is 50% bigger than filippon already in the year of 1970.

  • what made you think i compare my country to korea? I said "The Philippines is Number 2 to Japan in the 1960s and early 70s (as history and even my Korean boss has told me)."---did you study reading comprehension at all?

  • If you're over 18, check everything by yourself, no matter what you're told by someone else. Don't pretend you only have ears without a brain.

Anyway you behaved like a child or a parrot.

  • Anyway, why do you even bother watching this video if it does not concern you? ..so that you could just comment and belittle your Asian neighbors who look up to your country and feel good about yourself? why don't you just mind your own GREAT country and its GREAT people and its SUPREME race?

  • Japan is doing not bad, while pnoys are deteriorating images on Asians for lots of you are mail-puchased, and work the lowest class works:babysitting, housemaids,.... that's why I concern you.

  • Don't underestimate MARCOS. He did a good job!

In 1970, north korea is richer than filippon. GDP per capita of north korea was at least 2 times higher than filippon.

i'm sure marcos was better than kim jongil. hahaha.

  • She is indeed the best Philippine President.

  • classmate nya yan dati c clinton

  • ME TOO MY IDOL TALAGA ANG GALING

  • she's the best president for me...
