@0417469006 Dear Richard Craniam. I notice you haven't used big words, so I assume your IQ is as small. The car has completed some 20,000 trouble free miles since this start-up. So I will have to argue with you that the car isn't 'fucked up' as you so eloquently put it.
@jellyfish458 actually i said that because it takes about 30 seconds for oil to circulate through the motor and u have just reved the fuck out of it with no oil. ps big words dont mean shit!
The tank was drained and was refurbished, the fuel lines were new. The crap you see is from the exhaust.
I did try to immediately switch it off, but we had fitted an alternator from a later which bypassed part of the ignition and didn't allow me to switch it off. In the end we had to pull the HT leads to cut the engine.
The throttle linkage was basically OK, it was combination of lack of use in the linkage since it was restored and the stickiness of the dash pots
to all you idiots;its quite obvious that the throttle is stuck.there was no lag in throttle time after cranking, besides no one that gives a damn about their motor would do this.
if it were me i woulda checked all linkages and what not before starting...cause surelly u woulda reallised the pedal felt weird when priming it to start ?
I remember having to 'prime' my lotus via the throttle pedal, but of all the Zs I've owned in the last 25 years I've never had to prime it with the throttle. I've always just pulled the choke and turned the starter, they always start!!
You don't have to double pump the peddle to prime Zs, at least not those with fule pump. Just give the fuel pump a couple of seconds running to build up some pressure and hit the start button. And I would not race the engine like this guy after just starting a car after so long, you should turn it over some without cranking it to get some oil pumped up and around. ESP> if you have a turbo. I suspect though this was not the exactly first time he started it, just the same day.
could you help me with my 280z it didnt start since 92, and when i go to turn it on there is a loud click under the hood, and the fuel pump doesnt prime, or run, but it does have fire and it does turn over.
Fuel pump relay is probably the first place to look. Check there is power to it first and no power to the pump. If there is power at the pump then that is probably seized.
when I got my Cutlass it has been sitting in a barn for almost 10 years once I changed the plugs, wires, distributor cap,and added a bat it fired up and there was just a huge wave or dust and rust that went flying out about a month or so later I got the cherry bomb and I took the old muffler and beat one end on the ground and ended up w\ a 4" by 5" pile of rust it was NASTY I fear what my cat looks like bc its still on lol
I tried, but because I had (temporarily) fitted a later alternator, it bypassed the ignition system and pulling the key out didn't cut the engine. I shut the choke off and it was starved of fuel because it was still cold.
It was registered January 1971, it is Chassis No35 (HS30) and was the first UK road test car. All performance figures for a 240Z in the UK came from this car.
I would have thrown my hands in the air too! Now I'm laughing like it was me, because NOW I could see it happening to a guy just like that :-) Runs good!
That was the guy in the drivers seat (RHD) and that was me, I had turned the ignition off and pulled the keys out. I was indicating to my colleague that I had turned it off! I took us a few seconds to realise what was wrong. The problem was caused by fitting a later alternator which overrides the ignition system!
Ha, I've done this once. Full throttle with an L16, probably was doing 8000RPM, never had it revving that hard before in it's life! haha.

I Think it is normal if you start the car after 7 years ,but they should check the carps before that ,to make sure it moves free
armani9300 9 months ago
@armani9300 We had done all the normal checks and we thought they were free running, but 10,000 on, it's still fine thankfully,
jellyfish458 9 months ago
@jellyfish458 Great to hear that mate, good luck with it .
armani9300 9 months ago
First problem: you didn't drain the fuel tank and replace fuel, and fuel lines
Second: you sat and let it red line for a while trying to figure out wtf is going on, on a motor that hasn't run in a while
Third: you put the throttle linkage control bar in backwards, the same thing happened to me with my dads 69' 2000 when I woke it from a 14 year sleep

I am injection and weber carb specialist in Germany
located in Stuttgart. Older cars need some additional protection against
the E10 fuel and E5 fuel these fuels contain aggressive ethanols and
this causes fuel system corrosion and engine wear. A good two stroke oil
contains ceratin additives to preventing these aggressive radical chemistry in modern fuel. I wish you some fun with your nice vintage car!

If you read the whole thread you would understand that this wasn't intended as the throttles were stuck open.
So when you know the facts, then comment.
