Second, just disappearing isn't what our oppressors are expecting, it is what they are WANTING to happen. Taking a break is not an option that should be decided as a group. Not a bad idea Charlie. I was there in OccupyTO and I think their strategy was not so much outreach as it was a demonstration of the ability to make a community that's inclusive to everyone. A 'be the change' strategy. I can see both strategies having their own effect, but the downfall is that they were able to remove that community.

20 years ago I was helping to break into Artillery Mansions, an old empty hotel opposite new scotland yard. Considering its location, the police were remarkably friendly as I recall. Central locations like that - and I guess there must be some these days given the property slump - make a sensible place to winter it out... there used to be a great church in Kentish town as well amongst others - keep the spirit alive!
The protesters in Israel have brought 400,000 people to one protest. Had each protester brought $10 (on average), they'd have enough money to sponsor protests for the rest of the year. But it's very difficult to get $10 from each protester, as it exposes the principle of being responsible for yourself. They want the government to put this money for them too. Had these people simple agree to take $10 out of their pocket, they had $4M to empower the demonstration. Nah... we'll just sing kumbaya
@Salihovicable Had each demonstrator pull $10 out of his pocket and given to the organizers, the organizers could have had $4M to spend in many creative ways which would empower the protest (tents/food/transportation/housing/neon signs/etc).

Not a bad idea Charlie. I was there in OccupyTO and I think their strategy was not so much outreach as it was a demonstration of the ability to make a community that's inclusive to everyone. A 'be the change' strategy. I can see both strategies having their own effect, but the downfall is that they were able to remove that community.
I can definitely see the foreshadowing of something great coming in the spring. We'll be back, and stronger than ever!

i live by toronto...idk really whats going on, the radio and my parents make me feel like its a real joke! my friend, whos big on conspiracy theorists goes to school downtown and sees the protesters every day, and he says that they look very silly and immature. he always jokes how they could start chanting "we want general things"

The Occupy movement needs to be just that, a "movement". Working more like a flashmob than a static occupation. Just turn up one day totally unannounced, in thousands at a location decided at the last minute... (Like UKUncut did at Fortnum and Masons!) ;)

The State knows what to do with protest; what they cannot deal with is people discussing an alternative to the state; this is best done through other groups and by setting up educational groups; for example, how did the environemmntal lobby succeed - by creating educational packs for primary teachers? The Workers' Education Association is needed; in fact, education generally in an ignorant facebook world. I blame the GREAT ROCK AN' ROLL SWINDLE.

20 years ago I was helping to break into Artillery Mansions, an old empty hotel opposite new scotland yard. Considering its location, the police were remarkably friendly as I recall. Central locations like that - and I guess there must be some these days given the property slump - make a sensible place to winter it out... there used to be a great church in Kentish town as well amongst others - keep the spirit alive!

The protesters in Israel have brought 400,000 people to one protest. Had each protester brought $10 (on average), they'd have enough money to sponsor protests for the rest of the year. But it's very difficult to get $10 from each protester, as it exposes the principle of being responsible for yourself. They want the government to put this money for them too. Had these people simple agree to take $10 out of their pocket, they had $4M to empower the demonstration. Nah... we'll just sing kumbaya

If the occupiers just up and left right now, the media will play it as the 'defeat of the movement' and the occupiers wouldn't be able to clear their name until the spring, else they wouldn't really be leaving. Sure, not everyone believes the media, but alot of people do. And that's the point. If they just showed up in the Spring again, when the momentum would be nowhere near what it is now, no doubt the media will spin it as 'They're back again?! Didnt they learn the first time??'

People need to start learning about the relationship between gov. and corporations, who has the true power and so on. I totally agree with these sentiments. There is no point in a direct confrontation with the police, we all know how it will end, with peopl hurt and lots and lots of negative public opinion.
Occupy UBS is the way to go. Lets make it into a massivly positive statment, a sort of community centre that shows the best of everyones intensions.
and to sound very cliche, this really is all about winning the "Hearts and minds" of the general public.

@Haasenpad Yes, you -Always- need an exit strategy, something a lot of the occupations have totally ignored. The -key- to his message is leave now only to come back stronger, more focused and more determined in the future. A lot of the points he makes about friends being ill, I have experienced for myself. I came the same conclusion as he did, all by myself. He even gives logical reasons for what he says.

For once Mr Veitch is right ...the protests have become static ..this is due to political incoherence on their part ...so its basically become about whether they get to stay at St Pauls or not ..as opposed to proposing challenging ideas / engaging with the public ...
