@fimfelineadmin While thick straws might work better than normal straws there is still a risk. There have been alot of accidents that involve people bumping against the straw while it is in their nose which would probably not make your model happy lol.
@madcarlosmayne yes - once the plaster positive is made, you can sculpt the mask onto it, then make a secondary mold to create the negative for the mask.
@cannibalmonkey13 Alja-Safe is crystalline silica free and is tailored to have a cure time suitable for casting large sections of the human body. Jason - Smooth-On, Inc.
this is not set standard practice, and trying to make this something public people think they can handle doing themselves without proper training can be extremely dangerous and is stupid. on set you should always have an assistant, your method takes far too long and it can be horribly claustrophobic to the actor.
@cannibalmonkey13 Agreed, make sure you test the process on a hand or other part of the body first and make sure you have an assistant (or assistants) when you attempt lifecasting. Jason - Smooth-On, Inc.
@cannibalmonkey13 I heard the actor on this video that had the mixer put on his face died during the taping from lack of air and they had to get his twin brother to finish the shoot. RIP beard guy.
@cannibalmonkey13 You CAN do this yourself1 i have done it many times with my kids, 8-10 years old. just be sure they can breathe, and keep up reassuring talk.
NO! use an alginate based product such as this. you can use alginate to make castings of anything, its dead handy. as far as i've heard resin plaster can be poisonous if inhaled.
@chrisunderscorealton you can just stick a straw into your nose I tried it and it worksleaves the mouth perfectly untouched and you can breathe normally

Ahhh, this is seems so cool!
I want to try it next time I have spendin' money.
Kind of creepy at the same time.
I want to make an elaborate prank where I go "missing" and then randomly send one of my friends a mold of my face from a mysterious stranger.
Fear and laughter ensues.
Haha.

Is the Matrix NEO a material like plaster of paris?
LieutKusa 7 months ago
@LieutKusa It is a polymerized gypsum system. Stronger and harder than plaster of paris with a faster cure time (1 hour). Jason - Smooth-On, Inc.
