@DaveWollenberg I was 14 during the summer of '75 and I remember other artists on the charts then, such as "America", "KC and the Sunshine Band", "The Captain and Tennille", "Elton John" and the "Doobie Brothers". Do you have Joel Whitburn books?
@rouens AHA! SO, that explains the Beach Boy-esque alto harmonies. One part Beatles, one part Beach Boys, all Hudson Brothers. Too bad their Razzle Dazzle Show was such a bomb. It started out so great, but fell quickly into mediocrity. I blame their boss Fabulous Freddie. Cool van, though; rivaled the Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine for hippie art style. The one act that always made me howl with side-splitting laughter was Ron Hull & his Australian Emu. What a crack-up.
Oh, wow, Hudson Bros.! I've met these guys - they were really fun! Before a concert once, I watched a pool game between the 3... Billy won.. and Brett had to pay up! Gosh, brings back so many memories...thanx for posting! :)
I remember this song from 1974, and also "So You Are A Star". At least one of those songs must be on those Rhino "Have A Nice Day" CDs. Their TV shows weren't bad either. I usually listened to Sabbath, Grand Funk or Zeppelin at that time, but I'm not ashamed to admit that I thought they were OK. I hope Brett is doing better; he's been battling health problems for a while now.
@YVT2007 At least offer up some proof. If you're talking about the Danielle Brisebois thing. No civil or criminal charges of any kind relating to any of the allegations were ever filed against Hudson by any individual or company.
As one might have expected television ruined this extraordinary pop act. Go and pick up a copy of their CD "Best of the Hudson Brothers." You won't be disappointed. Echoes of Lennon, Macca, Emitt Rhodes, Gerry Rafferty, Brilliantly written and produced songs. This was not a glam-pop act; in fact, they were incredible rockers. Television ruins everything it touches.
@PrincetonDeluxe Not only that, but their musical pedigrees include Julliard, Eastman, Berklee, Royal Scottish Academy and Conservatoire National Supérieur. Billy was guest conductor for the Moscow Philharmonic, and Brett artist-in-residence at the London Symphony. Mark studied opera and has performed tenor in numerous Puccini roles throughout Europe. At one point, the three brothers considered purchasing the Metropolitan Opera and renaming it the Hudson Opera, in deference to the Hudson River.
WTF Brett? I wanna Rendevous. I have a turn table & five albums but no needle on it (also plays * tracks). Werre your albums (vinyls) also on 8 track coz I collect them? The story on them making the cover of 16 magazine so much is that the editor at the time, Gloria Stavers, kind of had a thing for Bill Hudson. Soooo, he and his brothers got big coverage in her magazines 16 and 16 Spec.
These guys reallllly made my tweens a great time. Met them...saw them in concert multiple times and enjoy the simple, joyous pop they played. Still think Mark is a FOX.
Goldie really did anumber on Bill. She turned their kids against their dad - she is a real piece of work! Never liked Goldie and after she did that I really didn't. Oliver looks just like Bill too. Oliver is on the sitcom Rules of Engagement now.
Cindi was more human, and when they split Bill got custody of kids.
Love the Hudson Brothers! My favorite was always Mark. I always watched their show on Saturday morning (wasn't it right before American Bandstand?). My only small, almost- not-worth-mentioning critical remark...Isn't the title song word spelled R-E-N-D-E-Z-V-O-U-S?? Just curious. Thanks for the post!!!
And of course, when I saw him now. could not believe it. So bad but back then at 10 I could do many things with him. lol Just look at him. lol I would set him on my shelf for very good luck, take him to school and show all the girls. And give him a my first kiss. :)
