  • Amazing job Sue! And Momo et al, thank you for covering this important story. I know Sue here in Ottawa and she is a very compassionate and strong person. Keep up the good work to all who are advocating for the rights of others :)

  • 1 person is a psychiatrist.

  • Electro shock is barbaric, I can't believe it's still used anywhere but in horror films.

  • They still use it every day of the week in Australia. Go get it done and you can be the Horror Star ;-)

  • What I find most disturbing is that we are forcing parents to medicate their kids so that they are more "manageable" (scare quotes intended) in educational institutions. All this when psychiatry itself admits that it has no idea what these powerful medications will do to their brain development. To me, this underscores psychiatry's fundamental arrogance.

  • TOM Cruise is a nutjob and all .... but i think he is right when he says there are things we can do to strengthen and help control a problem with vitamins exercises etc.... medication is controlling!!!!!and doesnt help but truly does mask the real problem at hand ...making you function and fell ok is a whole lot different than being ok

  • @willemakit00 i thought the same thing when i saw that tom cruise rant. im bipolar and schizophrenic and i can tell you from experience that meds arent the answer, they have to be introduced at toxic levels, being on them is misery, its like being dead inside and physically feeling horrible. any mental illness can be managed but it takes a fuck ton of wisdom and patience.

  • nothing like a good brainwashing ...and a good dose of medication to make you feel that your helping a nonexistant problem ...which most likely creates a problem further down the road...WOW!!!!

  • i think its time for the psychiatrists to be evaluated .....

  • we're all guinea pigs sometimes willing depending on how bad we feel anything to make us feel better other times involuntarily .The problems with psychiatrsts is also with GPs and physicians they don't admitt they are wrong or unsure and would rather diagnose than send you on to specialists its crazy there is so little for error .Doctors education abilities and knowledges need to be accessible more . Shock treatment is never right .

  • in addition.....anyone who supports psychiatry(especially nearest relatives)are most likely guilty of their input of lies and misunderstanding upon their apparent 'loved one'.Anyone that truly loves their relative would NOT put them through it.

  • so sad that you had been deprived of a mum. This is true as I have dealt with the psychiatric system myself. They bully people who are vunerable.I think that psychiatry is the worst criminal proffession.I have seen NOONE helped by this.

  • GUYS!!, check out the new video on the National Geographic channel about the CIA brainwashing experiments. I tried to link it but my message wasn't posted. They say that shock "therapy" was an experiment in trying to create Manchurian Candidates. They even interview a guy from Toronto that was a part of the experiments!

  • I wasn't even aware of electrishock. That's a shame.

  • Electric shock treatment, with or without anaesthesia or other chemical relief, is simply electronic waterboarding, i.e. torture. It perpetrates iniquity, i.e. inequity or inequality, between the patient and the provider, since no doctor administering ECT is willing to share the suffering he is causing by so doing. They TORTURE and will be accountable. Most patients are completely innocent. ECT doctors are guilty of intentional neuronicide. Thank you. Richard M. Greene, Ignacio, Colorado, USA

  • My brother has been diagnosed with pschizophrenia. He was different as a kid, he had a wild imagination and was very creative. He didn't fit the "normal mould" and was bored and disruptive at school. He had difficulties dealing with his emotions and used to lash out. His school kicked him out, then he turned to drugs and a few years later had a breakdown. He's much better now but he's still different. Society needs to become more accepting and embrace people who are different!

  • Hi,Mario...

  • I see that there are people who got the bad end of shock therapy. And also, I heard people who benefited from that where drugs didn't work.

So, it seems the results vary from case to case. Either way, I would recommend making your own decisions rather than depending on doctors even if it means getting a second, third, fourth opinion until you are absolutely sure and ready for the good and the bad.

  • medication can cause a cycle of nonending therapy. What about the wackoo with the ice pic, and they allowed it. Thank you for keeping me aware. My daughter was diagnosed with bi-polar after she got married and moved away. I will send her this way to get educated on this subject, so that it will keep her safe. Thank you

  • So sad. Thank you for sharing your stories. It's just so sad that this lady and Mario's mom were so taken advantage of and not treated as just people with problems. If you want to talk about the stigma of mental illness, this is it. I think there are uses for these medications, but not in the indiscriminate, haphazard way they are used today or to control people is just plain wrong. And electroshock? Disturbing.

  • Hey, here's a good idea; Let's listen to the crazy person, and ignore the doctors.

  • Sad thing that you abide only by the tags spouted out by society and not your own common sense, but I'll play along. Let's listen to a doctor then. Search for "mental illness sandy" right here on youtube, and you can see for yourself what this psychiatric's bible is like. I also reccomend looking up psychiatry or psychology at deoxy dot org

  • I agree, pharmaceutical companies only want to make people dependant upon their drugs.

    It is a business decision.

Some mental hospitals may serve a role similar to the Nazi doctors that experimented on Jews during the holocaust.

It is an evil practice. these Doctors and Nurses swear by the Hippocratic oath to "do no harm", but in the end it becomes the Hypocritic oath.

  • The drugs prescribed aren't as specific as most people think. They bind to many areas of the body, leading to major chemical imbalances. But some people do need them.

  • totaly amazing
