it's genetics.. darker skin tones, eye colour, hair colour.. etc. are usually dominant over lighter coloured features. there are obviously, exceptions that state not EVERY mixed raced dominates the darker traits.

however, to counter your theory..it's not "asian" that comes out of the children.. it's just the darker features. jon is also mixed so.. essentially, the children have darker features but more Caucasian genetically. if anything, their dark eyes come from kate. jon's are green.

I don't know why just having 8 kids merits a tv show. 8 kids was the norm in ireland, my dad is one of 9, my aunt had 11 kids, my other aunt 10. Where my Dad grew up in rural west of ireland in the 1940s/50s they had neighbours - a family of 22 kids. No joke.

Thats why its more interesting and the kids are really cute. TLC has another show with a family who has 20 kids! =/ !!! (which i find disturbing) but they're not as popular as this show.
