I quite like the way they made Tom Riddle extremely dominant and demanding of his surrounding even as a child. He's extremely serious and even controlling of his own teachers. The best example is the "Prove it" line which he says to Dumbledore the first time he even meets him when he's like 10 years old. He's extremely uncomfortable even as a child.

The entire scene in generall is freaking amazing, this is the way it's supposed to be! I mean, the atmosphere, the light, the music, and of course his killer acting skills...

In this scene, Tom already had made a horcrux out of Marvolo Gaunt's ring (and by killing his father), so only his second question about _multiple_ horcruxes and soul-splittings was of real interest to him. This is really sneaky: he tortures Slughorn by making him believe he had told a terrible secret while Tom already knew how it works.
