I've been watching about 15 videos of Rosemary Clooney with my 87-year old mother. It is getting close to Christmas. I am too young to have seen the original performances of these. I am gradually warming up to Rosemary Clooney. She just sings the song and the melody, but she doesn't need to do much else. The pitch is spot on, great diction, the facial expressions are appropriate, legato singing, great tone quality. She is obviously a trained singer, but she does not show it off.
Rosie Clooney was so cute and had a marvelous voice... what a sweet person... I wish I had lived in the 50s and 60s, when she was young and in her heyday... :)
I love the thing she does when she's singing when she looks up to one side. I've noticed that she does that a lot. Like at 0:43 when she says "How I'll hate going out in the storm." =]
She does! Hahaha, if I'm singing to myself sometimes I find I'm accidentally picking up on her "Rosey-isms" like the eye thing and also the way she kind of lifts her chin up and puts her head back a little. Heehee. :]
I know how you feel about Rose. As a kid I loved her in WHITE CHRISTMAS - but then I discovered her all over again in the early 80's when she was making such great music with Concord Jazz. Isn't she delightful in this song?
Thanks for posting this example of the hundreds of great songs Clooney sang on her 1956-57 syndicated TV show, "The Rosemary Clooney Show". Never was she in better voice, or backed by consistently excellent arrangements (Nelson Riddle). I'd love for the recordings to be out on CD, or the series on DVD.
