The Glenn Miller composition "I Swung the Election" by Jack Teagarden is on Youtube. It is found as V Disc 823B. Teagarden recorded the studio version in 1939 on Columbia. Glenn Miller's first composition was "Room 1411" in 1928 with Benny Goodman. He wrote the novelty song "When Icky Morgan Plays the Organ" in 1935 for Bob Crosby. Miller wrote "Sometime" and "After Tonight" in 1939. His last composition was "I'm Headin' for California" which was composed in 1944 with Artie Malvin.
Axxording to the ASCAP database and the EMI Feist Catalog, Glenn Miller was the composer of the 1939 song "I Swung the Election" which was recorded by Jack Teagarden and His Orchestra in 1939 on Columbia. Glenn Miller was a much more prolific composer that he is gievn credit for. In addition to composing "Solo Hop", he also composed "Dese Dem Dose" and "Annie's Cousin Fanny" for the Dorsey Brothers Orchestra in 1934-35. He also wrote "Community Swing" and "Doin' the Jive" in 1937-38.
Thank you; if you want to mention the Glenn Miller copmpositions made before VICTOR/BLUEBIRD, do not forget "Sold American" that he recorded for BRUNSWICK on 23 May 1938 (and for later VICTOR on 27 June 1939, in Germany pressed on ELECTROLA in 1955). "Sold American" appeared in Germany on BRUNSWICK A 81677 in fall 1938.
Most famous composition is "Moonlight Serenade" that made his theme song. It was recorded for VICTOR on 04 April 1939.
This is a rare recording from 1935. "Solo Hop" was composed by Glenn Miller. Do you know if Glenn Miller wrote the 1939 song by Jack Teagarden entitled "I Swung the Election"? On the internet, Glenn Miller is listed as the composer. The Columbia 78 label just lists "Miller" as the composer. Is there a way to find out if Glenn Miller wrote this song? That is another very rare record. It would be a major addition to the Glenn Miller discography if we could determine if he wrote that song.
"Solo Hop" was composed by Glenn Miller and released in 1935 on Columbia Records. This was the first Glenn Miller Orchestra. A second Orchestra was formed in 1937 that recorded for Brunswick. The third Orchestra formed in 1938 was the one that became successful on RCA Bluebird. According to some sources, "Solo Hop" became a Top Ten hit in 1935 in the US. Other sources dispute this, arguing that the 78 single sold poorly. Bunny Berigan plays the trumpet solos. Claude Thornhill is on piano.
Thank you for telling in English what I said in my mother language. The sales quotes are known, so this record is quite a rarity.
The second Glenn Miller Orchestra also recorded for Decca in 1937 ("Moonlight Bay"/"Peg O'My Heart"/"I'm Sitting On Top Of The World"/""How Am I To Know"/"Whistful And Blue"/""Anytime, Anyday, Anywhere"). Four of these tracks appeared in germany on BRUNSWICK after 1950. The US Brunswick recordings appeared partly on German Brunswick in 1938!

Gefällt mir offen gesagt besser, als fast alles, was Miller später mit seiner Big Band aufgenommen hat. DANKE!
