  • I watched this on my color TV! :O

  • Johnny Olson was still the announcer!

  • a percolator? That's old school.

  • The 1982-83 season saw the familiar purple orange red turntable design debut which was on the show for many years.

  • Do you know anyone or you pressmin that has the music cue that they played during the showing of the prize? I have been looking for it for a while. Thanx

  • This was the one game on TPIR where if you had a little mathematical insight you couldn't lose. They did away with the game because it confused people! A classic symptom of how dumbed down our society has become.

  • the tv cracked me up...

  • that tape was off WNAC-TV (now WHDH-TV) Channel 7 in Boston.

  • Is this from a GSN broadcast?

  • NO..

  • Well, in case it was taped off of CBS, that is pretty good quality for someting that was taped in the early 1980s.

  • here's how you play hit me...find the item that's the actual retail price and then find an item that's the actual retail price x10. Not a hard game to explain

  • I did NOT even know that the Price is Right Hit Me game is retired. This was played just like Blackjack and a LOT of people were winners on Hit Me as well.

  • This game debuted in September of 1980, and it was retired in 2006. The game was confusing to the contestants.

  • i used to watch the price is right every time i was out of school and during summer break

  • Who doesn't?

  • Maxwell House coffee is so good. Good to the last drop.

  • The only reason I could see this being confusing to someone who isn't completely retarded, is maybe the game was too difficult for people who didn't buy certain products very often, in which case they probably shouldn't be on the Price is Right. :P

I vaguely remember this game from when I was a little kid.

  • Some people just don't play card games like blackjack, and without knowing blackjack, this game would be hard. I'm betting that's closer to the real reason.

  • They must've retired this whole cue for that prize, cause they didn't play this during season37.

  • I was able to figure that out easily because $3.79 is not divisible by anything else from 1 to 10. It's just another strategy that so many other contestants miss. And man, prices were so much lower and Bob did not have whitened hair then. This must be early 80s.

  • What Year was this? I'm thinking '81.

  • :08,

and I'm really really frightened at the high quality in which you were able to encode this video.................you must have had your Umatic on warp speed Pressmin ;D Go, you!!!!!

  • You mean Uncle Ben's Rice isn't $7.00 and Gasoline doesn't cost $0.85 cents a gallon??! C'mon!

  • I'm sure most fans, such as myself, are really pissed off that Hit me is now retired.

  • It's stupid that they retired it because some contestants were confused on what to do.

  • I agree with you. I think being too confusing for some contestants was a stupid reason why this game was taken off the pricing game rotation.

  • Not really. Bob probably got tired of telling the people how to play over and over and over again. I know I would. It's too long to explain.

  • This episode was 1981/early 1982 because the 1982/83 season didnt have the white lights around the backdrop of the stage

  • Anne in the blue dress has beautiful hair.

I'm so happy they never changed the music or sets.

  • Did the game Hit me Retire or something, this is a very easy game to win at

  • My point exactly. Hit Me was a cinch. Ironically, too many pea-brained contestants were being confused by its rules, forcing the producers to retire the game.

  • Confused by the rules, and many thought that'd be the same fate with Super Saver.

  • Actually, Super Saver was retired because Bob made a mistake while explaining the game to the contestant.

  • What a quitter! No, jk

  • der preis ist heiss

  • I loved this game!

  • Holy jebus batman, where can I get myself one of those swell picture show sets like I saw on the price is right!

  • I missed this game too. I wondered what happened to it. It was just like 5 years ago when I still saw this game.

  • It also seemed like five years ago, everyone won by getting blackjack. Except its last few playings, people picked 7's and 4's...

  • What date did this episode air?

  • It would have to be before mid-1985, that is when announcer Johnny Olsen passed away.

  • I know that Hit Me debuted on November 13, 1980 and Johnny Olson's last show was broadcasted on November 8, 1985. I was just wondering if you (or anyone) knew an exact date.

  • november 8 1985? crazy!! that was my 3rd birthday long live johnny

  • This looks like '82 or '83 to me.

The contestant had the "Magnum P.I." mustache going that was Magnum's heyday.

  • Those turntable borders were used until 1982, so I think this episode had to be from the 1981-82 season.

  • When did this episode air?

  • Hit! ME!

  • To everyone that sees this, I see why Hit Me because vintage. Wikipedia said it was too difficult to understand.

And also, I wonder how Drew Carey's going to do as the new host come the 36th season.

  • I wonder why everyone says that, when he did the final TPIR.

Besides, I wonder if Drew Carey might be a good choice.

  • This is from a 1981 original CBS broadcast and not from the 1996-2000 Game Show Network TPIR rerun package?

  • Didnt the coffee commercial at the begining give it away. That is definetly early 80s looking design vs late 90s.

  • haha new tv lol

  • I noticed that they're STILL playing the same music.

  • Damn the prizes really make u feel old if you remember them

  • this was such a ridiculously easy game, its EXACTLY like blackjack, how can people get confused playing this?

  • RIP: Hit Me (1980-2006), you will never forget. :(

  • He's not dead yet... only his career.

  • Read these, please. Are you trying to upset people? Please don't avoid the comments people are telling you. Many people are really worried that you seriously think Bob is dead when you have no proof. Or do you? If you do, then please tell me. I would like to see how you drew the (false) conclusion that Bob is dead.

  • Beijing your stupid.

  • at first i thought u were the asshole who keeps on saying RIP Bob Barker. Hit Man really does deserve to rest peacfully. only because the stupid college kids can't understand the game they retired it. that sucks.

  • new tv????

  • This game is sick!

  • I don't see how this is confusing. People these days have just gotten dumber.

  • that's true. they've been having ones make their way up to play and when they had to play Hit Me, they're confused

  • I lost in the Shower Game.

  • what the hell... why did i see an annoying maxwell house commercial in the beginning? what's that clear cap on the top of that coffee pot? and why was the whole bidding process skipped?

  • This is Monday April 9 2007 and I just saw Hit Me being played last friday. I dont think it was retired, just played less.

  • That was a rerun. The game is officially retired; its last playing aired on October 16th, 2006, and was repeated this past Friday. It's gone.

  • lol a brand new "color" t.v

  • COLOR AND 19 INCHES!!! YAY

  • Like they would give away a black and white television set. A lot of the stuff announcers say can be pretty obvious.

  • If you're really good at mental math, this is a cinch. If the number of cents is prime, it's gotta be a single. If the number of cents is 2 times a prime number, it's 2. If it's 3 times a prime, it's 3. And so on, and so on.

  • But if it ends in a 0, it'll most likely be a 10 or face card.

  • Yeah, Hit Me shouldn't have been retired because they always had people playing that didn't know the Golden Rule of TPiR: know the games! Anyone who watches the show long enough knows how to win at pretty much any given game.

  • Hit Me should NOT have been retired. It was a cinch to play and win, yet idiots always had to play it.

  • proof positive that kids are getting stupider and stupider all the time.

  • what a good-looking fellow playing the game!

  • This game was so simple! The idiots always get games like this one, and look at what happened to it.

  • My opinion is the last week of the season and Bob's TPIR run, they bring back all of the retired games for one last time!

  • Yes they better! What a good way to say good bye to the best game show host EVER!

  • It was retired because it was "too confusing". It was REALLY retired because a bunch of idiots played it in a row and rarely got 21.

  • any reason why it was retired?

  • That sucks because it was a good game.

  • It's retired as of Oct. 13th.

  • This game is still in rotation as of today. Why did you say that it's retired in the description?

  • Wikipedia said the game retired because the rules were to confusing for people or something.
