Because the people and their loved ones were not only losing on the front, but not getting very many victories, besides if u think we were all for the war ( Germans ). The Tsar had a long list of problems that people didn't like. He was nicknamed Bloody Nicholas because of the bloodshed that he caused within the country. He pretty much single handedly ruined the entire Russian Empire and put the country into economic and military collapse. He was extremely unpopular and it wasn't just the WW1 in which Russia suffered b/c of him, but also in the Russo-Japanese war.

Reality is that the same method was employed by the communists everywhere, not only in Ukraine. What made the event worse were the failed crops of that year which in every agrarian nation means mass starvation. When the nazis went in they did the same, taking lifestock and wagons of grain to Germany.

@Crowzism all of the German soldiers took orders from german officers and all german officers either took orders from heinrich himler or hitler so yes all germans were nazis except for the ones who didnt take orders and got shot by the ones who did take orders

@wreckingball28 mayi don't think it's that simple. if you refuse orders as a soldier today you get kicked out of the army or go to jail. in those days you go killed by your own people. and when you have a wife and kids at home you maybe think twice in things that you're doing. and btw. it is proofed that german soldiers were not "nicer" but also not more cruel than the opponent forces.

People please, learn history before judging. The German Wermacht was a very honorable and old fighting force. The SS were the evil ones. The SS were created to be Hitler's elite fighting force. They were trained to be ruthless and brutal in combat and to take few prisoners. The Wermacht was probably more honorable than any of the Allied forces. Stop grouping German soldiers into one category.

@Kontrastat SS was not "Evil" however there were a lot of evil people making decisions as a whole. Soldiers of the Waffen SS was NOT evil because some idiots in Washington or Moscow said so. War is evil no matter who shoots who. I say again Germany WAS NOTevil and neither was the Waffen SS. Gestapo is a different story. Gestapo was the true terrormachine and noone was safe from them not even generals. But the russians counterpart was just as evil and yes Stalin was the most ruthless person alive

@Knasterreal1 I almost totally agree with you. However, look up some of the crimes done by the SS. Massacre at Malmedy, the Einsatzgruppen, concentration camp guards.... Not all SS men were fanatical killers, though, they were drawn to the prestige of the units. I also say Germany was not evil, it was just controlled by a evil man. And the Soviets were no better. Stalin probably had more people killed during his life than Hitler did.
