I have to agree!! I was born in 1980 and L.A was rough in those days. That is when you had the emergence of the gangs, crack cocaine and A.I.D.S. And those thing hit L.A HARD!!
These videos, right here, are a dream for me. LA and the 80s... you can't get in a better time capsule than that, in my mind. If only I wasn't -5 years old and existed to see this. And now I can.
amazing :) i use to want so badly to be alive in the 80s and this let me see what life was like back then, i was smiling through this whole vid...thank you for the upload :)
A lot of things have changed, but have stayed the same. I remember Piece O Pizza. They were all over L.A. in the 80s. My favorite childhood pizza place.
So many things to point out - at about 3:45 you can see Sting's Dream Blue Turtles on an billboard, A&M Studios was right past that, they always advertised their latest releases on there.
Amazing video, it feels like a transitional era, where it had shown its slight decay and had a Hollyweird reputation. Today, Hollywood Blvd in the last 10 or so has reached a more "glammy" glaze over it so to speak in terms of tourist and gentrificational development and activity.
I noticed at 1:28 "St.Elmos Fire" was playing at one theater and at 2:24 "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" was playing at another. I lived in that area and in San Diego in 1985. Great Memories! Thanks for posting..its like going back in time!
this video is great. this is how you post a comment aktion 13f14, they whent out of there way to put this on here so show some appreciation if not we no one here cares. let me translate it for you, thug life homey... paper paper bag, im rockin yellow, so drop it like its hot son, KOBY!
Thanks goodness I was born in 1968 and had seen everything changing from my time to today.. Too bad for those who were born in the 90's and moron kids as do not understand about the old times!!
@aktion13f14 yes you are that retarded, you cant possibly think the area, the year, that it might hold a special signifigance to some people out there, ehhhyy but dont let me ruin your day thug life!!! bling bling!! smak my bitch up!! money in the bank thats life.
@tjluis2002 what in fuck's name are you talking about? thug life? who do you think you're talking to? you goddamn miserable result of a drunken backseat skinfest and a broken diaphragm...
how do you even think you could ever ruin my day? you can barely compose a sentence; you're obviously not capable of much. cunt.
@aktion13f14 oh you know me so whell, THUG MOTHE.. LIFE!!! do you need me to show you? im saying your about as comlex as a carboard box for posting such a retarded comment, im more capable than you at anything be it tic tac toe or anything above that to infinity, your not ruining my day home slice, i got to much pride for your little comment the reason i posted a comment was to pain you a picture: im walking threw a nice park and everythings going great until i see someone left a dog poop right
This brings back so many memories! @ :58 seconds, The Gift Garden (Best Head Shop on Hllywood Blvd!) I worked there & @ :59 seconds, Johnnie's Restaurant..Where all of us from The GG went to eat for lunch or dinner!! Both of those establishments are long gone now. The Gift Garden is now The King King club. So sad, yet it was great to see it again. Thanks for the memories!!!
i was only 6 when this vid was taken. it's a trip to think what was going on in the world at that time. Ronnie Ray-gun was in office, Back to the Future was in theaters, The Dukes and Threes Company were still on the air, Madonna and Motley Crue were fairly new acts, and no one would know what a Chernobyl was for another year...
Amazing. I was just a toddler when this video was taken, but I was living in L.A. at the time... I'm looking at places like Hollywood Blvd and the intersection of La Brea & Sunset. It's still a Mobil Station there just like in the video. A lot of the buildings are basically the same with remodeling done and different businesses.
dream of the blue turtles was released on 6-1-85, so we can assume this was probably early/mid summer 1985. he needs to turn radio to kroq (rock of the 80s!)
Sweet!! I was a teenager in 1985. Things were back then. My generation ( 80's). Today's youth will never experience the 80's. That belongs to the people who are in their 30's or older today!
@jeff1969z i was a kid on the 80s not a teenager.but still i have the greatest memories of the 80s.from 81 forward i remember still plenty of things.80s had a certain magic that no other decade forward from there has!!!i was born on 76.also i remember being on 1984 in los angeles and seeing the olympic flame at nights from downtown.behind the court building
@bengativo6 Cool! Those were great times back then. The music was awesome, gas was cheap, TV shows were better back then, and the economy was healthy. I love the 80's!!
@jeff1969z .lol i remember lots of stuff such as arcades .toys .etc.and specialy the saturday mournings youd wake up at 6 m and watch cartoons half of the mournin.lol.
@jeff1969z I loved the '80s too, but the economy wasn't great. The decade started off with the Arab oil embargo, when gas was very expensive (adjusted for inflation) with long lines, rationing, and in some cases was impossible to get at any price. The "Black Monday" stock market crash and the S&L crisis were in the late '80s, along with a wave of bank and business failures and recession. There were lots of gloom and doom predictions and "we're all gonna die!" crap then too, just like now.
@jeff1969z Well there were two recessions in the 80's if I remember right, one in 1981-82 and the other in 1987 or thereabouts, so the economy wasnt' necessarily healthy. LOL But you got all the rest right! :)
I have to agree!! I was born in 1980 and L.A was rough in those days. That is when you had the emergence of the gangs, crack cocaine and A.I.D.S. And those thing hit L.A HARD!!
