we did this at gettysburg to raise money for our flag. the yankee wanted to play a few northern songs so we let him join us and he helped us raise money for the flag. Dylan is not wearing a hat because he put it on the ground so people would put money in it for the flag.
@LegallyMoi It's because the Battle Cry of Freedom wasn't just a Union Song, the lyrics were changed by the southerners and it was also used as a Confederate Song.
@LegallyMoi there was also a Southern version, "Our Dixie for ever she is never at a loss, down with the eagle and up with the cross" ( the cross of St. Andrew) many songs had Southern versions.
The third person from the left is a male. He's Dylan Sheffer of the West Augusta Guard. He has long hair and feminine features. I performed with him in 2008 at the Veteran's Day parade in Staunton, Virginia.
there's a group called 12th Louisianastringband & Benevolence Society. they have this song on there CD/Tape. well worth checking into. the CD/Tape is called Southern Songs of Love and War. There on line and the CD is nice price too
i thought that rally round the flag and battle cry of freedom were two completely different songs. i could be wrong because its been awhile since i have played but i was pretty sure they were not the same.
I have no idea what Connecticut Halftime is or why the drummers may or may not be playing the wrong thing. All I know is I recognized the tune as Battle Cry of Freedom.
you guys did a great job, make no mistake! but on the high notes, someone is outrageously sharp.

Google says they are, but I think I have seen another song also called "Rally 'Round the Flag" that did not have the same lyrics.
eringobragh915 3 years ago
They are the same song. But there are two slightly different versions, a Union version and a Confederate version.

So why are the drummers playing Connecticut Halftime??
Isn't there a part? Don't mean to be picky...was just looking to hear an origional drum part of Battle Cry.
