  • james got the lyrics wrong it should be lars singing DEAR HETFIELD DEAR HAMMETT what is THIS HELL YOU HAVE PUT ME TROUGH :D

  • best thrash song ever written , but its for the studio , james and lars can't handle this at all, props for writing it though

  • Lars wants to punch babies when he finds out that he has to play this song.

  • I was therrrrreeeeeeee... fucking awesome

  • Lars is a terrible drummer

  • @ColtinNotChicken but your mom is a great drummer cuz she beats my dick off every night. Piss off hoe

  • @ColtinNotChicken ... well it's true he's not a great drummer... but Metallica wouldn't be Metallica without him. Just like how DT is not DT without Mike Portnoy (who is the greatest drummer of all time) :(

  • @ColtinNotChicken lets see you do better.

  • Fuck that intro is so fucking powerful ! It's a shame they don'y fucking play it anymore live... I hate them for that.. But FUCK that intro is AWESOME !!

  • dude lars doesn't suck at double kick. i mean listen to the breakdown type shit in sweet amber. and the intro to st. anger. i really don't know why he didn't play this. but really, lars is a kick ass drummer.

  • Lars can still play like he did aeound Justice trust me..he`s just being so lazy right now, just look at Dave Lombardo

  • Look at Jimmydrum92, nails this song!!!

  • yeah double bass at that many bpms would be hard for 71/2 minutes, give lars a break, unless all the haterz want to post videos of themselves playing the song all the way through. I agree with HAN.....piss off

  • @wrenchhed29 Don't forget playing it in a set that lasts a few hours.

  • Great song... Not dissing it or anything, but I love it how James is kinda mumbling through some of the lyrics he's forgotten. Sounds great live though.

  • Hey, the fucking part of this music is the double bass drums. Faster as it never was in metallica. But...could you hear the double basses here? Did Lars play the double basses? I didn't, but, anyway, in my computer conditions, it is maybe impossible to hear.

    Bad english, i'm Brazilian.

  • Lars got some help in the studio with the dobble bass and he never played it since! However he's still a great drummer and musician!

  • I agree with SwinginSevens

Playing even a 30minute show of thrash metal is harder than like 2 hours of a Stones show

And this song is more of a bitch to play than like 100% of Stones shit

  • Yeah

I don't know if any of you have played shows or anything, but playing metal like this for 2+ hours fucking KILLS

Whereas jammin' out some Stones shit just like, whatever

    Ya know

    Also

Everything about Justice is ten fold more elaborate than any other record

    Just saying

  • I love Metallica but I think Lars is incredibly mediocre because of this, if he practiced enough he would be able to play this

  • tht true beside it must been hard to sing since it about his childhood

  • Lars suck!!

  • there's thousands of drummers that do shit every night that require 1000x more endurance than this song does. it's funny when the drum covers of a song on youtube are better than when the actual drummer that "played" the parts is performing. lol @ lars.

  • thats cuz lars is like 50 fucking years old...im surprised that he's even up there still.... give the fucker credit

  • he couldn't do it in his 20's, hence them not playing it since they recorded it. since when is 50 the age limit for someone to stop playing live? quick, someone phone slayer!

  • As much as I love this band, I have to agree, Lars does kinda let the side down, sure, he's a good drummer, I couldn't do better, but he can't repeat what he does in the studio, if it's even him doing it...

  • Yeah pretty much i might do a cover of dyers eve just to see if i can play it ae

  • @jamesyboy0987654321

    dude its age believe me around justice lars could pull this off but well everybody gets old my friend;

  • @jamesyboy0987654321 He had some help in the stude....some prgramming....its in the album credits..

  • Rolling Stones ring any bells? They're like "50 fucking years old" + 10-15 years.

  • @aoczigo ha... perfect example... in an interview ,metallica directly referenced the stones sayin "yea in terms of longevity people might bring up the rolling stones, but they dont do what we do. theyre not out there headbanging and thrashing"... thats just what james said

  • they aren't playing dyers eve.

  • rolling stones aren't? looks like neither is metallica!

    ZING

  • @theycallmevirg ya they r

  • i guess lars didn't have the confidence to play this or something, he can play it now, it really isnt very hard

  • hmmmm.....i'm as big a fan as the next guy, but if lars aint' gonna do the double bass on this song then i gotta say don't bother....that's the signature part of the guts of this song, no???

  • i agree and i suspected he would've considering they were touring off of st. anger and that was when he got back into doing double bass like that...

  • yeah, he fucked it up, and lars isn't doing the double-bass drum, but still good, just too bad that lars was kinda lazy on the drums, he still has it in him, just wish that they would have brought the crazy!!!

  • This truly is a rough song to play....I've played their music for almost 15 years ...this ones tough

  • it was the first time the played this song live. so have respect

  • is lars even doing double bass???

  • I like this song, but 5:29 ahahahahahahahaha, that was nice :))

  • This song is a fucking BITCH to play. respect to lars and kirk

  • None of you people bashing Lars probably even have 1/1000th of the skill drumming he has. Piss off.

  • 5:29 AHAHA "Time has frozen still whats left of me" Not "Emma tiaem forzen neft go me." oh god... it's amazing how much him and Lars fucked up. I'm just glad they fixed everything in Death Magnetic.

  • he plays it now,,this was 5 years ago

  • Did u guys ever go and hear the first time they played "Trapped Under Ice" That song is fucking nuts to play, its that damn chord change on their verse that you have to play so fast.

  • Note to Hetfield: EVERYTHING ends up on YouTube. Remember the lyrics next time.

  • 2:24 "Hungry for what's wrong or boob! Children are seen uninspired!" In spite of being a little bit off, playing Dyers Eve probably pleased every motherfucker in that arena, and that's what it's about right?

  • It's like they're getting an injection: Do it quick and don't stare so it won't hurt!

It's funny how NERVOUS they sound - James even apologises in the end, oh well...

  • i heard he was getting some kind of teacher for vocals or something like that he only made his bad ass voice softer wich in MY opinion is not that good

  • You may kill me for this, but bad vocals,no double bass.Really not good(at least for me).Very bad is this recorded after sand Anger. Those vocals are just killing me,they are let's face it awful.

  • vocals are fine...

but yea, the no double bass makes it sound not right, though fuckin lance armstrong would have a rough time playin this song on drums. lars is only human

  • Yea, his legs were probably killing him, considering a vast number of their songs have double bass

  • at least put audio only in the title

  • i remember that day like if it was yesterday it was fucking awesome hearing this song live \m/

  • Wow man!!! I really love the double bass. You can hear is it so clear!!!! Lars is the king of double bass...

  • hmm no. dave lombardo (slayer) is better

  • yeah i know its live but still James is losing his voice from the 80s and 90s.

  • 17 times actually

  • 2004, The Forum is the first time they EVER played this song live.

  • wow did you come up with that on your own? stop looking at videos that you dont like you dumbass fucker. no one gives a shit what your fucking opinion is so go kill yourself

  • old metallica = killer

    new metallica = killer

smetch = stupid dildo licker who should go kill himself

  • Whatever go listen to load with a load in your mouth.

  • YOU'R SHIT!!!

  • Not shit, THE shit.

  • always from the the move

    children are expired? 2:15

  • Ah James just fucked up at that point. He totally forgot the lyrics.

  • lyrics are the less....with no double bass this song sounds horrible!!

  • theres no double bass pedal!!!!!!!! lars is a fag

  • its kinda slowed dowwn so lars can keep up jk

  • Yes!!!!Its kool to hear them play this after so long!!!

  • Comment removed

  • i wAs at this show..!!!! fuckin insane...

  • i was there too and...

    you're right

  • Not to be hating, and stuff.

But It's James(Vocals) that fucks up the songs now. His voice is pussyish, and he sounds like a candian Billie Joe Armstrong( Not hatin' on Green Day Either but its MetallicA not Green Day)!!!

  • Cut him a break, he did blow out his voice, and have to relearn how to to sing "the right way" so it wouldnt happen again.

  • Yeah, I know what you mean...

Plus he doesnt drink anymore, and he smokes less.

  • I think it's a very unique performance, not just because it was the first time ever played, but also because James messes up on the lyrics. Think about it, there won't be another perforance like it ever again.

  • umrugubum watson bumbo

  • OMG huge screw up by james on the second stanza

  • yea he said believer dictator when its curator dictator haha o well

  • la raja el doble bombo! un golpe de bombo por 4 de caja ! bacan la tecnica.Solo lars puede frenar asi los temas, idolo.

  • HAHAH THERES NO DOUBLE BASS.

  • Jeeeeez...i wonder if this god forsaken drummer has EVER used a metronome. I haven't ever watched a single performance of Metallica without him making obvious rhythmic mistakes. And it's really a pity, since Ulrich has put on record some really wonderful ideas on his work on the drumkit...

  • You might be right... James himself said once that Lars isn't a VERY good drummer... but look where is he and where you are!!

  • Good point. I'm in Greece, he's in the US. Well boo fucking hoo.

  • yea.. but still.. you try play this =P

    it's fucking nuts

  • yeah many can bullshit it, but the picking patterns and stuff is hard to do correctly even after my 7 or so years of playing.

  • Joey Jordison SUCKS ASS, he ain't shit compaired to Lars, he;s a fucking fake ass fuck

  • James: "this is one song that we have never play before...and this is the reason why"

    *start the song*

    sloopysoundoutoftunesvoicescrappydrumssloopysoundoutoftunesvoicescrappydrumssloopysoundoutoftunesvoicescrappydrums

    xD

  • I know Lars usually plays the songs a bit faster live but i didn't think he'd do it in Dyers eve. haha

    Good shyte man!!!

  • omg at 2:24 "umrugubum watson bumbo" james totally missed the lyrics! anyway the should play it more often cause it's an amazing song! and btw great drums and awesome solo!

  • I do think Lars is a very talented drummer, but i'd still like to hear this song if someone like joey jordison was on drums

  • Is that true? Is that the first time they play Dyers Eve live?

  • yeah dude its true, it was the first time that metallica ever played dyers eve, 16 years after it was recorded

  • damn wtf.

  • no it is not i saw a vid of dyers eve in 2003

  • and you can hear why they try not to play this song xD

  • in 2003 the beginning was jammed several times after no remorse. this one here is actually the first full performance.

  • The first full performance as far as I know was on the Madly In Anger With The World tour in 04.

  • WHOOPS. Never mind my comment rofl. I was sure this video said 2006 for some reason. My bad xD

  • lolololololol

  • i was there, and it was fucking glorious.

  • as the wine ,older is better!

  • 100 years haha

  • hahah i was at this show when they played it

  • you're lucky man. I'd give anything to see this song live :P

  • Well most songs now a days are recorded in sections via " punching in and punching out" but if you write a peice of music that you cant play all the way through then you shouldnt play it live and embarass yourselves

  • no double bass...thats gay...

  • esto sí que es un vómito de perro y no pueden negarlo

  • i witnessed that shit LIVE in PERSON

  • man what are you singing?? dear mother dear father only shit you remember, yeahhhhh thats fucking rock n roll you shoul of been fucking drunk and gone like i am right now james youre greatest ever keep on rocking man, saying hi from colombia waiting for you, if you dont play this song live in colombia im gonna show you what madness is fucker!!!!

  • Think James forgot 90% fo the lyrics lol

  • I think if they play it during the World Magnetic Tour it would be awesome!

  • no kidding

it wuld be awesome too if they played it at the same place on dec. 18th!!!

  • they didnt

  • or the 17th

  • as stated previously, james f ups the lyrics, espeically at 2:23, and 3:30. Im ok with that tho, James get a pass, he rarely/never screws up. Lars on the other hand, well...his feet work on this live song is horrible. but thats to be expected, when does lars play anything live where it sounds good? At least he hits most of the hand parts (accents, cymbal chokes, and somewhat keeps the backbeat on track) he should get rid of the 2nd bass drum tho, for real, and not just for this song either.

  • Lars prooves that he is a bad drummer... He s not playing the double bass at all!! shame on him

  • He is, because this wasn't released live on cd, it's just a recording from one of the speakers. The double bass drum is too deep to be picked up

  • Man wtf did James do to the lyrics!!!!!!!!!!!! and where is lars double bass at!!!!...man wtf i know theyre getting old but damn thats just riddiculous

  • That was funny....

  • Terrible,James fucked up the lyrics, Lars slacked the beat.James sounded better before before his singing lessons.Kirks solo was exellent though.

  • hehe i was there and i remember that!! awesome..place went wild as fuck man...

  • fair play to kirk for nailing that solo pretty much note for note!

  • James hahahaha

( I dont even know what album its from )

( I dont even know what its called ! )

  • lol anyone else how wrong he got the lyrics!

shit hot tho one of the best

  • Lars isnt using double bass! :(

  • lars waz really lazy during this time period

  • He is. it just sounds like crap. He can't keep up.

  • That was nothing short of amazing and I'll bet that song is a bitch to play live. For them to pull it off that good is a true testament to how great these guys really are. I would have loved to been there and envy all who were!!!

  • lars was very sloppy this year, but kirk did nail the solo though

  • Lars did it as best as he can... much Respect for him...!

  • yeah and when he says "im in hell without you" is when the single bass is supposed to be used.

  • fuck all of you mothefuckers.

    metallica is number one !siempre!

  • during the singing verse, u cant hear the high hat pretty sad

  • he used the china instead

  • Great song!

  • i remember this

    i was there

    we were all like

    OMFG

    lol

    sloppy but great

  • love this song!!! i think they are coming back to normal metallica on the new album xD xD

  • why shud the picture be this bastard's face... he can't play this song anymore.. just listen to the crappy pedal..

  • haha i like lars. but yeah they got real lazy this year (2004) thinking they were doing fans a fan favor by playing this song if you do a youtube search on it. the verses are clearly missing the double bass. the double bass is supposed to come in right when he says "innocence torn away" im giving mohamed thumbs up

  • See them next saturday, I really hope they play Dyers Eve

  • best metallica song!!

  • Wow I can't hear the double bass drum on this shong. Is it actually being played?? if not: lars, go kill yourself

  • ofcourse hes not playin the double bass... lars cant play the double bass for shit anymore. and i hope people arent fooled by that shit double bass he pulled off on st anger..

  • He's almost 45, you goof. What do you expect? He's been roaring/screaming/singing for over 30-years and was an alcoholic for much of that time.

  • well, if you think about it, hes 40+ years old, and he recorded that shit in his 20's and he was in shape, so its not that he doesn't want to do it, its called he cant do it anymore at least, I mean look at Dave Lombardo Reigning Blood awesome CD, but see him nowadays he's about half as fast as he was than, and a bit more cleaner

  • well he doesn't practice as much as he used to now that he has family and all. his age might also be part of the reason, but there are drummers out there that are 40+ yrs old and still kick ass. lars just sucks now

  • Nahhh dave has had constant talent and speed, its just that his playing has evolved out of that Generic thrash drum loop Bass snare bass snare bass snare bass snare CRASH bass snare bass snare. daves doin all kinds of intruicate stuff. Lars Can do it if he just builds up some endurance like he did. I mean look at the guy he was a small little guy in the 80s but could last forever with those thrash blast beat things (what i call em). I hope that with this new album he will regain strength

  • my favorite song, very powerful!!!!

  • this is great!! I love this song!
