  • this is the way I remember it sounding as a little kid - before the media mixers got ahold of it & put out some absolutely awful digital version - this tune is way too pretty to modify !

  • i love this song !!

  • Jimmy Rodgers--one of my first loves--his voice--his looks fantastic !! good memories.

  • won't comment more than: Thank you for sharing.

  • Ah I just love that song and what a beautiful way to share it with us. I am 38 and exsposed my husband to this tonight. Thank you for the gift.

  • still sounds good

  • I recall 78's. Born in early '54 and one of my first memories centers around one- We were at aplace called "Bargain Barn' in Indianapolis- it must've been about 57-

We bought a 78 record there and Dad was carrying me and I was carrying the record- I dropped it and it broke a part of the side- They were brittle and broke easily-

I was disappointed- I think it was a Gene Autry or Roy Rodgers cowboy song- but we took the record home and played it from the broken off part to the end

  • About the comments about when they stopped making 78's, they still made them in the mid 60's in countries like India & Argentina. In fact I saw a video right here on Youtube of a 78 of the Beatles 1965 single "Help/I'm Down".

  • One of my favorite tunes

  • I actually had a copy of this record on 78 but my sister broke it!

  • love it

  • Thanks for uploading this video. Miss those good music by Jimmie Rodgers. He's one of my favorite singer.

  • damnit, i love this song

  • Wow - love the stackomatic record player! Didn't know it came out on 78 too. It sounds really great for a 78 that's 53 years old!

  • The song that my Father thought of my mother by. He died at 24 years of age over in Iskenduren bay, Turkey while on a salvage operation in the navy, leaving my 22 year old mother with two little toddlers; me & my big brother. But we still have this song to remember him by.

  • Well we worked very hard both me and my wife

Workin' hand-in-hand to have a good life....<<<---For sure!!! Thanks!

  • excelente

  • I remember when jimmy rodgers had a summer tv show, and one of my brothers trying to impress a girlfriend said jimmy had a steel plate in his head , he said this was true, whether it was or not .....

  • Yes, it's true- I'd read about it online. In fact, it was giving him trouble and they were going to replace it. When they removed it they discovered that bone had regenerated beneath it. Doctors commented it was something they'd never seen before.

  • aside from there being many versions by different individuals there are also a couple of variations by Jimmie Rodgers himself -this version is the one I've always known and liked best

  • 78 s4FR, muito obrigado, vielen Dankf die Postierung dieser evergreens.

  • wow! thank you 78s4FR

  • recently i got the tough german version 'küsse süßer als wein' by jörg maria berg. great to hear the original!!

  • Wow! this is a 78 RPM, what needles are you using?

  • Nothing but a good old BSR sapphire stylus - still in its original cartridge. No problems getting new ones - a firm called StylusPlus in the UK has virtually every 'grooverider' ever made, and they're nice and cheap!

  • Very nice song. Reminds me, me and my woman, she has those sweet kisses too.

    Love you...

  • I have a worn out 45 containing this song, the other side is a version of "The story of my life" by Marty Robbins. The record has no label and the material looks more like a 78, it's thicker than a normal 45. Both songs were recorded in 1957, someone told me it could be some kind of a promotional record. I'm not 100% positive, but it sounds like it's the same version of the song like on your 78...

  • I remember this from when I was very young. Dad would play records while he fixed his lunch and got ready to go to work. I miss my Dad and songs like this.

  • 1958 hit one best male singers 50s made alot of hits. all were hits.one of my favorite singers .

  • This is such a great song. Thanks for posting it!

  • Lovely song from the past...Tks. Mate!

Ohhh and I always digged the tone of coal miner backup singers :)

  • i enjoyed that!

  • Love that vinyl crackle... mmm mmm...

    Jimmie Rodgers was the man...

  • Love that vinyl crackle... mmm mmm...

Great song; love that voice... : )

  • haha I love this song,

    thanks ;)

  • I remember this song when I was a child.............it laid out life for me, in a song. I was only 6. I loved it and it told me about life, in lyrics I embrace, to this day.

  • Great to hear this one again, after so many years (since the 70s, I think!).

    Thanks!!

  • I always loved this song. I didn't know they were still making 78 records in 1957, I thought they died out way before that. I'm glad to see LP's are making a comeback, but 78's are probably gone forever.

  • I'm not sure when 78's fazed out in the States, but in the UK they lasted right to the end of 1959, most of which are worth loads more than the 45rpm release

  • @78s4FR Most of the US labels issued their last 78s in 1957 or 1958 but some of the smaller labels, mostly country and R&B, continued producing them as late as 1959. I read an article on Cliff Richard several years ago and it mentioned that his last 78's were released in early 1960, so at least some British labels were making them as late as 1960.

  • @78s4FR 1959 was the last year for the U.S. 78 rpm as well. I remember reading that fact years ago. Interestingly, the version of this song on Jimmie's 1st lp on Roulette "Jimmie Rodgers" features an alternate version with added drums.

  • @78s4FR 78 RPM records went away in the US during the late 50s, probably about the same time they did in the UK.

  • Always liked this song.

The lyrics are a reminder of how

fast the years ago. You get married

and before you know it your a grandfather

and before long you will just live in

people's memories when you live this

    world.

Wonder what ever became of Jimmie

    Rodgers?

  • He died about 10 years ago..

  • nonsense, pure bull..

  • Sorry about that oakmont9...He died in 1997...I did say about 10years...You're a pretty picky person aren't you....

  • check out the performance given in '08 on youtube.

  • There was a guitar player named Jimmy Rogers, he died in 1997. Jimmie Rodgers (* 1933) is still alive...

  • This fine gentleman, born in 1933 is very much alive. He is JIMMIE RODGERS, not Jimmy Rogers.

  • oakmont9...Thanks for the input, my apologies and long may he live....

  • Both "the Singing Brakeman" and the "Honeycomb" 1950s pop singer spelled their names the same: Jimmie Rodgers.

But "the father of country music" Jimmie Rodgers died in 1933, of tuberculosis, at age 35. The pop singer Jimmie Rodgers was born the same year.

  • This song is a lot of fun. Great interpretation!

  • no doubt. the best. love it.

  • 1 of the greatest songs ever

  • Great tune. Reminds me of when my father used to play this, and other, songs on Sunday mornings.

  • Awesome. Searched long and hard for the original . Sweet

  • Far and away the best version of this song. Beautiful voice.

  • thanks man!

  • Love it ... thanks for posting
