I live in Winchester and I, too, get complacent about it at times. However, I saw it in a completely different light a while back when I was showing a friend around who was visiting from the USA. He was so impressed by everything that it gave me a whole new outlook on the town - which I still have. I can hear the Cathedral bells from where I live. I'm so lucky to live here. By the way, I like the Farmer's market too!
@Sunflowers159 Yes, Winchester is a great town to visit and I'm sure to live in. BTW the harvest festival market will be there in the outer cathedral close again the 2nd and 3rd of October, we'll be picking fruit today for the occasion. Do drop by and say hello.

Stunning setting for a harvest celebration ! I think you're so lucky in the UK to actually have ancient cathedrals......it's not like that here in Canada .....nothing older than the mid-late 1600's.
(And that's only a few buildings in Ville de Quebec)
I can only imagine what it's like, praying in a church where your ancestors also worshipped, centuries ago.
You've got so much to be thankful for... on top of the harvest.
I wish I could have been there to try all your apples, and to give you a taste of ours. Last time I was at Winchester Cathedral was when I began my walk from there to Canterbury, filmed in glorious 8mm (see attachment) Thanks for replying to my plum tree message, appreciate the time you took. Regards, Andrew
Thanks Andrew. Can you post your video on YouTube and send it as a response to this? We get used to Winchester living 10 miles away but I think we often forget what a lovely part of England and teh good old world we are happy enough to live in.
Of course, I added my film as a video response here. In fact I have another, already posted on my site, of an 8mm film walking around Hampshire, near St Catherine's Hill, it is called 'A walk between two high points' I'm sure you will recognise some views. Best wishes
I miss the sound of the bells. Used to live there but now live in Canada. Winchester is a beautiful place to live miss it very much.
