THANKS for posting! Debra Paget was one of the screen's most beautiful starlets and a very effective effective actress in the right role. Poor John Brown's aim was noteworthy (to end slavery) but his methods were foolish. His band of followers were NO match for the federal gov't. It would eventually take the entire force of the federal gov't and a horrible civil war to finally end the curse of slavery from American soil.
A nephew of the then president of Taipei in the mid 50's was sent to receive $50 million from the State Dept. for oil exploration in that chinese island. The nephew kept half and sent the balance to his uncle. He stayed in Texas, built a huge mansion and partied. He met Debra Paget, married her and settled down. He passes away many years later. Debra inherited the mansion and a his fortune. In her old age she became a born-again-christian after she was too old to party anymore.
This looks more historically accurate than "Santa Fe trail." They made it seem like he had a whole army in that movie. This shows him with what he had at the time of his capture: just a relatively few men.
That's interesting he played the character twice!! I thought he looked familiar. :P
I am a big fan of Jeffrey Hunter and recently got a copy of this great movie, but it has quite a poor quality. I don't understand why it hasn't been released on DVD yet. What are people in Warner waiting for? I just don't get it...
