If that dates right i was born exactly 80 years to the day after it was filmed, I know that means f**k all to anyone but i thought it was pretty good lol
thats my aunt too! i can't believe i found soɜ many relatives onɜ a comment page onɜ you tube. Ya'll goin to the family reunion inɜ Cairo this fall right?
and it was the scene where beatrix kiddo found out she was pregnant ...moments later " annie oakley" was mentioned
so i wondered whos that?
after looking her up on wikipedia
i learned that "Using a .22 caliber rifle at 90 feet Oakley could repeatedly split a playing card edge-on and put five or six more holes in it before it touched the ground"
I wouldn't even think of having a kid, or anyone shoot or hold a quarter between his fingers and have me or anyone else shoot at it. You should know that pointing a gun at anyone is against all rules pertaining to shooting today. The quarter I shot was mounted on a target board, and a hole was shot through it. When Annie shot the heart of a playing card, Frank was holding the card, and Frank was holding the card when she shot the card with the edge facing her. That was then not today.
If you view the film and stop it when Annie is shooting the glass balls you should be able to see little white spots. These are the pieces of glass flying from being hit by Annie.
@DuckwalkSupreme Not to me. When I was a kid I new a guy who was pretty good at it with a bb gun. And if you search youtube you will see people doing it today using pistols not rifles, I find that to be amazing. Not 1 out of 10 with a rifle.
@tmax45R The bullet would be knocked off course. Shoot a coin if you can hit it and you will see it knocked off course. Do you really thing the bullet is going to just sit there with a hole in it???
@matrox Do you shoot? Well, I do. I shoot a .45 pistol, Clays with a shotgun, .22 at 50yds. High power rifle at 100yds and 500 meters(547yds). So I know how hard it is to do what she did. I have put a hole through a quarter at 100yds in a supported position with a high power rifle. It's nothing to brag about. Now do that shooting offhand, and you have something to brag about.
@tmax45R What If I told you I was a Markmen that could pop a quarter from 300 yards away with a telescopic scope with all wind resistance and trajectory computer calculated before I even pull the trigger? Now if you are a shooter you will know by common sense if nothing else that the coin will be knocked of course by the force of the bullet. Hold a quarter between your fingers, give your gun to a 5 year old kid and tell him to shoot the quarter and lets see if the bullet will go knocks it out.
@Velasca In every biography I ever heard of her or Sitting Bull it says she was. , And I have been reading about them since I was 10 over 40 years ago.
...................I bet you dont no crap about my great great great aunt annie!Well first im an oakley and 2nd shes my great great great aunt.......So theres your proof!
huh? thats not proof...ok well, ill believe u, but let me tell u something....that the sentences u just posted, they r not known as proof, and btw, she cant be ur great great great aunt! this happened ALOT of years back, like in 1820's something, i mean, she must b ur relative but not just three great aunts! i think maybe at least 8!
@Kari166 Annie had serveral siblings, most married and had childern, so it s POSSABLE both are telling the truth. We tend to forget that while a person may become famious they still are human and have family...siblings, nieces, nephews, wtc. I cant say if they ARE being honest only that it is POSSABLE.
u-i mean- you, know what? this is YouTube, and in Youtube, Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, Facebook, Orkut, Twitter etc. only a geek is the one not knowing that the 'cool' ppl use U for You and BRB for be right back! looks like u r new to internet, hmm, better look before u leap!
This is too neat. Thanks a bunch for getting this video on here. I just got finished with the show Annie Get Your Gun (which is all about Annie Oakley for those of you that don't know) and I've been doing some research on her. She seems like an amazing person and I give her mad props for being of woman and accomplishing what she did. Thanks again for the video!!
did you know, Annie Oakley (Phoebe Ann Moses) once shote a dime imbetween her husband (Frank Butler) fingers. :O I just finished the book. I know everything about her now. :D
If you challenged her to shoot off she would kick ur butt!you wouldnt amagine what she could do!her husbend used to not know her but than she challenged him and he was a reeeally good shooter and than she beat the pants off him and they became married :)
The targets are close because this was a very early movie when film was experimental -- they could not move the camera and could not zoom, and if they were much farther then you would not be able to see them very well. But yeah, it's kind of disappointing that the only movie we have of her doesn't show her doing her more impressive feats.
Am I the only one who cannot see all the thrown discs getting shot? I think she missed at least two, or Mr. Newton's law of conservation of momentum did not hold when the 'kinetograph' was being filmed. I am not disputing her greatness here, just enquiring if she does actually miss a few there.
It's not fake. I've seen this on a documentary more than once. I think it was one of Edison's first films. Annie was a crack shot who easily lived up to her legendary status....a pretty woman too.
