We stayed at the Cobo Bay Hotel for four wonderful hot summer days and nights at the beginning of July. That week the high tide just touched the sea wall. Sitting eating dinner in the outdoor restaurant might have been a very different experience!
At the Smith's home, 7:00 am: "I'll be back in about an hour with breakfast!" "okay, be careful" "I will" Walking to the cafe, 7:15 am Thinking: "Hmm, the wave are a little restless today" At the cafe, 7:30 am "two large vanilla lattes and two medium pancakes, please" Walking home: (little kid in stroller) "hey, mommy, look at that big wave thats about to hit that guy there!!!" Mom: "ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!" Guy: "huh? OH SH*T!!!!" Never to be heard from again
I once got caught under one of those waves! Thought it was fun until I realised how many rocks the waves bring up with them. Lucky escape for me that day!

Tqs for this video. it's a wonderful experienced to watch this kind of happening. Hopefully these is no casulties. Thanks to the truck for easing the traffic... Personally I always dreamed to have and live in a house at the coastal line, coz I love the sea very much. Just don't blamed mother nature... it can happen anywhere. Great video.. appreciated your work. Tq.
just for the reference, 1 cubic meter of water weighs a ton. I've seen our bosun thrown 10 meters down the deck just from the bow splashes... Im quite sure you'd be quite damaged after encountering such waves, simply cause it's likely you'll be thrown into the buildings.
yeah i hear ya, but its not like the waves are breaking right into the road. its just splashes. trust me i've been splashed by stuff like this plenty of times on the Oregon Coast haha =P
The road should have been closed during such heavy sea conditions and after the passage of such storm, which has created such waves...the road is unpractical during these times of bad weather conditions!!
guernsey at its most vulnerable. as well as having incredibly nice weather in the summer its incredibly prone to bad weather in the winter. this is what i miss most about the place.
@3pmccormack You are the idiot! you silly, silly cunt, "What idiot builds an ocean so close to those nice nice homes" It was a joke, A sarcastic comment, the ocean was always there you fuckin dumb cunt, you are either fuckin retarded, or you have no comprehension of dry humour, please dont breed.
@jewlzben "What idiot builds an ocean so close to those nice nice homes" wow what an amazing joke, you are the king of comedy! yeah most people know the ocean was always there bar you, you stupid fucking moron!!!!!! now i really hope you reply back to me with another stupid comment i look forward to reading it, until then i have work to do....(im guessing you dont work, prob sitting there in ure underwear wanking off on chat roulette lol enjoy ureself)
@3pmccormack you actually thought my joke was a statement, thats why your upset champ because you made a fool out of yourself, oh yeah im a concretor in Queensland australia, Im rarely inside, im always out with my wife and kids injoying the coast, but im boring you, and you do have work to do, if your so busy, leave me alone and focus on your work. Nice to hear from you again.
@jewlzben LOL!!! very nice to hear back from you as well, and ye ure totally right you got me i fell like such an idiot...what ever will i do now that the guy who jerks of on chatroulette thinks he made me feel like an idiot ;)
love the way that dude in the van pushed the bin away i was waiting for a car to do that instead of driving round it... why didnt they get out of their cars and do it.... not as if they're going to get wet or anything
What a great piece of footage. I grew up in Guernsey and miss the wild days along the cliffs and west coast. The seaweed being thrown onto the coast road made it worse than driving on ice! Hard to imagine building walls that can beat the sea, and let us have a view still from the houses! I used to love sitting in the Rockmount pub (1 min 54 secs) and watching the sea come over the wall. Bit of a so and so for Rockmount owner David Nussbaumer and all along that piece of road though. Rory Kay
i believe that some of the windows at the rockmount got broke during this storm, part of the sea wall had to be repaired. but out along rocqaine/l`ree before the cup and saucer a massive 25 metres of sea wall collapsed they are still in the process of fixin it. stores downtown were under 5-6 inches of water that day as well, the biggest storm gsy had seen in 100 yrs
