  • Or just read the letter on the leather strap on bass side... Easiest way, I believe.

  • @kingofthekongos Yes, if the original left hand strap is on the instrument

  • Thanks for the reply Tom and apologies for jumping to conclusions I recall now that my accordion had the four buttons tops sanded bare to fit in the case. Was wondering if you could direct me to any place in Vancouver that would have parts for my old pokerwork accordion? Particularily the finger board that was wood and has broken between the holds. Thanks Peter.

  • Dear Sir, I was astonished to view your video above as the accordion shown was stolen along with my car from BCIT parking lot in 2007. I have pictures of the accordion above. I installed the D ring to hang my shoulder strap from and I think I still have the missing grill. I also lost a two row accordion made in Bulgaria in the theft. I'm delighted that the box wasn't trashed by the thief and would like to get the story of how you came by the instrument.. Cheers, Peter.

    Hi Peter,

Sorry to hear that you have had instruments stolen. I bought this C 4-stop melodeon well before 2007.

    Regards,

    Tom.

  • Is the C melodian a transposing instrument?

  • @Lisnageeragh

No I do not think so in the same sense that a trumpet is a transposing instrument.. On the C melodeon you would typically play tunes in C, F or G that are usually played in D, G or A on the D melodeon. Most traditional musicians play by ear and so do not play from staff notation. As the most common key for the melodeon for session musicians is D, the C melodeon is restricted to tunes in C, F or G. Hope this helps.
