When I was at ITT I learned that the beggars have turfs in Nashville. If another beggar moves in, the resident beggars run them off, beat them up, or worse. Anyhow, some of these guys made $40k year easily! Made all of us in class wonder wtf we weren't out there doing it ourselves. Of course, takes a brave person to beg for money while dodging half full cokes and 100mph change coming at them all the time. :) Oh, and slingshot pellets, don't forget those.

Let me guess, the person that told you beggars make that much money and run each other of of their turf was an 18 year old kid who never begged? God, watch a beggar for a few minutes and watch how much money he makes. They make enough money to buy booze and maybe a taco bell burrito in about 8 hours. How do I know? I used to beg when I was a kid. I never saw anyone average more than a couple dollars an hour.

I just came across this and what a kick! I'm actually one of the beggers that they have a shot of out on the street! This had to have been 35 years ago! I was a young actress and Alan Abel needed some helpl with his hoaxes. He was a lovely, sweet person and it was great working for him - although definitely a little crazy.
