I love Brock Olivo, but my feeling was always that, if they were going to retire one number from that group of players, it should've been Corby Jones.
I remember watching Corby Jones & Devon West play on t.v. back in the day. Mizzou was pretty good during the late 90's with the both of them in the backfield. Corby was a good passer & option qb. West posessed power & speed.
I liked this dude. I remember he was fast, didn't make many mistakes, smart player with a lot of heart. They shouldve beaten Neb. in 1997. Also in '98 at Lincoln, but Larry Smith got to conservative. Jones played in the Arena football league and CFL. He is now a commentator on Fox Sports Big 12 show he is doing a very good job.
Corby Jones was one of the best athletes that Larry Smith recruited to Mizzou.
It's too bad it didn't work out for Larry Smith at Mizzou. Larry Smith failed to beat Nebraska, although he came very close in '97. His failure to beat Nebraska was one of the reasons he lost his job at Mizzou.
Michigan fans are still upset about how the '97 Mizzou-Nebraska game ended.
Corby, you were one of the best college QB's I have ever seen. You gave every ounce you had on every play. I was born and raised in Lincoln, NE and I am a dihard Husker fan. I was lucky to see you play in person, both in Lincoln and Columbia. There are very few players that play as hard and passionate as you. I still bring your name up when my friends and I talk about our favorite college players. Thanks for the memories.
