  • i love this! :) he is so.. cute.. :) I really have always liked his eyes for some reason... and his hands... and face... and guitar... haha

  • 3:59 Didn't he wear that necklace on "The Who Sell Out" album cover?

  • love, love love it. He's so innovative. pushing rythmn and blues to the mainstream - they eventually got it. Pete is awesome all the time.

  • Happy Birthday Townshend! 5/19/09

Rock music wouldn't have been the same without your brain.

  • I like this interview. Intresting what he says about the beatles, yardbirds and the rolling stones.

I cant work out if they were contemporarys or quite different scenes.

  • "I can't work out if they were contemporarys or quite different scenes."

Both! That was the beauty of it--the bands liked each other and were hard-assed competetive with each other too. Not like today.

  • Just all of him is amazing! I love Pete!

  • Thanks gerritos, the main full show, that you linked on information, is a interesting document of Swinging London!

  • he has really hot hands. and i love his necklace. and his eyes. and his face.lol. there is totally something wrong with me. (=

  • Even in black and white, his eyes are gorgeous.

  • The Who´s tribute to the recently arrested Jagger Richards, Under My thumb, playing in the background.

  • yeah he ovbviously likes them quite a bit. The version sounds really weird though. Less rock i think, but the groovy tune isnt there plus is there tamborines in too?

  • He really looks tired here.

Probably after Monterey and his first trip with acid.

He seems to be very reflective and almost drained from it.

But it goes to show if that he was surrounded by the right interviewer, he always had an incredible insight to his surroundings.

Even at 22 or 23 years old here.

  • Was the cameraman near-sighted or just really liked Townsend's nose? His nose is pretty awesone.

  • yes, his nose is wonderful isnt it? lol i love pete.. hes so adorable

  • I LOVE YOU PETE TOWNSHEND... I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU...

Because not only are you a mucical genius and likely the greatest songwriter of all time, but you are a smart fellow, and I think you're absolutly 100% snazzy, and you're extrordinarily handsome, and I LOVE YOU! I was born 49 years too late :(

  • ohmygod i know!!!!! BUT i have a totally genius solution that will solve all my problems of being 13...and his being 63...

first, i need a time machine........

then i can go back in time and marry him!! =D

well..maybe not so genius. but it would totally work!!

haha someone else agrees with me about pete townshends amazing perfectness. yay!=D

  • Good plan. I might have to steal it. :)

  • thats fine...you can come! lol

  • HOTTAYYY...he is an amazing musician....and he is cute

  • Yeah, the camera person was sure fascinated with Pete's face. lol

  • Love the close up of his finest asset!

  • hottie

  • dont say that

  • Why not, it's true. ;)

  • "sure hes cute, but thats cuz we know him in a way"

Right, but I think what makes someone "hot" is a combination of looks and personality/charisma. IMO a "cute" with personality is hotter than just a guy with perfect looks but nothing else to make him stand out. I actually prefer unique-looking guys over the usual underwear model types. Anyway...attraction is pretty subjective. I'm just saying don't tell somebody not to express their opinion.

  • *"cute" guy....I meant to say.

  • Pete....smart, funny, adorable...oh my God! He is astounding!

  • That's the who's version of the rolling stones song under my thumb.

  • OMG PETE!

  • I always felt that Townshend was the most intellectually advanced of all the 60's British rockers (including Lennon).

  • Pete was full of intellect, adorable too. Thanks for uploading the clip.

  • you can tell that the camera man wants to rob pete, dudes zooming in on his watch his jacket and his medallion

  • rare shit!

  • This is a great video. I only wish it were in color so I could see his beautiful, piercing blue eyes :)

  • The same here!

  • he was so brilliant already at such a young age. beautiful, beautiful close-ups, btw. A beautiful soul.

  • wow, those close-ups can kill somebody

  • I love Pete he's so interesting and beautiful.

    Thanks for the video

  • Good

  • This one posted!

  • I wonder if this interview occured after Pete's horrific STP trip after Monterey. I think it did come after, because he's talking about wanting to have such a positive influence on society,

  • Could very well be...he seems really reflective here.

I completely forgot about his "trip".

  • This interview seems not to be documented in my "Who" chronicle "Anyhow, Anyway, Anywhere". I know the STP trip occured on June 20, 1967, so this interview probably came after.

  • This interview was broadcasted on Dutch televison on 28 july 1967 so, very well possible. See updated details

  • My replies are not posting.

  • Now they fucking do!!!

Anyway, this interview seems not to be documented in my "Who" chronicle "Anyhow, Anyway, Anywhere". I know the STP trip occured on June 20, 1967, so this interview probably came after the "bad" trip. Thanks for the video, and thanks for posting the added information!

  • "Anyhow, Anyway, Anywhere is pretty damn comprehensive. I refer to it almost daily. Do you have that Who bank heist French t.v. appearence from 1966 in there? I am going to check anyway. Great book by the way!

  • I don't think I have it in my favourites, though

it should be here on youtube.

Click on my account, and try looking through my subscriptions like "ultracoolsixties" and "beyondthebeat" and you'll probably find it.

  • I love how back in those days how most interviewers seemed to catch Pete when he was very tired or just simply not in the mood to discuss anything.

Yet if he liked you..he would open up and provided the most brillant insights and thoughts to what was surrounding him.

    Very inspiring to listen to.

  • Very insightful man indeed!
